Our Hydeaway Bay Beach Hut is located on the absolute beach front at Hydeaway Bay at the Whitsundays.
The hut is bright, clean, open plan and sleeps a maximum of three adults and two children. (Queen bed, single bed & set of children's camp stretcher bunk beds). It has a lovely relaxed feel and is a great place to unwind, play old fashioned board games, bbq and enjoy the beautiful beach surroundings. We rely on rain water so it is really important to use water carefully.
Just off the foreshore is coral reef, on a very low tide you can walk quite a distance out and see colourful corals, sea cucumbers, clams and other creatures. There are lots of sea turtles in the area, and you can see whales in winter. People enjoy fishing off the beach. There are kangaroos in the area, so you need to be especially careful driving at dawn and dusk. There are also lots of birds - look for the bush turkey nest right next to the escarpment, there's also kookaburras, owls, cockatoos, parrots, sea eagles just to name a few. You might see Dingos too. The water is often glassy flat and crystal clear - perfect for snorkelling or going out paddling in our Canadian canoe. (You can swim all winter, in summer in North Queensland, there are stingers (jellyfish) so it is safer to wear stinger suits (or pantyhose works fine) when swimming or swim in the enclosure at Dingo Beach.
Hydeaway Bay is a beach community made up of retirees and holiday homes. It is about 35 minutes drive north of Airlie Beach, and 35 minutes east of Proserpine. It is just a few minutes drive from neighbouring Dingo Beach. The Dingo Beach Pub provides meals, petrol, convenience store and bait. There is a boat ramp at Dingo, and you can hire fishing boats from there. There is a caravan park at Hydeaway Bay which sells bread and milk and other small items. There is also community hall where there is a tennis court for hire, and you might catch a zumba class if you’re up early. There are two resorts within a few minutes drive, Cape Gloucester Eco Resort & Montes Reef Resort which face Gloucester Island. Both places serve lovely restaurant meals (seafood is a speciality), and there is nothing quite like a cocktail watching the sun go down. The eco-resort has a lovely pool for year round swimming by the outside bar area.
We recommend you buy your supplies (groceries and drinks) in Proserpine or at Cannonvale (Airlie Beach) before you drive out to the hut. In Proserpine the IGA is the newish grocery store, in Cannonvale there is a big Woolworths (inside a shopping centre with other shops/liquor/chemist/butcher and so on) If you are shopping in Proserpine you should take some time out to visit the fun homewares/everything else store called “Colour Me Crazy” – ask anyone in Prossie where it is and they can give you directions – it’s worth the trip. There are a number of restaurants in Airlie Beach, and this is also the departure point for charter boat trips out to the Islands / Reef from.
There is a big mango tree beside the water tank, if you are here in the summer you can pick and enjoy our lovely bowen special mangos!
Please feel free to contact me to tell me about yourself and let me know what you are looking for - maybe you will be perfect for the hut and the hut perfect for you!
Other Things to Note
We are flexible about check in and check out times if there are no other guests coming directly before you or after. Just check with me and we'll see what we can do.
The only house rule is to love this place as if it were your own! Care for it with thoughtfulness; enjoy it and have as happy days as our family does whenever we are here. (Oh, all that and carefully conserve the precious water).
Ryl was a fabulous host providing comprehensive information for our stay. The hut was just as described and in a fabulous location. We really enjoyed our stay, it was an opportunity to get back to good old fashioned family time - kids playing at the beach, card/board games, swimming and exploring the local area. We would highly recommend for weekend away.
Ryl's beach hut is simple but has everything you need for a relaxing time away. We enjoyed some quiet time reading, swimming in the practically private beach & exploring the surroundings.
Communication was very easy and Ryl has a very useful folder full of information on what you can do in the area. There was even a bottle of bubbly waiting for us.
We would love to come back!
The Hydeaway Bay Beach Hut was exactly what our family was looking for and needed. It was clean and located extremely close to the beach. We enjoyed fishing, playing on the beach, reading the recipe books and going to the nearby resorts for 5-star dinners. Ryl was a fantastic host and always responded super promptly. We will return for sure.
Wonderfully friendly-feeling little beach hut. Little notes, supplies and information made it so welcoming! Plenty to do regardless of the weather as it is fully stocked with art and craft supplies, DVDs, board games and so much more! We loved the canoe and spent most of our time snorkelling or enjoying the beach just in front of the cabin.
Met some of the lovely neighbours, and even found the local supermarket to be full of smiling faces!
Would definitely recommend this accommodation and host to others!
Staying at Ryl's Hydeaway Bay beach hut was definitely one of the highlights of our Whitsunday trip. The hut is simple yet comfortable and well equipped. The location, being right next to our 'private' beach, was amazing. There were lots of activities to do both in and out of the hut for adults as well as young children/toddlers.
Ryl was a fantastic host and her communication was excellent. She was thoughtful, generous and made us feel very well looked after, both leading up to and throughout our stay. Her recommendations were spot on, including suggesting that we hire a boat to Saddleback Island for some snorkelling which was spectacular. We enjoyed our stay enormously and would love to visit again!
Ryl's beach hut is a great quiet escape from the tourist towns, especially Airlie Beach. We enjoyed having the beach so close to the hut and it almost seemed like it was our own private one at that, as we rarely saw other people. The hut is simple but has everything you need and is perfect for relaxing and taking things easy. The board games and pack of cards kept us entertained giving it an old school family trip feel. The paint and canvases to explore your artistic side is nice touch and they were used appreciatively and it's good to see that others have done so too. If you're after a laid back holiday then Ryl's hut is spot on! The resorts nearby were good to visit for a swim in the pool and get some nice food but we were pretty happy hanging around reading a book in the sun on the beach! Ryl was super helpful and her communication via emails and text before and during our stay was fantastic. Seeing as we were arriving late at night Ryl had things organised for us there, with the amenities on and an outside light on as well, which was appreciated.
