This room offers a European hotel style stay in an studio-like room.
The large room has a trundle bed (a twin with another twin under it that can come out and up to form a king), table and chairs, armchair and kitchenette area with refrigerator, microwave and coffee maker (only - no sink or stove). There is a high-definition television with basic channels as well as Netflix and Hulu Plus streaming services.
To get to the room you don't need to enter anyone's private space so you can have as discreet and private a stay as you like (e.g. no issues with coming home very late.)
The room faces south and is in the rear of the building so it has lovely light, is quiet with view of leafy trees.
The bathroom is off the hall just outside the room and is shared with one other person staying on your floor.
The room is in a lovely brownstone on a tree-lined block in historic Crown Heights just off the exciting commercial strip of Franklin Avenue that has a great selection of cafe's, restaurants and shops. Beautiful Eastern Parkway, the Brooklyn Museum, Brooklyn Botanic Garden and Prospect Park are a walk away.
The whole city is at your finger tips as four subway stations are within walking distance (C at Franklin Ave (Fulton St), 2/3/4/5 at Franklin Ave (Eastern Parkway), A at Nostrand Ave and S at Park Place)
Your hosts live downstairs and are New York City lovers who can provide numerous insider tips so you can get the most of your visit.
***Note: The room is great for couples coming for a few days or a week or so. Its also great for one person for a sublet of up to three months, but we don't recommend it for a couple for this longer duration***
My friend and I had a great stay at Ryan and Ellen's apartment! It was about 10 min from the A/C train and we had no problems getting access through the keyless entry system. The room was spacious and comfy. We really appreciated the microwave, fridge and all the awesome books and maps of NYC. It was a pretty quiet place too, which we appreciated. We had one issue with returning the keys, but Ryan was quick to meet us in person. If I am traveling with a friend again, I would definitely stay at Ryan and Ellen's again due to the two separate single/twin beds - really a plus!
We had a great time at Ryan and ellen's! The room is beautiful, and the neighborhood really Nice (lot's of Nice cafés on Franklin avenue).
The private entrance is convenient and Ryan and Ellen are always ready to help or give tips on the city or anything else.
Ellen & Ryan are very nice, friendly, caring and communicative people. The room is big and bright with beauty full view to their garden - and not expensive. The neighborhood with old houses nice for photographers, very safe area with good subway connections.
Good small grocer`s shops, laundry and super cafeteria "Lazy Ibis" and recommendable Roco`s Pizzeria! I hope, I can visit NYC Brooklyn next year and stay again in family Russo`s house! It was the best Airbnb accommodation I had till now!
Staying at Ryan & Ellen's place was great! Communication was very easy and quick from day one till the moment we were gone.
The place is well located in between at least 3 - walk reachable - train stations so moving around the city was very simple.
Everything they mention about the privacy and the space of the room is true and the beds were extremely comfortable.
It was a great place to start off meeting New York and we definitely recommend it.
Our stay with Ryan and Ellen was perfect. The brownstone is a beautiful building, with a lovely interior. We loved the privacy of our own entrance. The fridge and microwave were a bonus as well. We felt very comfortable and secure staying with Ryan and Ellen. They were great hosts, very warm and helpful. Easy walk to a few subway lines and some very cool cafes. Great airbnb experience, would definitely recommend a stay here!
My partner and I had a cozy, warm stay at Ryan & Ellen's. The private room had everything we needed and was very close to a subway station. We had our own set of keys and came and went as we pleased. Ryan was also helpful with the area, navigation and provided a great map of Brooklyn. Great pick!
Ryan and Ellen were extremely nice and (email hidden)ey keep a clean, warm and inviting home. There was the perfect mix of privacy and friendly connection with them. I was very grateful for my stay.
We had a very plesant stay at Ryan and Ellen's. We spent one week in the room. The room has a good size and is very lite. You will find a small kitchen with fridge and microwave. The bathroom is just next to the room but you will have to leave your private space. We liked that the room has a private entrance. We had the opportunity to chat once with Ryan. He is a nice guy and recommended us some sights. All our email contact was good and fast.
It's easy to get there with public transportation. Franklin Station of Sub C is a 5 min walk away and a bus stop is just in front of the house. You can find at Franklin also a citi-bike station. The neighborhood is safe and the brownstones are lovely. At the corner of Dean street is a small grocery store that is open till late. And at the station tere are various restaurants. Very comfy. We can definetly reccomend a stay at Ryan and Ellen's and would love to come back on our next ny stay! There is so much to explore. Brooklyn is great.
Dear Brooklyn-bound airbnb customer,
I can fully recommend this lovely private room in Borwnstone. It is excatly like to picture shows you - lovely, little bit of rusty, but with a lot of character. The neighbourhood is diverse and gives a real Booklyn experience. The nice ground floor vintage stores are just around the corner. It is only few train stops from BAM where you can see excellent Brooklyn shows (off-off Broadway) with quarter of the cost.
When coming from the JFK I would recommend to ask Ryan and Ellen the number of car service. That is how they call taxis in Brooklyn. The JFK (New York Yellow Cabs) do not necessary know Brooklyn that well and when you are tired after a continental flight you might not pay attention if the street number was 10 or 100. Streets tend to be quite long in Booklyn so it makes easily 20-30 USD more if you start looking for your address from the wrong end of the long road. It takes only 30 min to the JFK - if straight driven.
The room itself was very private. You have your own entry and shared bathroom with another person staying in that floor. It worked very well - the toilet was never occupied when I needed it. It was maybe not an American style bathroom, but more like a bigger version of Parisian showers and toilets, however, there was warm water all the time (which would not be tha case in Paris).
I used trains 4/5 everyday. It brings you to the City in 30min. The Lexington Express train is fast and does not stop on every stop which makes it very fast. Also I walked home from the train station around 11pm and there were two police patrols patrolling the road from the train station to the house. So that can increase or decrease the feel of security, but it is always an option to take a cab from the City if arriving later. The trains seem to run throughout the night, but I would maybe not take a train to Franklin after midnight.
It is a real Booklyn experience and I can highly recommend. Please, make sure to walk around Park Slopes, too.
Because it was our first accommodation through Airbnb, we have no means of comparison. However, we were pleasantly surprised.
A large clean room, a useful bathroom and a central location near to Metro and restaurants. This made our stay in New York a real pleasure.
Although we saw Ryan only at our arrivel we found him very kind and welcoming. He is an unobstrusive host.
As we learned to love NYC we want to come back soon and then we would try to stay with Ryan and Ellen again.
