The Space

This listing is for the main Om Shanti Cottage, a stand-alone building with a natural alang-alang roof, large yoga deck and beautiful outdoor garden shower. Situated away from the busyness of crowded tourist destinations, the main Cottage at Om Shanti provides a haven for those who desire time on their own to relax and enjoy the spiritual side of Bali. You will be transported into the sounds, colours and shapes of nature, helping you feel more at one with yourself.
The other building on the property (also with grass roof) is lower on the hill and holds 2 upper cottages and 1 lower cottage, all with nice balconies and views. These are rented separately and have their own Airbnb listings (Faery Garden Cottage, 1 Bedroom Sea View Cottage in Amed and Simple Room with a View and Pool).

The main Om Shanti cottage is large, giving you a feeling of spaciousness. You are the sole guests of this building. The master bedroom joins the deck through sliding glass doors. Fully air-conditioned with a king size 4 poster bed, you can lie in bed in the morning and watch the sunrise. An ensuite toilet and basin is off the bedroom and another door leads to the large outdoor garden shower with hot/cold water. Enjoy showering under the starry night sky or during daylight with views to the ocean(URL HIDDEN)metre by 6 metre covered timber deck hangs over the gardens and provides views out to the Bali Sea. Perfect for doing yoga or just relaxing or reading a book.
The Mezzanine: A set of stairs leads from the large deck to a mezzanine floor with a queen size bed and a mosquito net that fits over it. This area has a roof but is open-air, meaning you do not have a locked door. It is a bit like sleeping in a tree house. It does not suit everyone and especially not young children due to the steep steps leading up to it. The mezannine can accommodate a second couple, older children or young adults. Please view the photos before deciding to book, especially if you have children.
At one end of the mezzanine floor is a large triangular window with a desk that looks out to the ocean and surrounding hills. The area is perfect for meditation, reading and computer work.
A second toilet and smaller outdoor shower are situated off the large deck.
Om Shanti Main Cottage sits high on the hillside and there are many stairs to climb to get to it....you will be rewarded with the expansive sea views.

Our Lotus Healing Spa offers relaxing and nurturing warm stone, aromotherapy and traditional massages as well as pedicures, manicures and facials.

The pool is small but great for a refreshing dip on a hot day!

The Amed coastline is fringed by coral reef, making this a wonderful place for snorkelling and scuba diving. The calm bays are perfect for swimming.

Only 300 metres North, along the road is Jemeluk Bay, one of the nicest spots for swimming & snorkelling. Stop at the top of the hill for a view of Mount Agung and the coral reef through the clear waters of the Bay. At the bottom of the hill, turn into the driveway of Blue Star and Villa Coral. You can leave your belongings with the staff at Blue Star while you go into the water. Snorkel close to shore on the flat coral or venture out to the headland for some spectacular “bommies” and large schools of fish. Have lunch at Blue Star Café right on the beach.

Across the road from Om Shanti you will find a pathway to the rocky shoreline of Bunutan Beach. Just offshore is the reef, which stretches a kilometre, so you can swim for an hour or more and see a variety of different coral formations and types of fish, with many lovely surprises along the way
There are many attractions within a short drive of Om Shanti: Tirta Gangga Water Palace, Lempuyang Mountain and Temple, Besakih Temple, and Mempeh Waterfall. Also, you can go fishing with a local fisherman or go on a trek in the hills behind Om Shanti with a local woman to her family home. You will not have time to do everything you want to!
Om Shanti has full time staff on hand for all of your needs.
We have a small restaurant on site serving delicious meals both Indonesian and western as well as healthy teas and drinks (Tumeric, Aloe Vera, Soursop etc).
Included in the price: daily breakfast, bottled water, hot thermos for morning tea and coffee, daily room cleaning and weekly change of sheets. Also, free WiFi.The WiFi is not adsl but rather, wireless and is as good as anywhere in rural Bali. You are not able to do large downloads, but it's good for net surfing, email and social media.

Beautiful views, clear starry night skies, warm climate all year, clear ocean for swimming and snorkeling.

Interaction with Guests

I am in Bali half the year and am happy to assist in whatever way I can.

The Neighborhood

The area called Amed is actually a long stretch of road that encompasses many smaller villages. We are located in the village of Bunutan and are right on the border of Jemeluk. Behind our property is a terraced hill farmed by local families. You can walk the path up this hill and pass many small homes of local Balinese. It is a safe area of Bali and the people are friendly and curious about visiters. Most cannot speak English unless they work in one of the tourist places, so just wave and say "hello."
You can walk along the main road to Jemeluk (about 10 minutes) and then a bit further to the village of Amed (another 5 to 10 minutes). The best bay for swimming is at Jemeluk. We offer a free driving service to Jemeluk if you want to go there for a few hours.
We also have a long stretch of beach right across the road. It's mostly rocky, but is nice for an afternoon wander. The coral is not far offshore and there are many fishes. None of Amed's beaches are sandy and white....they all have rocks and/or black volcanic sand. The coral makes up for the lack of tropical beaches.

Getting Around

The best way to get around is by motor scooter or walking. From the airport or other parts of Bali we recommend using a driver. If you happen to arrive with your own car, we do have a safe parking area.
We have motorscooters for rent and also some of our staff can drive you to places around Amed for a small fee. Walking is easy and there are many cafes and beaches close by. About 15 minutes by foot is a small supermarket/shop that stocks many Western products including cheese, cereals, milk, bread and wine. If you don't want to walk, staff will be happy to drive you there and help you with groceries. There is a small local market near the supermarket, but you have to go early in the morning. Ask staff about it.

I'm from Australia and love travelling. I especially love wandering the back streets of towns and villages to get a feel for a place and the people. I am not into big touristy towns, much prefering the quaint, out of the way places where I can connect with local people. I love yoga, meditation, reading, writing guided meditations, going on walks along a beach or in the forest, swimming and snorkeling, tending a garden, and spending time with family and friends over a coffee or meal.
Bali is my second home. Actually it's my 3rd home. I was born and raised in Vancouver, Canada (1st home), left to travel in 1979 and settled in Brisbane, Australia (2nd home) and then discovered Bali in 2009 and created a beautiful meditation/yoga home there (3rd home).
