This is a gorgeous character filled fully furnished apartment in the heart of Darlinghurst which can be considered heart of Sydney.
Property is located at the corner of Bourke and Liverpool streets. You will be in walking distance to:
*night clubs and restaurants in Kingscross (10 minute walk),
* trendy bars and restaurants of Victoria street (5 minute walk),
*centre of gay night life in Sydney Taylor square and Oxford street ( 5 minute walk),
*China Town ( 20 minute walk), Sydney's little Italy, Stanley street ( 5 minute walk),
*City Centre, Harbour and the Opera house ( 20 minute walk though Hyde Park, Domain or Royal Botanic Gardens).
In addition to all of these places you can walk Taylor square is less than 5 minutes walk from the house and all of the Eastern Suburb Beach busses pass though this stop to take you to Bondi, Bronte, Coogee and Marrubra (All around 20 minutes bus ride, last one probably around 25 minutes)
During the months of June-Sept it is crucial that you have proper heating in the place that you will stay. Sydney gets cold and majority of the apartments are not designed to cope with cold. This place have the best quality gas heater to make sure that when you come home you can heat the place up within minutes.
The place has one bedroom with one queen bed which can easily accommodate 2 people, and a pull out couch that can accommodate an additional 2 people. There is also big enough wardrobe and storage if you plan to stay longer than a weekend.
The bathroom has a full bath and there is a complete kitchen to cook and prepare whatever you want ( except baking . . . :)
I think the best selling parts of the property is small private outdoor deck, with glimpses of the City Sky line (not a full view) and aspects of the neighborhood.
Place comes with FREE UNLIMITED Wi-fi, 32' flat screen TV with free to air channels. (there is an HDMI connection to connect your Laptop to TV if you choose to)
All starter essentials for a weary traveler are there for you including Bath Towels, Shampoos and Conditioner, Condiments, Herbs and Spices, Coffee Tea, Hair Dryer & Iron.
Check-in and Check out is really flexible (or at least bag drop is possible majority of the time)
As the listing mentions, the place really is in the heart of the city. It's a less than 10 minute walk to Hyde Park, and about 20 minutes to downtown Sydney. Darlinghurst itself is a wonderful neighborhood, with plenty of great bars and restaurants.
It's important to note that the unit itself is fairly small, but certainly big enough to comfortably accommodate one or two (maybe three if you're okay being a bit cramped) people.
Ali (brother), was communicative, reliable and more than helpful. The apartment was cute with nice views of the skyline, with a small alfresco area and location being central, this apartment certainly suited my needs. The only negative would be the shower space and the narrow climb to the top floor with heavy luggage, especially in wet weather, but Ali helped on the way up. Assuming you are spending much of your time out you will find the fast internet and space for friends more than adequate for practically half the cost of a hotel. Thanks Again.
The pluses: Omer and Ali were extremely responsive, with one exception (see below). Omer was very flexible in accommodating our early arrival, met us at a nearby cafe and even carried our bags up the very steep stairs. I asked if Omer had any washcloths, and he provided one (brand new) the next day. He also provided extra hangers.
The neighborhood is very centrally located, near a variety of public transportation. The TV and internet worked very well. The outdoor terrace was great.
The negatives: The bathroom occasionally omitted a sewer-like smell and was old and grungy, though clean. There's a small step from the bathroom to the kitchen and it would be very easy to trip and fall. To avoid this, I covered the bathroom tile with purple duct tape, which I removed when I left. There is no microwave or oven for heating food - just a toaster. When the sofa is opened up into a guest bed, it's very hard to move around the unit. The one overhead light in the bedroom was not conducive to reading. I saw one ginormous cockroach, but did find roach/ant traps under the sofa. The neighbors could be very noisy, playing loud music late at night. There was construction going on in a neighboring building which generated a lot of noise. There was not enough drawer space for clothes. I had to move books from the bookcase and use that space for clothes.
