About This Listing
My pleasant, quiet and spacious fully modernized Victorian villa is located in St Mary's Bay, 5 minutes walk from buzzy Ponsonby Road, the Auckland equivalent of the Marais in Paris or the West Village in New York.
I currently have a comfortable single bedroom available which is sunny and bright. Your bed features a quality inner sprung mattress and I always provide cotton sheets and feather pillows. Fluffy towels are also included.
There is a separate guest bathroom with shower, bath and toilet. Good water pressure too, no trickling water here! There is easy access to WiFi so you can use your laptop or smart phone.
Guests are welcome to make themselves at home in the rest of the house which opens out on to a pleasant courtyard overhung with a shady fig tree. Help yourself to the figs!
Upstairs on the terrace there is a table and chairs for an extra eating option, plus a panoramic view out over the city towards Auckland's Skytower.
Breakfast is also provided in the price.
Ponsonby is that part of town everybody heads to when they come to Auckland, and is full of restaurants, cafes and designer stores.
The area is located close to downtown and is a short and easy walk down Jacob's Ladder. In one direction you will find Westhaven yacht marina, and in the other is the waterfront Viaduct area. The Viaduct Yacht Basin is full of restaurants overlooking the water and was home of the America's Cup events. It is also an easy easy stroll to several of the tree shaded inner city beaches.
I'm a photographer who works from home and as I travel quite frequently I enjoy meeting people from other cities and exchanging info on what's happening where. I can also help with suggestions on what to do and see in Auckland and the rest of the country.
I look forward to welcoming you! :-)
There is the link bus that is 2 minutes walk from my house, from the bus stop it's a 5 minute ride into the city. There is also a convenient taxi rank 2 minutes away. Note that unlike other cities it's not possible here to simply hail a taxi as it passes.
Other Things to Note
A word about transport from Auckland airport to the city. There are three options: by taxi which will cost $75 -$90, (far too expensive in my view), by shuttle bus which you will share with others, but will come direct to my door $33, and airbus which will take you into the city center, $16.
I'm a relaxed sort of a person, I enjoy meeting people and will do what I can to make guests feel at home. On the other hand I'm just as happy to leave people to happily get on with their stay. The only rule, (and I don't like rules myself) as is often the case in New Zealand homes, no smoking. Oh, and no pets :-)
Harvey made me feel very welcome in his beautiful home. It's full of character and light. The room was comfortable and had lists of space. House is just a short walk from some great restaurants and bars in Ponsonby too. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for a quiet place to stay for a few days. Harvey had a bit of building work going on at the start of my stay but was no bother at all and he was very good at checking I was okay.
Booked the room for my mum who just loved her first airbnb experience! She is truly spoiled now - thanks for being such a fantastic host and for making mum feeling welcome! She enjoyed the conversations with you and the creative atmosphere in the house + the figs from your tree;)
I had a fantastic stay here! Harvey is so incredibly welcoming and hospitable! He was flexible with check-in time, made sure I was oriented within the neighborhood, and ensured I had what I needed. Would very much recommend!
I had a wonderful time. Harvey made me feel very welcome and recommended a lot of good restaurants and bars for New years eve. I hope, i will have the opportunity to return!
I stayed a week at Harvey's beautiful house and felt like being at home while on a different planet.. Thank you so much for giving me all those blankets to keep me warm! winter in Auckland can be harsh:) and for the marmalade in the mornings:) the neighborhood is beautiful and quiet - close to the famous Ponsonby and also a short walk to the harbour by the Jacob's ladder. the guest room is large and cozy. and our conversations were an enriching experience. Thank you:)
Harvey waited till I arrive the BnB to pass me the house keys and to brief me about the house and my room. My room was a simple one with its own table and chair if you wish to have breakfast in the privacy of your own room. However, Harveys more than happy to let you have breakfast in the dining area as well. The BnB is located within very short walking distance to Ponsonby road as stated in his description. Taking a bus to the city is very easy as the bus stop is just 5 mins walk away!
Harvey was very welcoming and made me feel so welcome into his home. He insured I had every comfort and helped me out massively with negotiating the city and travel arrangements. I will stay here on my next trip to Auckland and would recommend Harveys hospitality to everyone.
About the Host, Harvey
I work in the art field using photography. My main interest is photographing in cities and making pictures of the unusual and overlooked. Generally every year I go to Paris for Paris Photo, a meeting place for photographers from all over the world. I've also had published a number of photobooks and I give photography workshops both here in Auckland and in Europe. And of course I'm always happy to talk about photography!
