Cabin Features
Living Room: The Living Room is Very Cozy. Furnished in keeping with the Big Sur spirit it has vaulted ceilings and wood floors. The focal point is a stunning fireplace.
Kitchen: The kitchen is quite nice and modern with professional grade range and oven. There is a dining space next to the kitchen.
Loft: The loft is private and has a sitting area adjacent to it. The loft is accessed by a staircase, not a ladder. There is a double bed in the loft.
Bed Room: The private bedroom features a queen sized bed.
Grounds: You can literally explore for hours on this property. Benches are placed is spaces to take advantage of the sensational views. There is an outdoor fire pit (CURRENTLY NOT IN USE BY REQUEST OF CAL FIRE) and a separate detached deck overlooking the canyon. If you feel like exploring further, seldom will you find a cabin with its on trail to the ocean. This hike is one mile (one way) and has a 1,000 foot elevation drop to Garrapata Beach.
From its convenient location, you can be in the quaint town of Carmel in 15 minutes. You can be at Pebble Beach in 25 minutes or in Monterey in 30 minutes. Likewise, you can enjoy Rocky Point Restaurant right at the base of Garrapata Ridge. Or you can drive south and explore the Big Sur Coast. Nepenthe is approximately 25 minutes away. This cabin lets you escape everything and rejuvenate yourself. Yet there is dish TV and wireless internet if you choose to connect.

NOTE: Like most of Big Sur, cell phone coverage is a rarity. Plan in advance to bring wireless devices, as the cabin has wireless you can use to internet call people. Chances are your cell phone will not work at all. We do provide a landline at the cabin for local calls only. You may also make domestic US calls as well. Please no international calls. One of the beautiful things about Big Sur is it is an escape. Our cabin allows for this escape, yet offers the convenience of satellite wireless.

We are anxiously anticipating your stay with us.

Interaction with Guests

Because the street is a private road and the cabin is quite difficult to find the first time, I meet our guests and guide them to the cabin the first time to honor courtesies to neighbors regarding use of the private road

Other Things to Note

FIRE Restrictions: NOTE that Big Sur has had to deal with unfortunate forest fires recently. As such, the use of the outdoor fire pit and grilling are no longer permitted.

  • The cabin is stunning and while the pictures are accurate they still do not quite do it justice. The hike down to the beach is exactly as advertised, challenging but very worth it. Dave met us and guided us up the mountain which was very good since I'm not sure we would have found it with out him! We had a restful and lovely time.

  • Myself, my parents and my two children had a lovely stay in Big Sur. The house was perfect for our needs, roaring fire, well equipped kitchen and comfortable beds. The views from the garden were spectacular and it was great to sit outside with the humming birds beside you.

  • We enjoyed this gem of a cottage over Thanksgiving 2013. "We" are a party of 6, and includes my husband and I, my parents and my boys ages 4 and 2. This cottage has every amenity you could ask for. The kitchen was wonderful - a big farmhouse sink and professional grade gas range made our dinner prep a pleasure. My personal favorite is the huge fireplace that kept our holiday cheer high and our bodies warm. We brought firewood however there is more than enough stocked. The on-line photos are not an exaggeration of what we found when we arrived! We did the hike to the beach and let our kids run and play. When we were at the cottage the completely fenced in portion of the yard was a great plus. The canyon viewing deck sits outside of a gate and around a corner where you can escape for quiet time. We enjoyed morning and evening views there and took turns having private time to read, soak sun and sip a cocktail while the others watched the kids. The set-up is well planned and you quickly realize that this is a place of comfort and convenience. If you can think to need something, it's right there for you. I had an overwhelming sense that the hosts had thought of everything. The bench views around the property were fantastic for sunset viewing - which we did with a glass of wine. The night is so dark outside you sometimes can't see your hand in front of your face, which was great for stargazing. The internet works great and we had no problems with all of the gadgets we brought.

