Excellent cottage in the heart of Cville! Walk downtown or to UVA in this creatively designed oasis!

The Space

Lovely cottage in the center of town! New construction: bamboo floors, multiple decks, vaulted ceiling. 2 stories: loft-style. Enjoy the privacy of your own space in the exact center of Charlottesville: WALK to both UVA and the Downtown mall (if you are travelling by train, you will need no other transport: the cottage is 1 block from the train station). Large yard with privacy fence. Kitchen provides the option of in-home dining, and your privacy far exceeds that of any local hotel! Walk to the shops and restaurants of West Main Street, as well as a few blocks to the downtown mall. If you have an extended stay at UVA or with the UVA hospital, this private cottage is the perfect place to make your "home away from home".
NOTE: 2 day reservation requirement applies to all weekends EXCEPT UVA GRADUATION: You must reserve Fri, Sat, and Sunday that weekend (this year: May 16, 17, and 18, 2014) for your reservation to be accepted that weekend.
NOTE 2: Please make booking requests for the accurate # of guests. If you book under your name but are coming with another, please put "2" in the booking request.
NOTE 3: Booking for 1 night rather than 2 on the weekend may be possible depending on the weekend/availability

Thank you for considering!

Guest Access

Full private access to the cottage and all features.

Interaction with Guests

Depends on needs: can be available for local suggestions; completely separate residence for the guests, so if little to no interaction (after check-in) is the interest of the guest, that is completely doable!

The Neighborhood

This is the best neighborhood in town for central location! Great neighbors, close to everything, and full of early 1900's architectural charm/varied architecture.

Getting around

LESS THAN 1 BLOCK to the Amtrak; walk to the downtown area and UVA hospital/main campus. No need for a car if you take the train to Cville.

Other Things to Note

Private parking in the driveway available (just notify one day before arrival that you would like off-street parking). On-street parking not a problem/readily available as well.

  • We recently spent two nights at the Acorn Cottage for a wedding weekend and enjoyed our time there. The cottage is bright and airy and Carla was a very accommodating host. We originally thought we might bring our ten-month old son with us and she offered to provide a pack and play. We decided to leave him with our inlaws but it was nice of her to offer. There was no hairdryer in the cottage and when I texted Carla about it she made sure to bring one over ASAP. Carla was also flexible with the check-out time which we appreciated. The cottage is in a great location, easy walking distance to all the cute shops and restaurants Charlottesville has to offer.

  • Had a great stay at Carla's place. Perfect size for a couple. Everything was clean and comfortable with plenty of space. The house is in a great location for walking to the University, the Corner, Main Street and the Downtown Mall. Will definitely try to stay at this place again!

  • Carla was a great hostess and the photos represented the cottage well. We received a tour of the cottage upon our arrival and received instructions on how everything operated. The cottage is private and quiet, just what we were looking for. Even through the location is in the heart of Charlottesville and about 2 blocks from Main St and the train station, we never once heard a train while in the cottage. The accommodations were nice with plenty of comfortable seating, something I look for when away from home. I don't understand how people can relax while sitting in a chair their grandmother would have purchased and Carla had several comfortable chairs both upstairs and down. There is a small screen LCD TV downstairs with limited cable service. Major networks, PBS and a few other channels if you need to keep up with the world. Speaking of comfort, I have to say the bed and pillows were comfortable and the bed covers were suitable for the time of year. We slept very comfortably, in fact we probably slept an hour or more past sunrise as the sun comes streaming in the many windows bright and early. Didn't need the heat in May but the AC worked well after it was turned on and running a short while. Ceiling fan over the bed worked fine. Internet access was great. I do not consider staying any place including hotels without free Wi-Fi. Lots of lights on dimmers for custom evening lighting and in the morning a Keurig coffee maker with non-dairy creamers and fresh, REAL SUGAR! That earns an extra star. After your morning coffee head for the Albemarle Baking Company about 4 short blocks from the cottage. This is a treasure we discovered on our first B&B trip over a decade ago. A great local bakery you must check out. Just head south east (right) on Main St. and look for the in the Main Street Market building on your right. Indoor and outdoor seating is available. Plenty of free parking is available but go ahead and walk so you will not feel guilty of sampling at least a couple of pastries and more coffee while you are there. The granola is something special as well. The location of the cottage is within walking distance midway between the grounds of UVA and the downtown mall. Both locations have multiple things to do and see and plenty of places to eat. From the cottage you can walk to a great Italian restaurant in about 5 minutes or less. Bella's serves traditional Italian family meals on white table cloths. How convenient! Judging from the number of people dining I would suggest making reservations in advance. The large fridge back at the cottage came in handy for the leftovers. Initial airbnb map shows cottage about a ½ mile to the north of where it is actually located. A second map shown after booking shows the correct location about 1-2 blocks south of the train...

  • Carla's place was great! Exactly perfect for my needs and way beyond. Everything was clean, the decor was fun and vibrant. She was the perfect host and met me (even though I was later than I thought I would be) and explained everything. It's close to everything and I'd definitely come back again!

  • We spent great days in Carla’s cottage! The rooms were very cosy and comfortable, also the nice veranda.
We were surprised of the absolutely quiet atmosphere, although the station is so near – watching and listening to the birds was great!
We didn´t need the car very often, because the downtown mall is just a short walk away. Carla was nice and very welcoming and we would like to stay again in this wonderful place.

  • I stayed here for a week while I was in Charlottesville, and I loved it. The place is very cute and super spacious; it was like a one-person mansion. It has two nice decks to have your morning coffee, huge upper level bedroom, similarly huge living area/kitchen, and a really nice bathroom. It's in a quiet neighborhood and private location, in spite of being about 10 minutes walk from either UVA's campus or the downtown mall. It's very near the train station too. Great spot!
