About this listing
Same party guests enjoy a private entrance, 2 private bedrooms with fabulous views of the lake and a private bath. Comfy shared living space is yours alone most of the time! Come enjoy our convenient location near shopping, restaurants & bus lines!
You will be greeted with a peek-a-boo view of the lake. The dog next door may say hello but he will not bark long and is fully contained in his own fenced yard.
Up to six same party adults will love staying in our custom built, fully trimmed and finished lakeside home. Your private queen size bedroom has access to a private bath and shared family living space, which has a very comfortable sectional for sleeping two. Another private bedroom on the same level shares the bath and two comfortable twin size beds.
There is a big screen tv, dvd player, stereo and large drawing table making it fun for our many available jigsaw puzzles and games. We supply bedding and towels for inside use only. We do not offer a lifeguard, but if you would like to swim at your own risk on our private beach please bring your own towels. There is also a large city park that has a beach on our lake within walking distance that offers lifeguards. We also have a raised wood burning fire pit on our beach, which is nice to use in the spring, summer and fall as well, when there is not a fire ban. Please bring your own wood.
We offer a small refrigerator and microwave in the space you can use for heating food. Paper plates, plastic dinnerware and napkins are also available upon request.
One parking space is available for your use.
Our neighbors are quiet, but as we live near the city center we do hear some muffled traffic and airplane noise. Our location is half a mile from transit and freeway access, 10 miles from Tacoma and 20 miles from Seattle. SeaTac Airport is 15-20 minutes away (without traffic.) We are happy to discuss pickup and/or drop off if it works into our schedule and will accept gas money.
We live close to Federal Way city center which has a shopping mall and excellent restaurants including Red Robin, Black Angus, Applebees, Red Lobster, McGrath's Fish House, The Ram, Panera Bread, Chipotle, Dennys, and many other cuisines. Costco is 2 miles away. Seasonally there is a Farmer's Market in the mall parking lot.
We love living here and believe you will enjoy visiting our home and family, too! Sharing our lakeside living space with our fun, considerate teenagers and their friends (if they are around) just may be the best part of your trip!
There is one parking space available for guests in our driveway.
IMPORTANT: Your parking space is the one in front of our home's front door, closest to the Japanese maple.
IMPORTANT: If you leave the property and leave your car here at any time make sure to leave your car keys with us so we can move it if we need to.
Guests have access to a private entrance they can use to come and go as they please. We provide a key and small flashlight for use while here. There are motion sensor lights and solar lights that help light the walkway and entrance to your space.
Guests are welcome to use the yard and beach. Swimming is at your own risk with your own towels.
Interaction with Guests
Our family is friendly and do enjoy visiting with guests when we cross paths. We have some guests who have enjoyed spending time with us and others who we have only seen at the beginning and at the end of their stay!
Our neighborhood is lovely, safe and fairly quiet. Our northern neighbor and friend's dog sometimes likes to bark at passing boaters, but she quiets him down nicely. She keeps her yard playful and is outdoors often so there is quiet chatter and sometimes nice music floating in the air.
We rarely see or hear our southern neighbors, but we do call them friends as well. Their homes and yards are very nice and well manicured.
It is hard to tell we are so close to the bus line, regional transit and city center. One half mile away is what we like to call the $2 Movie Theater. 3-D movies cost more than that but on Tuesdays all movies are discounted. Marlene's is there, too, and is a nice place to find healthy choices for groceries and a deli, although the prices are higher than at traditional grocery stores which are all close by as well. Wal-Mart is close and Super Wal-Mart is two miles away.
The best transportation is for you to rent a car at the airport or use your own car to get around.
Our home is on a bus line and we are about 1/2 mile to the transfer station. Check out King County Metro for information on using the bus system.
Other Things to Note
We have two (2) cats in our home. We ask everyone to keep their luggage behind closed doors to prevent them from messing around with guest's belongings.
There is a small refrigerator and a microwave for your use during your stay.
We turn the driveway lights off after 10pm. If you plan to come in later than that please call or text us at (phone number hidden) or 4734 and we will leave them on for you.
There is no smoking inside or outside our home.
Park in front of the front door of our home. If you leave our home without taking your car, leave your car keys with us so we can move it if we need to. We will not drive your car anywhere.
Keep all of your luggage behind closed closet or bedroom doors.
During fair weather months you have a private entrance to your space and we loan you a key and a small flashlight to use during your stay.
We enjoy visiting with our guests but when our paths do not cross we appreciate your texts (phone number hidden) or the Airbnb message center to let us know anything you need.
