A charming apartment for experts entirely wood made by the sure touch of a local old craftsman – Sir Fausto – who lived and worked in “Campo de’ Fiori” area at the beginning of the twentieth century. The apartment is especially cozy because of the recent remodelling.
The “Bollo” is a magic, enchanting place; It will be like living on a boat in the heart of the city, far from any noise even you are less than one hundred meters far from Campo de’ Fiori where every morning (except on Sunday), starting from the dawn, you can see the most characteristic and coloured market of flowers, fruit and vegetables in the city.
The “Bollo” is a perfect lovely nest, enriched by its ancient vault-ceiling, the original sixteenth century peperino-marble capitals (peperino is a volcano tuff which is grey with black little grains like peppergrains; this kind of stone is found in the Albani hills near Rome), the porthole-windows – in peperino marble as well – which belonged to the ancient fifteenth century convent, basis of the recent building.
The apartment consists of one room perfectly acclimatized (air conditioned) and endowed with an elegant cooking alcove (where guests will find everything necessary for cooking and also a microwave).
Free wifi Internet connection!
The flat can accommodate up to four people; the two sleeping areas furnished with refined upholstery and both fitted with a comfortable double bed are positioned on two typical wooden lofts which look each other, reached by two staircase-wardrobes that are in harmony with the open space.
The apartment is situated on the ground floor facing a characteristic courtyard where you can see a nice little fountain. Completing the loft a modern dining-table and a comfortable sofa which coverts into another double bed.
The bathroom, like the whole floor of the house is made of pricks. It contains a shower and is well stocked with everything that guests need (towels, soap, shampoo).
The location of the apartment is exceptional as you are extremely close to all the classic sights of Rome. Castle Sant’Angelo, Saint Peter’s, Piazza Navona, Campo de’ Fiori and the Pantheon are all no more than an easy three minute walk.
Vicolo del Bollo goes from Via del Pellegrino (the ancient road travelled by the pilgrims who used to reach San Peter’s) to via dei Cappellari (where still today the last roman real carpenters go on doing woodwork).
The toponym of the lane comes from the “Ufficio del Bollo” established in 1608 by a notification which ordered the jewellers to work just pure gold and silver and masters of the mint to check and brand (or seal) the works. The jewellers lived in via del Pellegrino; after finishing their works they used to go “al Bollo” right to seal their works. At the beginning of the lane there is a sacred image which is protected by a glass.
The perfect starting point to best enjoy the best of the eternal city!
We had a great stay at the boat house. It's very clean, quit and cozy! Also the location is perfect. Alessandro is a nice and reliable host. He helps you with everything you need. I will book it again if we come back.
When going to Rome Alessandro's apartment is the place to stay! It's in the middle of the "action" at Campo de Fiori, but drawn back in a calm and quite little yard - best sleep I've had in a long time. Everything is within walking distance, The Vatican, Colloseum - you name it. The 600 year old apartment is super cosy, clean and just what you need to recover after a full day of walking Rome. Alessandro has some great recommendations for eating - not to be missed. So: When in Rome..stay at Alessandro's little gem :0)
Alessandro is WONDERFUL! Our flight got in early (I know... unheard of) and he raced to meet us at the apartment so we didn't have to wait on exploring the city. The location of the apartment couldn't be better. You are right in the middle of everything so it is a quick walk to all of the great sights. The apartment is cosy and everything we needed. The stairs up to the beds are a bit steep if you aren't comfortable climbing up and down it may not be a good fit, but we didn't have any issues ourselves. The shower water pressure is also quite weak but we always had a warm shower. The pictures truly do capture what the flat looks like; however, the front of the flat picture is actually the inside courtyard of the building. If you go up and down the street looking for the portholes, you wont find them because you have to enter a building first and then you see the front of the flat. Our mistake but I figured I would just recognize it from the photos. Overall, a wonderful place to stay and Alessandro set-up our transportation from the airport to the flat which made getting into Rome so simple and easy. Great place to stay!
Wonderful apartment in the heart of rome! Alessandro was a great host, very good communication and he had the best recommendations for us! Would love to stay there again!
This year in Rome we discovered Alessandro and his cozy Charming Boat .I would like to thank him and his parents for their hospitality and help in many situations. There are a lot of nesessary staff there: kitchenware, tea-kettle, free wi-fi! Beds are comfortable what is very important after long walks during the day. The apartment location is perfect!!!
Dear Ale, many thanks for everything :)
nice small lovely clean apartment, thanks to allessandro for being frıendly and helpfull wonderfull place to go any touristic places by walking. if ı go again to rome allessandros place will be ny only choice..
Great apartment, very similar to what it looks like in pictures. Very comfortable, and a perfect location. Also a bargain for that location. Just a warning, the directions are a wee bit confusing. From what we could figure out, there isn't a campo di fiori stop. We got off across from Largo di Torre Argentina. Then we also got a bit confused about the address- but it's apartment 14 on the little side street called Vicolo del Bollo which connects via del cappelari to via del pelligrino. It wasnt too confusing if you have internet, but we didnt at the time. The second warning is for if you have thick hair- the water pressure is not the best for washing your hair! But in reality these really are just warnings, as the appartment is beautiful, clean and perfectly located. It's a real steal for the price and location. Also, allesandro is great with communicating, despite not being in the same country!
Alessandro's apartment was the best choice I have ever made as for the looking for the place to stay during my abroad trips. I am not kidding. It is located in the very heart of Rome: Campo di Fiori. Near the apartment you have got everything: in the mornings- flower and fresh food markets, in the evenings - bars, pubs, and night life. Vatican, Forum Romanum, Colloseum... - couple meters by foot. Perfect! And Alessandro is very openhearted and decent man who for sure will not disturb you during your stay. I am sure that some day I will back again as 4 days of sightseeing and living the city is to less for Rome. Grazie Alessandro!
I thoroughly enjoyed my stay here while in Rome and couldn't say enough about Alessandro. I own a travel business and the purpose of my trip was to review sites, restaurants and accommodations in Rome. Alessandro made many great recommendations for restaurants and I tried to hit as many of them as I could, and all were fabulous. The "boat" itself is indeed utterly charming. It was quiet and comfortable and just what I was looking for. And even when I made the terrible mistake of locking myself out on a very cold night, Alessandro and his lovely wife were very gracious and rushed over to open the door. If you are looking for an authentic experience, this is your spot.
We spent a great weekend at Ale's apartment. It was very clean, with wifi, wide enought for a family with children and very very well located at Rome's historic center. I give a 9 out of 10. I will recomend it to all my friends.
Just to point out something we would had appreciated a place to left some hours our luggage the day we left. It was impossible due another customer who were arriving at 12 am. As I said, just an idea for getting the 10.
