About this listing
Delightfully romantic and quirky artist space based in an elevated position in central Glasgow, overlooking the Kelvingrove Park. This is the perfect self contained ground floor apartment from which to base yourself whether visiting Glasgow for work or on a city break. Walking distance from the Hydro, Kelvingrove galleries, the SECC and the University of Glasgow.
Straddled between the City and the leafy west end, in the elegant Park Circus district of the city, the apartment was architect designed for compact and comfortable city living yet is spacious and airy and plenty of room for two.
The apartment has a large living space, sofa and open plan kitchen, dining table and chairs. The huge bay windows with working shutters look onto the park area and views of the south of the city across the Clyde. Upstairs in the mezzanine there is a double bed with goose down bedding and this room overlooks the free standing bath with shower over; perfect for the voyeur....There is a separate toilet which is entirely private!. The apartment is heated entirely by a wood burning stove and there is NO CENTRAL HEATING.
The apartment is fully furnished with washing machine, TV, DVD & WIFI. linen and towels provided. The Kitchen is well equipped.
This is a truly unique space and is ideally suited to singles or couples with an adventurous and romantic spirit...and is ideal for runners with the park directly outside the front door. The apartment is unsuitable for small children.
I am happy for guests to read books, watch DVDs and help themselves to the dry store. Guests should make themselves at home.
Interaction with Guests
I try wherever possible to meet and greet my guests. I live in the same building but I leave folk to themselves unless they need any provisions or advise.
This is the best place to live in Glasgow. Fact. We are suspended high above the city in what used to be the grand houses of city merchants. These have now in the most been developed into apartments. The flat looks south over the Clyde and Kelvingrove Park, the galleries and Glasgow Uni are right on the doorstep. Town centre is completely walkable too and on the weekends its remarkably quiet here for such a central location and mostly you will hear joggers pass under the window.
On foot for sure but there is a subway and bus routes close by.
Other Things to Note
There is a narrow staircase to the mezzanine bedroom and there is no handrail.
This is a fairly relaxed space with wooden floors and very high ceilings. Its not luxury living and can be chilly if the fire is not lit.
It is my home however and I would ask folk to respect this and treat it well. I would ask folk not to smoke, even out of the window or up the chimney! No shoes on stairs and in the bedroom. Please no parties.
A great experience all around. Pip was a wonderful hostess across the board. I was traveling for work primarily and the flat was a great space for that purpose. Location is great - about 1 mile from the SECC (Glasgow conference center) and a little more than that to the city centre. Great evening walks as well - Kelvingrove Park as literally outside of the doorstep. The flat is fully equipped with everyone one would need for a stay.
Thanks very much, Pip.
The One-Roomed House is absolutely lovely! The flat is part of a beautiful old mansion: the architecture is stunning and the flat is really well decorated, not to mention perfectly located along the park on the west side. Pip even brought me freshly basked bread and strawberries! I had a wonderful time - the only thing that might be an issue is the height of the mezzanine: I'm 5'6" and had a few inches to spare, but anyone much taller will have to duck down.
Excellent place, exactly as advertised! Comfortable, convenient, decorated nicely and with care. On top of a beautiful park. Pip was great, and made us feel immediately at home, including by having excellent basic provisions there on arrival.
We absolutely loved the one-roomed house and would have tried to move in if we could have! Pip was wonderful and made us feel so welcome!
Pip placed fresh flowers on the counter and wrote a welcome note on a wallboard. She briskly explained the keys, lights, shower/tub and windows.
All is clearly laid out anyway in a helpful brochure she has compiled. WiFi mostly reliable.
Pip is available nearby if questions.
Bottled water and milk in the fridge; also all breakfast supplies, and nice choices, at that: muesli, oatcakes, etc., coffees, teas.
Many excellent guides, histories and photographic books of this fascinating city are around the flat to suggest destinations and expand on what you have seen.
Pip has a great flat in a wonderful neighbourhood. All communication with her was easy with fast replies. The apartment has many wonderful details, especially the ceiling details, it is a real living and lived-space as an alternative to a impersonal hotel room. Only small downside is what you need to accept when living in an old house: You hear your neighbours activities a bit and do not have central heating.
My parents came to visit for a weekend and stayed at Pip's flat. It's a beautifully decorated and comfortable place, right in the Park Circus area and Kelvingrove Park, close to the City Centre and West End, very convenient! The flat was clean and warm and Pip was waiting for us with a warm welcome, croissants, coffee etc! Great communication throughout, highly recommended!
