The Neighborhood

We're situated at the start of the Sheep's Head; it is an ideal place to sample the sheep's head walking routes. Walking along the ridge is amazing with fantastic views: this starts on the hill behind the house - Bantry bay, Beara, and the Kerry mountains to the north; Dunmanus bay and mount Gabriel to the south.

I am located 5 minutes walk from the famous Durrus cheese producers - visits can be organised here. In the village of Durrus there are 4 pubs, a small supermarket, a bistro/restaurant, a hardware store, 'good things' cafe, an brilliant charity shop, two churches.... there are small beaches nearby and an extensive sandy beach at Barley cove on the mizen head. Sheep's head lighthouse and Mizen head lighthouse (mizen vision) make popular destinations. Boats from Schull and Baltimore go out to Cape Clear and islands.

Bantry (email hidden) with a market on fridays, everything from livestock to antiques to artisan food. There is a cinema and many shops, cafes, restaurants etc. Buses come frequently from Cork. There are 2 hotels and you'll find music either there or in the pubs. Ballydehob (email hidden)ly traditional session every friday night. Bike hire is on offer from Bantry if you like cycling.

Other Things to Note

I have chickens who free range about the garden, nice fresh eggs for breakfast!

  • Fizz was lovely. She welcomed us into her home with a warm cup of tea and friendly conversation. If you are looking to see a beautiful part of Ireland that is possibly lesser known then the big tourist destinations then definitely consider this property. It was so peaceful here, the local restaurant was fabulous, great food and friendly service. It was indeed a beautiful part of the world with beautiful coastal scenery. Fizz has an amazing organic garden and free range chickens, we were lucky enough to sample some eggs with home made bread for breakfast :)

  • If you're looking for a peaceful and quiet place to stay, you have found it. And you just have to walk a little bit to have an amazing view from the top of the mountain.
Fizz is a very nice host, she will make you fresh eggs (directly from the chicken) in the morning with a good breakfast.

  • Fizz's place was our favorite on this trip! Tucked away in the deep bush of western Ireland.… it does not get much better than this. She has amazing gardens, a grand hostess, serves a lovely feast…and lives at the edge of the Summerland. Pure magic and a big heart. Three cheers for Fizz!

  • Tranquillo is truly and tranquil place to stay for excursions into the Sheep's Head, Mizzen, and even the Beara pensulas. It is (email hidden) setting nearly at the top of the Sheep's head ridge with a comfortable room and bed. Fizz is an amiable host that is very knowledgeable about the area. She even took time to show this city boy (very loosely defined) a bit of the country life. The breakfast was ample with fresh eggs from the resident chickens. I wish I had planned to spend a few extra days in the area both the sights and the hospitality provided.

About
i am warm, friendly and have a wonderful home. i enjoy the countryside and nature. interested in living harmoniously and taking time to listen. enjoy things new and different - like travel and gardening. imagination caught by the cathars and i have visited the languedoc area in france. i love some magic and mystery in my life. i try to eat healthily with many home grown vegetables/fruit and organic meat. i keep my own chickens who free range in the garden. enjoy baking bread but presently reducing grain consumption. i value compassion understanding and kindness; simple things but so important -many people seem to have forgotten. a sense of community here helps to nurture me.
