I had a lovely 4-day stay in this 100% adorable cottage-- it's definitely a private oasis in a tranquil back garden. I enjoyed my morning coffee every day looking out at it (too cold to sit outside while I was there, sadly) and feeling removed from the hustle and bustle of the city; but it's only a couple of blocks 23rd St shopping etc, and other city amenities are an easy walk.
The bed was comfy; the kitchen was reasonably well-equipped for coffee and a simple breakfast, which was all I wanted to do. Living room area is thoughtfully furnished and probably comfortable, but I wound up sitting in the kitchen all the time so I could look at the garden! The cottage got a little chilly at night, but there were plenty of blankets for the bed, and a couple of small space heaters.
I never actually met Alleyn as I arrived late at night, but she sent me access instructions and left a light on for me. I knew she was there, but never had any problems.
I had a rental car for this trip, but there was really no need of it. I wound up walking almost everyplace I wanted to go. Although there is a parking space in the driveway, I wouldn't recommend it - the turning is tight, and there is plenty of parking on the street.
I would definitely stay here again!
Alleyn's place was clean and quiet and the bed was very comfortable. The weather was cool and rainy, but space heaters were available to take the chill off the space, which is a little guesthouse in her backyard. Easy to get to the airport as the bus is only 2 blocks away and it dropped me off next to the light rail station that goes to the airport. It's also close to the 23rd St shops and restaurants. Would definitely stay here again!
Great neighborhood. Near streetcar and bus lines. Loved the quiet at night for a good rest. Loved being able to walk to Japanese Garden, organic grocery, etc. Love passing neat old houses with lush, colorful, and fragrant gardens. Appreciated having a fully furnished cottage (converted garage) and kitchen so I could prepare some meals instead of eating out the whole time. WiFi worked great. Alleyn was certainly welcoming, but I had privacy, which is important to me. I experienced only one drawback. I'm highly sensitive to strong fragrances and allergic to mold/mildew. I couldn't help but notice an odd smell whenever I was in--never figured out what it was--so I opened windows and ran the fan.
Alleyn was very welcoming. The house was being painted so there was a lot of activity going on, but Alleyn tried to minimize the impact on us. The cottage was well furnished, clean and quiet. The neighborhood was lovely, and Alleyn gave us good recommendations.
We enjoyed our stay with Alleyn. The cottage was private and roomy in a great part of town. We loved walking around the neighborhood and grabbing dinner just a few blocks away. Alleyn was wonderful and gave us good information to plan our day trip to Cannon Beach and the waterfalls. We definitely recommend her Garden Cottage.
I checked into this darling cottage for two nights for a work conference, then my husband joined me for two nights. It was a beautiful cottage, with every amenity we could have needed. There was plenty of parking, and a quick walk to very trendy shops and restaurants and pubs. This is a very tony area of Portland and very beautiful and safe feeling.
I walked to downtown one day too - it's about a 35 minute walk to downtown, or $10 cab ride. I would absolutely stay here again in a heart beat, and I couldn't recommend it more.
The bed is the most comfortable I have ever slept in!

About the Host, Alleyn
I live in the NW district close to the center of town because it is easily accessible from almost anywhere in Portland. Ten minutes from the airport. My great grandparents built homes in this neighborhood when it was first being developed and I have always loved this section of town. I moved to my present home in the Nob Hill district about 14 years ago.
I was an interior designer for many years and I also teach watercolor at the local community center.
I can't live without the ocean (an hour and a half drive from here), the mountains (an hour's drive), the beautiful Columbia gorge (1/2 hour) and Forest Park (minutes away).
I just saw the movie St Vincent with Bill Murray and loved it. Funny and charming.
I enjoy people from all walks of life and love to travel when given the chance.
