I own a mobile home in the best mobile home community in the county, called CREEKSIDE. I live right in front of the Park where the creek runs. No homes across the street, just the Park where you can hear owls at night and frogs during the day and evening. The park has an outdoor swimming pool and indoor jacuzzi. Trader Joes is across the street, so is Starbucks. A local cafe is down the street about a half mile, with a restaurant next door...
Bike Friendly city. Weather is super/paradise (cool in the evenings), 15min from the ocean at Avila or 20min to Shell Beach/Pismo.
Downtown with shops and cool cafes, music clubs, theatre and restaraunts is about 2 miles away. I recommend the local food Big Sky restaurant, the Palm theatre, Kreuzeberg or Linnaeas Cafe, Bliss Cafe with their beautiful outdoor patio facing the creek. Another fine cafe in the funky cool area near the Amtrak station is Sally Loo's: (website hidden)
Avila Hotsprings is 10 minutes away where they have a large pool, hot sulfur baths, and a restaurant: (website hidden)
Sycamore Resort is more pricey yet more elegant with private hot tubs and add about another 7 minutes away: (website hidden)
My stay was pleasant and comfortable. Bob introduced me to many excellent documentaries and I was also invited to join a group discussion at his place which was learning and interesting. Thank you Bob.
Bob's place was a bad fit for me - literally. The futon bed is actually one of those futon couches, folded down, so at 5' 10", I had to sleep at an angle to fit between the headboard and footboard which are actually the arm rests. Being a couch, it's a thinner mattress, plus it's an elderly futon which means it's become compressed and very, very hard. For a person who sleeps on their back and prefers a board-hard mattress it's perfect. I sleep on my side and there was no place for my hip to go, which torqued my back. It was a painful addition to my long drive home. In addition, the shower spray hit me at neck height, so I had to do the limbo to rinse my hair. Bob seems like a nice enough guy, and his home is very tidy, albeit not super clean. San Luis Obispo is an affluent community, so this location is relatively less expensive and it's well-located for freeway access; however, this comes at the price of all-night freeway noise. I imagine the nearby swimming pool and green area with creek would be compensating factors if those were things I'd wanted to do.
I like Bob. Nice guy. Very friendly, hospitable n accommodating. The room was cozy, bed was comfortable, private bathroom was clean. Just what I needed for my travels. Will definitely be back. Thanks Bob! :)
The room is large, tidy, has a private bathroom and makes you feel welcome... and so does host Bob with lovely notes, fresh organic produce and chats about a wide range of subjects. A great place to stay if you want to explore the area or are just looking for a stay over!
Just what he advertises. Very friendly guy and a lot of great books to look at that Bob has read. Nice location right across from a creek and lots of birds.
I would stay there again: comfortable.
This was a very quick visit for me-- just sleeping at Bob's, so I didn't get much of a chance to talk. But everything was exactly as advertised. Clean quiet room and easy to get to.
Large shared space and large bedroom. Bob is very friendly and I loved that he is earth conscious too. Interesting conversations! House is in great location and can't beat SLO.
Had a great time at Bob's place.
Bobs house is in a great, safe location and the room was big, warm and clean.
Bob was an excellent host and is a genuinely nice person. We had a great conversation and bob recommended some great things to do in the area.
I would not hesitate to recommend this place to others.
I enjoyed my stay at Bob's place. Everything I needed was provided. I even had the pleasure to go to the movies with him, which was awesome! He's a really friendly guy and gave me tips on where to go. I'd come back again.
My stay took an unexpected turn as the kitchen pipe bursted the day before. There was a hole in the kitchen floor due to repair work but other than that everything was fine. Bob asked if I wanted to cancel and kindly offered me a discount if I wanted to come anyway. The nuisance was minimal and everything else was as advertised. Even if the repair work is till going on don't let it hold you back from staying at Bob's! Location is great not too far from downtown SLO.
