Excellent cottage in the heart of Cville! Walk downtown or to UVA from this creatively designed oasis!
*All interior photos new as of March 2014* Bedroom/top floor of cottage: light filled, open vaulted ceiling with exposed beams.
Lovely cottage in the center of town! Bamboo floors, multiple decks, vaulted ceiling. 2 stories: loft-style. Enjoy the privacy of your own space in the exact center of Charlottesville: WALK to both UVA and the Downtown mall. Only one block to the train station, 2 blocks to the vibrant shops and restaurants of West Main Street...a few more blocks to the downtown mall! Though in the center, guests always remark about how quiet it is in the space/cottage: Large yard with privacy fence. Kitchen provides the option of in-home dining, and your privacy far exceeds that of any local hotel! Acorn cottage is the perfect place to make your "home away from home".
NOTE A: 2 day reservation requirement applies (unless only 1 day is available on the calendar, making one night possible).
NOTE B: Check in is 3pm or after and check out is 11am or before.
NOTE C: No pets/no exceptions (love them too, but too many guests have allergies to allow animals in the space).
NOTE D: IF you have any special requests/needs/expectations: please let us know PRIOR to booking
Thank you for considering Acorn Cottage! We look forward to your visit.
Full private access to the cottage and all features.
Interaction with Guests
Depends on needs: can be available for local suggestions; completely separate residence for the guests, so if little to no interaction (after check-in) is the interest of the guest, that is completely doable!
This is the best neighborhood in town for central location! Great neighbors, close to everything, and full of early 1900's architectural charm/varied architecture.
LESS THAN 1 BLOCK to the Amtrak; walk to the downtown area and UVA hospital/main campus. No need for a car if you take the train to Cville.
Other Things to Note
Private parking in the driveway available (just notify one day before arrival that you would like off-street parking). On-street parking not a problem/readily available as well.
*No Smoking!* Even on decks...it manages to make its way inside...thanks for your honesty and care in this.
No other guests than those approved in the booking (ie: no private parties or events approved).
I can well imagine to stay in the cottage again, should I come to Charlottesville again.
The cottage is awesome. Carla has decorated beautifully, and it is a great weekend getaway spot from DC. Carla was very flexible about our arrival time, and really friendly and helpful when we arrived. Then she left as alone the rest of our stay, which was perfect!
It is truly in the middle of Charlottesville, as described, so you can walk everywhere. Also, the best shower I've had in a long time! Would definitely stay again.
We were thoroughly enchanted with the Acorn cottage. It is as charming and comfortable as it looks in the photos but even more so when are there. The cottage is so nicely appointed w some really nice amenities like the cozy fireplace and the soaking tub. The decor is lovely and when you take in the views of a big bamboo grove with birds flitting through greenery you almost imagine you are in an exotic place. There were interesting books sitting next to an eclectic array of prints and decor. We liked the idea of a small space so well set up that we are thinking the design and layout would be a perfect guest house size to build near a main house sometime.
Carla was delightful and accompanied by her adorable little son John Carlo who came to greet us beaming in his little bow tie. The only downside was being so busy we didn't get much chance to chat but Carla was always in easy reach via cell phone.
We were there in the winter for an NCAA game at the UVA arena on the occasion of the largest snowfall of the year. Carla was very kind and offered to give us extra time in the cottage if we needed to wait for better road conditions on our checkout day. We so thoroughly loved our weekend that we are going to plan a spring weekend at the Acorn in a few weeks.
You won't go wrong in staying here for so many reasons. The location so close to West Main and all the shopping and restaurants is great, not to mention convenient to the free trolley. Truly wonderful! Thank you so much Carla!
We had a wonderful visit! Carla wrote very helpful emails prior to our arrival and was totally available for anything that we needed during our stay. The place was perfect for what we wanted - which was a restful weekend away from the hustle and bustle of Washington, DC. I would definitely go back!
We had a great stay at Carla's cottage in Charlottesville. The cottage is very private, spacious and comfortable. Both my wife and I remarked how much happier we were there than at a hotel.
Carla was very gracious and provided thoughtful details like coffee, creamer and shampoo. We would definitely consider a stay here again. Don't be put off by the neighborhood! The location is super convenient to downtown Charlottesville and delicious restaurants. Thanks for a great weekend Carla!
Carla met us at a time convenient for us, showed us how the cottage worked, and made us feel completely at home. The cottage is attractive, spacious, and very clean. The kitchen is in great working order and Carla stocked the coffeemaker with medium as well as dark roast coffee. The neighborhood is fun to walk round in, with a fascinating melange of architecture, and it's just a few minute walk from downtown.
I went on a little post-Chrhistmas retreat to Charlottesville and couldn't have been happier with the experience at the Acorn Cottage. I came via Amtrak and the house is less than a 10 minute walk from the station. It's as fresh, bright, and cozy as it looks in the photos. Among my favorite things were the outrageously comfortable bed, the Keurig coffeemaker (plus creamer and sugar!), and the gas fireplace. I was there during some chilly, drizzly weather and the fireplace warmed up the whole place beautifully. Acorn Cottage is walking distance to several good restaurants and a very easy walk to the downtown pedestrian mall, which has some shopping and more restaurants, yet it's incredibly quiet and almost feels like a little cabin in the woods at night. For me, it was the perfect retreat for reading, writing, and relaxing. Carla couldn't have been sweeter or more accommodating. She provided a great array of little brochures, magazine, and info about the town. I look forward to coming back with my husband soon to do more exploring.
Homeowner in Charlottesville for over 20 years, I love this city and can offer guests suggestions as to hiking, dining, night spots, cultural events, etc. Love hosting guests in the cottage, and learning about what brings people to our little city!
