About this listing
Divine, magical house so near the city though you wouldn't know as it is so peaceful and almost rural out in the garden! Sweet and full of character, Quirky Way is a true charmer. People always comment on how it's even better than the pics!
I have a gorgeous 'designy' but character-filled 2 bedroom weatherboard cottage in the inner city suburb of Rozelle, right near the city (5 mins by bus). I let the house periodically when I am away myself so it is often available but not always. Please email me with any queries.
The individuality and light in the house is the main thing you will notice. Also that a fertile sub-tropical garden can be seen and enjoyed from every room. The romantic, generously proportioned bedroom just about sits in the garden, which wraps around two sides. It looks out to the very handsome St Josephs church from the window, which glows pink and gold at (URL HIDDEN) unimpeded view from the bed should you be feeling so inclined!
Though the house is absolutely charming in its 'vintagey' way, it does 'keep up with the times' too: lovely modern bathroom, mod cons including air con in the bedrooms, and two flat screen tv's.
The garden can be plundered for herbs and vegies depending on time of year, and there are several wonderful 'outdoor sitting areas' available for your morning or afternoon tea to be taken, outdoor cushions provided.
Considering how close the house is to the hub of the city, it is nice and quiet, with only ambient and the usual neighbourhood sounds to contemplate. All living is done out the back, around my lovely private garden.
The house is filled with my rather eclectic artworks and collections - I love 'vintage' anything so if you're into that you will love 'Quirky Way'. It and its owner have been photographed many times for magazine shoots over the years.. It's a place with the kind of 'take me home' charm that you just might not want to leave behind!
There is a great new organic cotton mattress in the main queen sized bedroom. There is room for a third person to sleep in the second bedroom(doubles as an office when I'm there) , in a sweet old cast iron bed with gorgeous new comfy mattress also! Both rooms look out onto the garden so you never feel 'hemmed in'. There is a good gas hob/cooker in the kitchen and all the pots pans and cooking things you could need, the shower runs on gas hot water that just about never runs out, there is a heavenly full-sized bath in the bathroom and a small gas BBQ outside if you're feeling outdoorsy of an evening.
The neighbourhood is lovely, quiet and close knit...the house is near the end of a sweet cul-de-sac with a generous park at the end of it. Buses galore leave from Victoria rd, a 3 min walk through the park. There are so many great little restaurants and shops in Rozelle that you will want for nothing. The 'Three Weeds' is literally 4 mins walk away- a landmark Sydney pub...these days it is very classy with good food! Also there is a gorgeous walk all the way along Darling st that I highly recommended that takes you to the next 'village' of Balmain. This is a very historic and engaging area of Sydney...and what a way to enjoy it by having a few special nights in a special 'quirky' place:)
Other things to note
Hope you don't mind watering the garden during your stay:)
HELLO! WELCOME! just a few things you might like or need to know:
I really hope you enjoy your stay, Quirky Way certainly is that! I’m not an ‘ironer’
so please excuse unironed things! They are clean however! It is a much-lived in and loved home.
I enjoy sharing it and hope you find it what you expected/to your liking.
There will be a fee of $80 for cleaning. Please leave the place clean and tidy as you found it. No parties, please. Respect the lovely neighbours and house/general details as per below.
Please feel free to peruse the books and craft things everywhere!
*Lots of art/craft books in cupboard by 2nd room
RUBBISH BINS are down the side of the house to the far left as you’re
looking at the house from the street
RUBBISH (dark green bin) gets picked up about 5pm Tuesday eve
RECYCLING (blue lid is for PAPER/CARD/yellow lidded bin is fo rGLASS/BOTTLES)
get picked up first thing wed morn (look up and down the street for which bin others have out)
PLEASE bring bins in if & when you remember:)
GARDEN: needs a bit of a water every day in summer, less often in winter.
Left tap out by double doors that lead to garden (near bathroom)does an
automatic’ water, so leave this on about 40 mins a day in summer,
Herbs and pots will need a bit extra from the hand held hose too (the other tap) water as needed:)
OUTDOOR LIGHTS are located on the wall by the doors in the main bedroom
(lights up the back part of yard)
Another lot that light up the rest can be switched on at the side of the double doors leading
to garden near bathroom. They make it look v nice at night!
OUTDOOR CUSHIONS are stored in the laundry- you will see them there.
The 6 larger ones are for the base of the long wooden seats, smaller lighter ones for the backs
and sides. Very comfy! Please remember to bring them in as they’re not meant for outside really.
HEATING + COOLING
Air con in main bedroom is good for summer nights,
(its control thingy is by the bedroom door to the left) or use the mobile fan if you don’t fancy air con.
You will probably need a ‘mozzie zapper’ too, esp. if you like to sleep with doors/windows open
It will last 8 hrs, please remember to pull it out of the electricity socket
each morning otherwise it’s a fire rsik:(
Heating - air con in bedroom is good and warms up the room quickly,
use the gas heater in the lounge area (just press ON/OFF button on far right,up/down for temperature)
and blow heater in the second bedroom if needed.
WASHING AND DRYING
Washing machine gets ‘the shakes’ but it works pretty well. I put it on an express
30 min cycle for daily washing...this seems to do the job. All the others are much longer!
There is a great little clothesline out the back which you can use to dry your washing,
or a little grey mobile one in laundry also that can be put on lawn to chase the sun around:)
If using the dryer, please remove lint from lint filter in dryer EACH TIME YOU USE IT.
Otherwise it may cause more fire risk issues:)
ALSO PLEASE KEEP LAUNDRY DOOR OPEN
and switch laundry light on each time you use dryer as it activates the fan in there:) thankyou!
As a courtesy, it would be much appreciated if someone is staying in the second bedroom,
could keep in mind that someone else usually sleeps in the room that attaches to
that space at the front of the house. Please use consideration :) As I will ask them to, too:)
Please don’t worry about washing the bedclothes or towels etc, I will see to that:)
Do please put your rubbish out, however, into the relevant bins outside.
(URL HIDDEN) GENERAL STUFF
You MAY hear odd noises outside at night:) Usually they are possums, bats,(neighbours!)
or a combo of all three(!), or perhaps just the palm fronds dropping on the roof:)
The fronds can be very loud but don’t be afraid!
Please drag them somewhere out of the way if they should fall during your stay:)
DO use the garden’s herbs etc (bay leaf tree + curry leaf tree are always ‘on’)
Plus you are welcome to use all the basics that are in the cupboards and fridge too:)
NIGHT LIGHT: there is a very handy little light that switches on both ends of the passageway
that leads up to your ‘pod’/ part of the house.
You will find there is a switch at either end of the path, attached to the weatherboards...
so switch it on on your way out, and off on your way back in:)
FRiDGE LIGHT is on the blink
As is bathroom fan switch. Sorry:(

I'm a long-time designer and writer, and have my own small biz and now shop:)
I love books, creating stuff with paper (have written a book on the subject), anything 'vintage' or 'old'...things with history, basically. I am a keen cook and gardener though slightly more successful at the former (thankfully the garden looks after itself!) I love music, talking and walking...oh god this is sounding like a lonely hearts ad! It isnt! I have a lovely beau a few kms away with whom I will stay if you are at mine! I have enjoyed quite a few airbnb experiences staying at others' places and love the idea of it all.
