Walkable area

Guests say this area is easy to get around.
We built the Tiny Guest House for friends and family and love sharing the space with people traveling to Bellingham. The tiny house is within walking distance of both WWU (1.0 mile) and downtown (0.8 miles). The Guest House is quite small (200sf); it has a queen bed in the loft and a full sized futon on the main floor. And while it has NO kitchen, we do offer a microwave, mini fridge, and keurig coffee, tea and cocoa machine.

The space
This small space (200sf) is great for a private stay in Bellingham. We offer a queen bed in the loft and a full sized futon couch/bed on the main floor. Therefore, the space can accommodate four but is not ideal as the space is small. We do offer a fridge on the porch, a coffee machine and a microwave. But there is NO kitchen. Guests should also be aware that the lofted bed has sturdy, ladderesque stairs. However, there is not a lot of head room in the loft and it can be difficult to navigate especially if you are elderly or disabled or exceptionally tall. If you are not comfortable with ladder stairs we can certainly set up the futon or we recommend finding more suitable accommodations.

Guest access
The Guest House is located in our back yard. There is dedicated parking for guests in the back alley. Guests have a private entrance and can self check in at their convenience. Guests have their own small covered porch, bathroom, small living room and queen bed in the loft. There is also a small closet big enough to hang and store a bit of clothes. Privacy is one of our highest priorities. Occasionally, we will cross paths with guests, but not generally.

Other things to note
The neighborhood is on a dead-end street so there is little traffic. However, you should know that I-5 is in close proximity. The space is well insulated but traffic noise from the freeway is always present--especially while sitting on the covered porch. Also, because of our proximity to the University campus, some of the neighbors are students. Generally speaking, they are quiet but from time to time they will host parties that can be noisy. If you're looking for the perfect, idyllic vacation retreat, you may want to look elsewhere as the Studio is minimalistic, urban and not for everyone. But if you're looking for a nice, clean place to sleep in Bellingham at a reasonable price you'll be quite happy here.

Our check-in time is flexible and the Guest House is almost always ready for your arrival by 1:00pm. The only reason we list the check-in time as 3:00 is on the rare occasion that we are on vacation and our co-host is filling in during our absence. Her schedule is a bit less flexible. But don't hesitate to request a specific check-in or checkout time. We may not be able to accommodate, but we're more than happy to try. :-)

Also, during the summer months, we install a window air conditioner that is not appropriate during cold months. We list it as an amenity but it’s not possible to list it for only summer months. If you really want the air conditioner during non summer months, you will need to request this before your arrival. :-)

And if you haven't already surmised, the ladder stairs to the loft are relatively steep and narrow and can be difficult to navigate especially if you are tall or have mobility issues. We are happy to set up the sofa bed if you are uncomfortable with loft accessibility.

Neighborhood highlights

The best part of the neighborhood (York) is that it is in close proximity to everything. We are within walking distance to downtown Bellingham and Western campus (both are within a mile). There are also a couple neighborhood diners/pubs that are great places to unwind while enjoying Bellingham. Bellingham has also become a destination for craft beer with about 15 breweries and several tap houses--many are located less than a mile from the Guest House. You should also note that the neighborhood is well represented by University students who occasionally exhibit normal University student energy.

We moved to Bellingham, WA from Iowa in 2007 so we could be closer to the Cascade mountains. As school teachers, we spent our summers backpacking on the PCT and fell in love with the Pacific Northwest and Bellingham.
