The Space

Master bedroom with large private bath in my Pinecrest (Miami) home. The neighborhood is very peaceful, safe, and quiet. I'm near Fairchild Tropical Garden, Matheson Hammock Park, Deering Estate, Pinecrest Gardens, and not too far from University of Miami and Zoo Miami. Also, a 30 minute drive to Homestead and good access to Everglades National Park and the Keys. This is not South Beach and probably not the best choice for someone who wants to spend most of the time at the beach since it can be a challenging drive there in Miami traffic. The nearest really good beaches are on Key Biscayne, which is also about 30 minutes away, as is the airport.

Lots of restaurants of all kinds and good shopping are close by (I don't provide food but there are many reasonable nearby choices inc. Whole Foods and Fresh Market.) WiFi, coffee maker, microwave, hair drier, iron, and TV are available in the room. I would recommend you take the Metrorail from the airport and you can easily rent a car at the local Enterprise and save some money. Not a good area for public transportation; a car is really necessary. There is plenty of space in my driveway to park your car.

Since I work, you will have privacy and be on your own for getting around. I'm willing to offer advice, though, if you want it or need it as I have lived in Miami for 40+ years. (UM grad) The entrance to the room is from the patio sliding door, next to the pool. It is attached to the house but you don't walk through the house.

A great stay for the nature minded who are looking for some quiet R & R. My guests come as guests and leave as friends.

Guest Access

Their room, their own private bathroom that is accessible only from their room, the patio, the pool, and of course, driveway parking.

Interaction with Guests

My guests are busy and independent as I am.

The Neighborhood

My neighborhood is a quiet, peaceful residential area.

Getting around

You will need a car.

Other Things to Note

I provide a hairdryer. I have stayed in other AirBnB rooms as a guest and I can say I provide twice as much as any room I've stayed in but less access to the house.

  • Jane was a wonderful hostess, graciously accommodating me at the last minute after an unexpected cancellation by another host. The room was spacious and comfortable with private access. She was very helpful with directions and suggestions for places to eat and shop. Not at all intrusive if you want your privacy, but very warm and welcoming. I will definitely stay again if it is available when I am in the area. There is also plenty of room to park, and the yard and lanai are both huge and beautiful! I was really treated more like an old friend than a stranger- thank you so much Jane!

    Response from Jane:

Don called me a few days before his visit and his plans had changed due
to mechanical issues he was having with his motorcycle. He asked if he
could alter his reservation from 4 nights to 2 and possibly change
which nights. I suggested some locations that would work better for him
and he e-mailed me later that afternoon thanking me and saying he found
something that fit their situation. I told him that he could cancel the
other two nights with no penalty and he said he would. He hadn't done
it several hours later and I was concerned since he told me he did not
have access to consistent Internet that he would be charged a penalty
so I cancelled his reservation for him so he could get his full refund.
There were no hard feelings. Don was on a huge road trip and he needed
flexibility. He seems like a really nice guy and I did not cancel him
for any reason other than it was best for both of us.

  • Jane is a very kind and helpful host. During the week we were there she was out of town - but she thoroughly prepared everything for us AND was available and quick to respond to questions/issues that whole time when she was on an international trip (she has a friend nearby who came over in a pinch one evening when we needed to fix something - and who came over a separate time, right away, when we couldn't figure out how to turn on the patio ceiling fans). I was really amazed at how Jane had arranged that - we were never left in the lurch if we couldn't figure out how to use/fix something - even though she was thousands of miles away at the time.
I grew up in Miami, so I knew the neighborhood well - her house is in the middle of the suburbs (of Pinecrest) but 1-1.5 miles from plenty of restaurant, grocery, etc. options. I found it very pleasant - and everything she claimed - there was no false advertising. I am only bummed that I did not get to meet her in person. Miami traffic is horrific - but I knew that going in - newcomers should definitely anticipate that. The weather was beautiful the week we were there, and sleeping with the windows open was very tranquil (a quiet neighborhood), and it was lovely hearing the breezes, birds, soft rainstorms coming and going, etc. There is a pool just outside of the room that we enjoyed as well - but if you are a family, your kids should be confident swimmers (the deep end is quite deep), which Jane will tell you.

  • I enjoyed my stay, room was comfortable, clean, and quiet. Private back entrance to the room made it feel like a separate apartment. Lots of extras in the room including coffee maker and microwave helped make me feel at home. Jane was a great host who checked in often to make sure everything was ok. Recommend you stay at Jane's while visiting SW Miami.

  • This was a last-minute booking on my part and I was making plans while on vacation, so it was helpful that Jane was very quick with her responses. She was also really nice and ended up giving me directions when I got lost (my fault for not writing down the address correctly). Her guest room is one of the largest I've been in and has all the amenities. I also love the guest entrance. Hopefully will get to stay here again. :-)