The one time I did not receive a response from Omer had to do with the washing machine. That was a "must have" for me, and when I booked, it was listed. When I arrived, it was broken. I sent Omer an email asking to be reimbursed for the A$15 it cost me to have my laundry done on the outside, but he never responded to that email.
If you're looking for a cheap (relatively speaking), safe, very well located place and don't mind the drawbacks I cited above, this would be a good place to stay.
I personally would not return because of the bathroom grunginess, the lack of a microwave or oven, the loud neighbors, the tightness of space when the sofa is open, and of course no washing machine.
We had a lovely stay in Omer's apartment - it couldn't be in a better spot. Omer was extremely helpful and responsive (we requested fans which he got without hesitation) and he was very accommodating with storing our luggage and bringing it to us. Ideal for 2 people - a bit cramped for 3 (but manageable as we were out most of the time).
Omers apartment is really nice close to good restaurants, bars and the city. Omer is really helpful and nice.
We had a great stay in Sydney in January/February. The apartment was ideally situated for us as we could walk to the City Centre and also mainly through parks and gardens to Circular Quay, and the Opera House area. It was only 10 minutes walk to/from Museum Station with frequent short connections to the airport, and also 10mins to Kings Cross and a big supermarket (Coles). Great cafe round the corner and lots of other cafes, restaurants, bars and clubs all around in a few minutes walk. The apartment is at the top of the building so plenty of light and air, a tiny rooftop patio outside the front door with trees around and a bit of a view of the city. There's quite a bit of intermittent traffic noise noticeable from the street, not surprisingly given the central location, but the area is generally quiet and atmospheric. We were met at the flat and Omer and his brother were really helpful. Sydney buses are frequent and easy to use to get to get to various beaches and there are the ferries from Circular Quay. We thought it was good value too, and would definitely recommend it - and would return. Good value and so central and convenient.
Omer's place is not perfect, but it has lots of things going for it, especially: the outside decking/seating area, the closeness to many facilities, always available hot water at a good pressure, Wi-Fi, a very comfortable bed, good supply of crockery and linen/towels and very adequate storage space.
Regarding the negatives: it is half way up a fairly steep hill (Liverpool Street) and then up several flights of stairs. The bathroom window does not close and neither do the internal doors. It does not have air con - which for several nights (out of 15) was a big problem. Leaving the windows open was not a good option due to outside noise (occasionally from neighbours and almost always from traffic) and mosquitoes. The washing machine was kaput, the shower head wouldn't stay put and the toilet, which had a permanent leak, broke after a few days. This, though, was a blessing, because a new replacement was very quickly organised by Omer's brother Ali.
Because we had a very late flight home Ali kindly allowed us to stay until 4pm on the day of departure.
We would definitely consider using the apartment again, although at that time of year (January) it would need to have air con.
Stayed with 4 in this cosy apartment, very friendly people, and all was taken care of: towels, practical stuff (cutlery, plates, ...), plenty of Sydney tour guides,... Good location! Good and proactive communication by the (website hidden). One couple slept in the room, the other on the pull out couch in the living area: do-able but 'very cosy' to share this place with 4 (just like the host said in his BnB description and in a message when booking the apartment). Thanks Omer (and Ali)! Had a good time!
The location of this apartment is fantastic - just a five minute walk from Oxford Street and into the city. The flat does not have fly screens or fans, so at night mosquitos were able to fly in - Omer was very helpful by bringing over a mosquito repelling device the following day. He was very kind and accommodating, allowing us a later checkout and being highly communicative throughout our entire stay. The flat itself has seen better days but would be perfect for a short stay given its fantastic location. I would definitely recommend this place to others.
Omer was a perfect host and this was a great apartment - 20 min walk to town through lovely Hyde Park (buses available too), great area for bars and places to eat too. The apartment had everything you needed for a comfortable stay - it was clean and had all amenities you would need. Omer was very flexible and helpful with dropping off and picking up bags. We would definitely stay here again. Thanks Omer