Saving the best for last - the host. Dave was the most warm and helpful host I have ever known. We started communicating more just before our trip and he was texting me on my drive up to make sure my directions there were clear. I was so excited by his descriptions and warm hospitality I felt like it was the best trip ever and I hadn't even arrived yet! The directions to the cottage were so perfect there was no guessing involved. We arrived without a hitch. Dave made sure I felt comfortable enough to let him know if we needed anything during our stay, which, we did not. The property is perfectly kept, and perfectly complete with all you could need. Best host ever; great overall experience!

A big 5 stars from us, you can't be disappointed with this property!

    Many thanks!!!

  • The cabin is absolutely amazing and Dave was a fantastic host. He met us down at Rocky Point Restaurant and kindly waited for me to propose to my then girlfirend. He had a bottle of champagne for us and showed us the way to the cabin.
The cabin and surrounding property are gorgeous. This is a place I could spend months. My only regret is we didn't stay longer.

  • We were beyond impressed with this cabin. It was everything we had anticipated and more. The space is perfectly decorated with all the amenities you would need for a comfortable stay. The view was breathtaking and the hiking trail behind the house was surreal. I would recommend this spot to anyone looking for the perfect Big Sur experience. I cannot wait to stay again!

  • A magical place you will never forget. Stunning views of the ocean and a valley. Beautiful cabin with a fireplace inside and a fire pit outside. Great, fully stocked kitchen. If you're lucky enough to be considering a stay here, go! Dave also gave great instructions and we had everything we needed. The drive up is a bit windy, (but very much worth it) just make sure to do it during the day, not at night.

The best airbnb I've stayed at thus far.

  • Absolutely perfect! If you are looking for a getaway this is your place, a real gem. Centrally located near Carmel, Monterey and Big Sur. We spent our wedding weekend at this amazing property and never wanted to leave. We could not have had a better experience at the Garrapata Cabin. Everything was as described with great communication from hosts. The cabin is well equipped and exceeded all of our expectations. There are breathtaking views from all over the property. Pictures (although nice) don't do the location justice. We hope to return again soon.

  • We had a fantastic time here. The house is in top condition, and was perfect for 4 people. We enjoyed using the well appointed kitchen, and the great outdoor seating areas. Nature right around the house is so fascinating and you have it all to yourself, including the stunning views.
I was really impressed with how helpful Dave was in guiding us to the house and how attentive and responsive in general.

  • Cozy,Soectacular location, stunning views! Great location for hiking and sightseeing. No cell service encourages group interaction. Slept four comfortably. Ideal for a weekend getaway. Would definitely stay again! Thanks Dave and Leilani

  • "Quintessential Big Sur" is exactly what describes this place. Our group of four enjoyed staying here more than we could have imagined. We were met by Dave who is a fantastic host, and a overall great guy. He met us on Hwy 1 and led us up the winding mountainside road to the property.
Touring the property will bring quite the smile to your face. The views are amazing, and the cabin is secluded and picturesque. The landscaping was very well done, complete with multiple flower beds, and a beautifully manicured lawn. We spent a substantial amount of time outdoors, either on the observation deck out back, or hanging out in the front lawn gazing at the rocky coast; a great spot for morning coffee.
The cabin itself afforded plenty of space for the four of us. The main bedroom is the more private of the two, with sliding doors that open up to the fireplace. The loft upstairs is charming, and comes with a beautiful view of the coast courtesy of a bedside picture frame window. We spent our nights by the fireplace, listening to music and drinking local wine into the wee hours of the morning.
The private hiking trail leads to Garrapata Beach, and starts right in the back yard. It entails around 1000' of elevation change, and is fairly steep in some sections. The mornings were the best times to go hiking, followed by a hearty breakfast and a refreshing shower in the clawfoot tub (complete with a rain shower head).
Before you arrive I would suggest picking up some basic supplies like wine, food snacks, etc. We did eat at Rocky Point restaurant one night. It's only 5 minutes by car, and a great option if you don't feel like cooking. Our group ended up spending more time at the cabin than we initially thought we would, requiring us to make an additional trip to the local market to pick up supplies.

Staying here was a dream, and afforded us a truly unique experience when compared with your typical hotel resort.

5 of 5 Stars, We'll definitely be back!
