The loft of Jennifer in Chicago is really an amazing loft and could have been a real pleasure if not... on my arrival i have found out that i have to climb three stairs of some external metal stairs carrying the heavy bag.
To enter the loft you have to follow certain instructions which are not very clear, jennifer was not there and left the key at a locker..
The loft is a piece of art, the design the unique pieces every corner every element is an example of true artistic approach and architectural design, but ...
the carpet in the living room is dirty and stained, the house is not cleaned dust is everywhere.. and my feeling was that i am entering a bed someone else just left.
Pity, it is such a waste. If only would have treated in a better care.
What a cool loft! My husband and I were in Chicago for only a few days but this was so much better than staying in a hotel room. The loft is a mix of vintage/industrial/chic. With a view of downtown, Jen's loft is about ten minutes from everything. Be aware it IS in a somewhat industrial area (with a train passing by here and there) so it's not as if you're going to walk to little boutiques or anything but that's actually what I loved about it.
Nice stay in this spacious loft. Jen was very prompt to reply to questions which was very helpful. I recommend being familiar with public transportation or having your own vehicle if you stay here. Master bed was extremely comfortable!
We had a great time in Chicago. Jennifer's loft was exactly as described. Beautifully remodeled with a lot of space and light. The kitchen area was great and with 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms we had more than enough room to relax and enjoy. Thank you so much for the wonderful hospitality.
The space is incredible - beautiful, wide open, and great view of downtown in the distance. It was a perfect location for our trip. There were a few quibbles that echo some more recent reviews. My husband and I have been spoiled by previous hosts. The little extras we've enjoyed in the past (stocked fridge, bottle of wine, spotless space) were not present. We got the impression that maybe the space isn't as well cared for as it used to be. But that didn't diminish our enjoyment even when we couldn't find toilet paper or when we ran out of hand and dish soap after the first day. Despite the quibbles, we'd stay here again. It truly is a unique and beautiful space.
I was really excited to stay here, but I must admit there's a bit of false advertising. First off, the listing says it's suitable for events, which is why I rented it for a bachelorette party in the first place. (I told the host ahead of time that this is why we were renting it.)
We arrived in the early afternoon and received a text from Jen 20 or so minutes later saying her neighbor downstairs had already complained about noise. (What!?) She then asked that we not wear high heels and informed me that her neighbor had small children who went to bed early. I was polite and said we'd try to keep the noise down, but I wasn't too happy about it. (While Jen was nice about it and also seemed a bit annoyed by her neighbor, I was still irritated. Why rent your place at all if you know you have a neighbor like that below you?)
Anyway, from there, it was just little things. Whirlpool = hot tub? There was hardly anything in the kitchen to cook with, the oven is partially broken (and very small), there was no treadmill or telescope (I think that's what it is) anywhere (as the photos showed) and none of us could figure out how to get the projector to work. After trying for an hour, we gave up. Had it not been for my friend with an aux cord in her car, we wouldn't have had music, either. (FYI, you have to climb a ladder to hook it up.) We were worried about being too loud the entire time anyway, so we kept the music down. (Bummer.)
The book of instructions for the house was a mess and there was also a post-it note right on top from a previous guest who had thanked Jen and mentioned how special her first night with her fiance was. It definitely made us feel a bit uncomfortable, almost like the place hadn't been cleaned between guests. Not sure why the post-it wasn't removed...) The book also didn't explain the surround sound or projector at all. I texted Jen and she tried to help, but we gave up out of frustration. So, we never got it working which was a huge disappointment.
As the night was winding down, we spotted three mice running in the apartment. Perhaps it was just one mouse, three separate times, but regardless, her place has mice. We left the trash bags on the counter overnight, just in case the mice wanted to eat through the bag.
The last annoyance: with all of us girls traveling from out of town, we expected the place to at least have shampoo in the morning... There wasn't. (Again, the listing said it would be provided.) So, we all had to share our friend's travel size bottle.
Jen seems nice, and the loft is big, but for the price we paid, and the inconveniences we faced, I'm not incredibly happy with our stay.
Jen made us feel very welcome. The space was just as amazing as it looks online and her decorating sense is spot on. We loved it.
