Astoria is a great place to stay. There are a lot of restaurants, pubs and food stored nearby. It was easy to get into the apt. and the room itself was all right. During the winter, the heat pipes do make some banging noise at night, but ear stoppers do the job :)
Very close to ditmars boulevard, which has a lot of groceries, pubs and all kinds of stores with no need to go to Manhattan, to buy anything.
Very close to subway which leads to manhattan quickly.
Very safe neighborhood
The building complex is beautiful
The house has some facilities as oven, microwave oven and a laundry in other complex.
Elvis was very great host! The location is very convient and safe in Astoria,a lot of restaurants and markets (website hidden) takes only 5 minutes to N/Q trains which takes only 30 minutes to Times Square. We didn't met Suzi but Elvis was warm-hearted and he allowed us to leave our luggages in the room and check out late because our flight was very late.We had a wonderful experience in New York. Thanks!
We were there for 4 days and the location is perfect, just a few minutes walk to subway and 25min to manhattan.
Our room was like on the pictures, nice and clean. A little bit noisy but that was, I think, because of the heat.
The bathroom was dirty the first days but then I told Elvis and he apologized for it, so the cleaning lady came and it was a little bit better.
We never met Elvis and Suzie but they are very helpful and whenever you need them you can call them.
Staying with Suzi and Elvis was exactly what we were looking for - getting there was easy, the neighborhood was safe, the subway was nearby, and the price was cheap for NYC. We were very happy with the room overall, and would stay there again.
The one downside was that the building made some sort of noise during the night that sounded like someone hitting pipes with a hammer. The first night, the noise woke us up every 1-2 hours. Fortunately, the second night, the noise only happened once. I don't think it was related to anything in Suzi and Elvis' apartment, and I didn't see any posts about it in previous reviews, but it might be something to ask about.
Wonderful neighborhood and the room was fine for a short trip in the very expensive NYC.
I suggest this place!
Was a fine stay. Elvis stayed in touch with us and took care of our needs.
Unfortunately I became very ill, and had to cancel the trip the day before. I asked to reschedule, and hoped to use the $165 I had paid towards the room, then add $15 extra for their troubles, as I'm on a fixed income with having Chronic Fatigue and ADHD. I had also lost the bus reservation money, and as well was upset because my trip to NY was to visit my mother in the nursing home who's health is declining. But Suzi and Elvis refused to accommodate in any way, and to reschedule, I would again have to pay the full $165. Of course I understand they're running a business, which is why I again asked to reschedule but for 4 nights this time instead of 3, and pay $20 extra, And if they agreed, (or perhaps made another offer) I wouldn't write any negative comments on their review page. But again they refused to negotiate. I did check Airbubs' policies which in detail discuss "Extenuating Circumstances" and being a "Gracious Host". Though to be fair, due to some technical errors on my part with Airbub, and with my contacting them so many times, I understand that for just a few nights' rent I was NOT worth the trouble. And though there was no foul language exchanged between us, I was refused again any negotiating, That I should then discuss these matters with Airbub was my only means of concluding this matter. Suzi and Elvis, as with many listings on Airbub, state no refunds for the week prior to the date rented. This is my first time having to cancel a reservation on Airbub, and I don't know what other peoples' experiences have been. But I would hope, if listing my room for rent on Airbub, and someone canceled last minute due to such circumstances, that I might be able to resolve the issue with greater understanding.
HOSTS BEWARE: Mara canceled her four night room reservation the night before arrival, we have a strict cancellation policy and she asked if she could use the dates at a later time. We told her, she can not because we would not be able to re-rent the room in such short notice and that its an opportunity cost on us. We explained that she would need to alter/change her reservation on AIrbnb so our calender is freed up and if we rent it then we could return her funds. We explained to her that we have rent to pay every month. She did not reply in time and did nothing, only after her dates passed did she threaten to write a harsh review on our page and demanded her money back. She did write her harsh review and it really showed the type of person she is. We have over 200 positive reviews and I'm sure her one review will not play a judgmental role on our guests. However if you are just starting out or do not want to deal with a non rational person we would have to say beware of this guest. We would definitely not host her ever again and put up with her insane messages. Stay away from this headache. Guests we hope you will look at our 200 positive reviews and not judge us by these harsh comments from a distraught guest : )
My brother and I really enjoy our stay in their appartment. The subway is very close and we were in manhattan really fast, the neighborhood is really nice to discover. Thank you for this stay!
The place was in a great location, next to all shops, restaurants, and the N/Q train. The neighborhood had a great feel to it, and me and my 11 year old daughter felt safe walking back even late at night. The room was basic, but clean and warm. The kitchen was well stocked, and we had everything we needed for our stay. The hosts were quick with communication and check in was easy. Great value for the money. Staying in Queens was nice to feel like a local, beats a $400 Times Square hotel any day!
