The Space

This well-located, hidden gem high on Richmond Hill has a distinct NYC/ London feel. More an architect designed space with levels rather than rooms. Located 20 steps from bustling Bridge Road, an easy 10 mins by tram (arriving every 5mins) to the city or 2 min train ride downtown that connects almost anywhere in the State.

Ground level comprises a study and open-plan lounge/living with a glorious atrium which allows an abundance of natural light to stream in. Next level, second living/dining room and smart granite kitchen opening onto a generous terrace, views to the Dandenong Ranges and a striking amber-lit clock tower, that will take you breath away!

Master bedroom with balcony overlooks the city skyline, further complemented with a huge bathroom, complete with separate shower and bath - A private powder room with 2nd WC is at your disposal.

The guest room is a bright, spacious haven - 11.5 x 13.5 ft, capturing the imposing spire of St. Ignatious and abuts our historic “Pelaco” building, at the highest point on the Hill - city skyline is visible from the opposite window. As this occupies the top level, it affords complete privacy and tranquility. Fitted with split system A/C-heating and WI upon request. Comes with a super comfortable queen bed, perfect for a good nights sleep. Linen and towels supplied.

My abode is eclectic mix of vintage flair, incorporating pieces of sculpture and artefacts, walls adorned with art. These spaces change with mood and season. Music station, CD/IPod, LCD TV, etc all part of the equation. Serenity to relax and unwind when not taking in the sights. Help yourself to a light breakfast. Chill/soak up the atmosphere on the terrace, front courtyard or balcony and further contemplate your blessings.

The delights of Bridge, Swan and Church Streets beckon. Can't go past Thomas Dux, gourmet grocer - across the road for you hopeless foodies - numerous bakeries and great coffee shops just steps away. Richmond Plaza with a large supermarket, deli, liquor outlet, chemist, massage and various boutiques at your disposal.
Venture to Victoria Street (2 blocks away) for freshly prepared, economical Vietnamese/Asian cuisine - seafood aplenty!!

The fashion mecca of the country, Chapel Street, Sth Yarra, is 10 mins on the 78 Tram. Rub shoulders with well-healed shoppers on Toorak Road – dine in style. Walk the beautiful Fitzroy and Botanical Gardens. A hop, skip and jump away, the famous sporting stadiums - MCG, AAMI Park, Rod Laver Arena and the Tennis Centre
Don't forget St Kilda, by the beach with its funky bars and al- fresco dining. There are endless things to do - happy to offer suggestions. Fine dining restaurants dot inner-city Melbourne with every imaginable cuisine.

  • Lorraine's place was perfect for my stay so close to transport yoga great coffee and food places but nicely tucked away in a private lane providing a relaxing homely feel. Lorraine and Peter made me feel welcome and did everything to make my stay comfortable and enjoyable which was very much appreciated especially considering that Lorraine had returned in the middle of my stay from a long overseas trip.
    Highly recommend

  • Lorraine was a lovely, fun and welcoming host, and the neighbourhood of Richmond was a fantastic and convenient home base during our Melbourne stay. With a tram stop close by, and a train station a reasonable-but-not-unpleasant walk away, we were able to enjoy a more relaxing city fringe atmosphere without ever feeling cut off from the CBD. A thoroughly pleasant experience all around!

  • This is an exceptionally nice home in an exceptionally nice place. Lorraine's place is steps away from Bridge Road, which boasts many, many great shops, restaurants, pubs and coffee houses. Additionally, public transportation in the form of the tram is also steps away. Her home is a tranquill retreat filled with beautiful art and tastefully decorated.

Lorraine is a lovely person who clearly does this because she enjoys social contact and doing what she can to help people enjoy this city which she so adores. She is very organized and is happy to help with any tips or advice you might need.

It would be hard to conjure a better place to stay or a better airbnb experience!!

  • Great first air Bnb experience. Lorraine was very accommodating, although I didn't see her much at all. The location is amazing just tucked behind bridge road with brilliant shops, trams, a gourmet grocer & a neat cafe a few doors away doing delicious takeaway coffees $2 all day everyday, a stay to look forward to for your city fix.

  • What an excellent host and more.

I came to Melbourne for a year fellowship from the UK as a neurointerventionalist (doctor). My plans only came together at the last minute. Even though I had to find a place at the last minute, she was very helpful and facilitated the process. All her communication has been clear and timely.

She has gone far above and beyond her obligations to make me feel welcome and settle me into Melbourne. She has made me feel at home; offered me food and drink. We have also eaten out and travelled together.

The place itself is just as described; warm and homely, with a great artistic ambience. My room was clean, tidy and comfortable. The Richmond area itself is easily accessible and the tram stops 2 mins away.

Lorraine has been fantastic, she has helped me find another place to live and even found me a bicycle and personally delivered it to the repair shop! She has always been the source of interesting conversation.

I am sure we will keep in touch during my year in Melbourne.

    Thank you L!

  • We were so fortunate to stay with Lorraine as our first Airbnb experience. A gracious host in her delightful home!
Our room, very comfortable and easy to linger on in- all we needed + the view (especially at night.Thx L!).
The city so nearby (pleasant walk or tram with a trusted Myki card). Wandering locally is good value and so very convenient (Mazzitelli (sp?) only about 3 mins walk away on Bridge Rd has coffee it out!).
Thanks again Lorraine for sharing your home with us. Hope to return. Our very good wishes to you.

  • Lorraine place is fantastic! It looks just like the photos, clean and tastefully decorated.
The location is perfect for exploring Melbourne. Great neighbourhood, many good restaurants, coffee houses and bars.

  • I came to Melbourne for the Australian Open and chose Lorraine's place because of the great reviews and also the location is very convenient for the tennis. It's not often that a place way exceeds your every expectation, but this one does. Lorraine's home is lovely and the room is very comfortable. It is just outside the city center but the tram stops right at the door almost. Richmond it very nice with lots of shops and cafés very nearby. And Lorraine is just the best - from her first email until I (reluctantly) said goodbye she was gracious, welcoming, fun and very helpful. I felt like I was staying with a good friend. I cannot imagine anyone not loving the place and adoring the hostess.

  • A lovely place, well set out - with a homely feel to it. I certainly felt comfortable within Lorraine's home and with her as my hostess.
For anyone going to 'The G', this is the place to be !

  • Lorraine was a great host and the apartment was fantastic! She genuinely wants you to have a good time during your stay and recommends a whole range of places to try out and places to see. This was my first experience with Airbnb and it showed me what a positive experience it can be. Thanks!

Having moved into this well-located, hidden gem on Richmond Hill some 15 months ago and after a knock-out stay in Honolulu (airbnb) earlier, I've decided to give hosting a shot. I am well-travelled with a thirst for people/places/the unknown. Retired from the corporate world within the sales and marketing/advertising arena, I now prefer managing a handful of investment properties, but mostly spend my time between the beach (Lorne, Victoria - properties listed on airbnb) and frequent overseas holidays. Enjoy the arts, retro furniture/jewellery/couture/architecture. Avid enthusiast of all things vintage. My indulgence is searching interesting haunts, hoping to stumble across the unique/the unusual. When in town, often seen bidding at weekly in-house auctions - not forgetting "street theatre" with Melbourne Real Estate, the auction capital of the world!! Delight in making people feel comfortable, at home with everything at their fingertips. Love to eat, cook and entertain ...... WOULD'NT BE DEAD FOR QUIDS!