In the morning we offer a cup of coffee, tea or water using our filtered water and Keurig machine.
You are welcome to use the fireplace by flipping two switches on the wall to the left of it. Please turn it off when you leave.
If we are not home when you check out, please leave the key on the table at the bottom of the stairs in the shared living space or in the key box and roll the numbers and lock the door handle lock.
Please do not remove the bedding from the beds when checking out. We don't want critters making themselves at home in them, even if they will drown in the laundry.
We had an amazing time while we stayed at the Lakeside home. We used it as a home base while we explored Mt Rainier and the city of Seattle for three days. Our family of five was able to stretch out and relax inside as well as enjoy the lake and beach in the back yard. Laurie's hospitality made us feel very welcome and all of our needs were met.
Laurie and Jim were very accommodating and helped prevent us from potentially getting very sick. My wife and I were scheduled to go clamming around Puget Sound or Hood Canal and our hosts advised us of a red tide and widespread beach closures. Laurie even made a phone call to her mom to see if she could make special arrangements for us. We ended up going north instead and avoided that disaster. Thanks!! We also had a twilight flight that didn't get into SEA airport until past midnight, which meant that we weren't able to reach the home until a ridiculously late hour. Laurie and Jim took it in stride and was able to set up alternative arrangements for us. You have your own private entrance and the entire downstairs living area and bedrooms to yourself. The views of the lake are better than the pictures. My wife and I would revisit again without hesitation. Thank you for a great stay.
Thank you for staying with us Dan! You and your wife were wonderful guests in our home and we welcome you back anytime! I love the private suggestions you provided and, in fact, some of them have already been implemented and discussed! Jim has fixed the house numbers on the fence so it shows on both corners so you can see it while driving either way on the street. We are always looking for ways to improve stays for our guests! Remember to remind me with your return stay code when you make your next reservation to receive your discount on the rate at that time. Thanks again and as always, safe travels to you!
Laurie made us feel very welcome at her home. The home is beautiful!! And the suite downstairs overlooks a lake - quite picturesque! The location is good - close to the I-5 and lots of restaurants in Federal Way. We stayed here for the US Open and it was an ideal location to be able to get down to Tacoma.
Very clean place with comfortable beds and plush couch. We took a few chairs down to the lake shore and enjoyed watching the sunset. Laurie was very friendly and ready to help as needed. Would stay again!
Laurie & Jim were great and made us feel very comfortable staying in their home. The neighborhood was quiet and peaceful and the lake was beautiful.
Jim and Laurie were very, very nice hosts. The gave us a second key when they realized a couple of us showed up and were not able to get in! Great lake view, big TV for watching whatever you want. Laurie brought us a whole plate of wraps, and even though we were only able to eat a few of them due to our busy schedule, it was very much appreciated. We didn't spend much time at the house, as we were there for business, but our stay was enjoyable.
Very nice people, we felt perfectly welcome. The neighborhood was quiet and scenic. The parking was a bit of a problem, as we had two cars; it would have been fine with just one. I also thought that the room with the single bed could have used a reading light, but I just moved one in from the other room. So, we were pleased and we would consider AirbnB again. Thank you.
We are so glad you chose to stay with us Ham! I love your idea about the reading light and will probably leave the one you moved in there. We understand the parking does not fit multiple cars as well as we would like and thank you for using the free park and ride at the transit center not far from our home while you stayed here. It would be fun to hear how your grandson did at his swim meet!
About the Host, Laurie & Jim
I am a Christian wife, mother, grandmother, friend and entrepreneur. My husband Jim and I own steel fabrication and marketing companies. We love to travel but also love being home. I like to use social media to connect with people from around the world. In short, I love getting to know people!
I have volunteered for Smart Love where I spoke to junior and senior high students about their goals and dreams and how to reach them. Now I volunteer as a Communities In Schools Mentor and have been with my student for a year and a half now. I want to leave a legacy for my children, grandchildren and society with some great ideas I have!
Five things I can't live without are:
1. My smart phone. Without it I wouldn't be able to listen to YouVersion at night when I fall asleep.
2. My leggings. I wear them 9-10 months each year to keep warm, even when others are not cold!
3. My Family. I have the best family in the world and feel so blessed to have them all in my life!
4. Popcorn always with butter and salt. Sometimes I add xyletol and other times I put pepper on it. Yum!
5. God. Most of all I cannot live without God in my life. I know some people disagree there is a God, but they have not had the life experiences I have been blessed with to get to know Him personally.
My life motto is "I would rather live as if God were real and die to find out He isn't than to live as if God weren't real and die to find He is."
