About the historic neighborhood of Getsemani:
Getsemani is the most thriving area in Cartagena, the last authentic neighborhood in the old town and yet to be fully gentrified; it is the neighborhood where true “Cartageneros” still live. Getsemani boasts a unique bohemian atmosphere and a neighborhood feel you won’t find elsewhere in the City, mixing history and tradition with with an eclectic offer of trendy bars, restaurants and discos.
Casa Marta is located in front of the historic Iglesia de la Trinidad, the heart of Getsemani where locals and tourists meet and hang out every day.
It was at the Plaza de la Trinidad where Cartagena’s independence from Spain was declared on 11 November 1811; hence the “Getsemanisenses” are fierce people proud of their roots and heroic past. Getsemani is a place full of history and heritage.

Marta was a wonderful host and Casa Marta is a great place to stay. The Getsemaní neighborhood has a number of interesting bars/restaurants and it is only a few blocks from the convention center and the walled city of Cartagena. The small pool in the house was wonderful for cooling off after long walks in the hot and humid climate.
Hello my name is Dana (male and I am 23 year old who only stayed one night with Marta but it was a lovely day/night to say the least. Marta is one of the sweetest ladies you will ever meet in your life and has a funny personality. Upon arrival she roles out the welcome mat and shows you maps on what to do, where to go, and what to see. My Spanish speaking/understanding is basic but she spoke slow, explained as best as she could and used google translate to help you out in whatever way she could. My brother and I stayed just over 24 hours with Marta and was helpful to us the whole time. This includes the last 15 hours or so when me and my brother got a little food poisoning and Marta and her maid did their best to help us out. She gave us medicine and even made soup. Also, other than the maid, she has a very sweet niece named Ana who also is very sweet and attentive to any need when she is there visiting and she speaks English well. This positive review is my way of saying thanks to Marta for the hospitality and the great night provided on my vacation.
I would highly recommend to anyone and would stay again. Great location and wonderful hospitality.
Casa Marta was great! It is a nice little house with just two rooms which makes you feel very comfortable. Our friends were staying next door so we basically had the place to ourselves. The rooms are very well equipped (AC/TV/fridge/closet...) and Marta is very attentive to anything you need. Whether you need directions, help booking a car or are feeling ill from heat exhaustion (my case) she will do her best to help and make you feel better.
The neighborhood, Getsemani, is fun, safe and centrally located, but less touristy than the Centro neighborhood. There is great nightlife at Plaza Trinidad, good local restaurants and it is all a short walk from Centro and the docks.
I will definitely stay at Casa Marta next time I'm in Cartagena.
Absolutely loved our stay at Casa Marta! On top of exceeding all of our expectations, it was a memorable and very unique experience. Marta and her staff were super helpful for anything and everything we needed, very attentive. It felt like staying with family! Breakfasts were delicious, and the room was clean, big in size, perfect place to come home to and relax in. Pool was a definite plus on the hot days! And we fell in love with the neighborhood! We stopped by the plaza Trinidad across the street every day -- it's a fun lively spot on the weekends. I would recommend Casa Marta to anyone who wants an "off the beaten path" accommodation experience.
Gracias por todo dueña Marta!!!
Casa Marta is located in a very interesting part of Caragena. It is a short walk to the clock tower to enter the old city.
Casa Marta is located on the Plaza de Trinidad. The beautiful church is open for services in the evenings. Locals full the pews. . The square in front of the church has an interesting mix of locals and visitors. We heard musicians playing in the square, saw jugglers and tightrope walkers entertaining the crowd and other days just groups of kids kicking a soccer ball in the square. Also lots of people just sitting around . There are several restaurants / bars/ cafes on the square. Some more upscale and some more casual.
Our room revealed the old bricks on one wall and was plastered along the others. A very nice mix of old and new with split (website hidden) new soundproof window to keep out the street noise.
The room was large and very comfortable. The owners were always present and helpful.
Marts speaks limited English but had good wifi and would use Google translate to translate conversations. Her niece was available in the evenings. She spoke very good English.
Over all we had a very nice stray.

About the Host, Marta
I am a retired lawyer and a proud native of Cartagena, the most beautiful city in the world! :-). I love meeting new people and showing them a bit of my culture and my wonderful city. Since I have the free time, I decided to open the house and welcome guests from the world over, share stories and learn from other cultures....traveling without moving!
