Said was a wonderful host, although not in Marrakech during our stay he immediately answered our questions and made sure everything was ready for our arrival. Amina and her daughter Sara, the neighbors next door, were also great. The riad was spacious and comfortable, with everything we needed. It is located in a middle-class large residential gated community right outside the Medina walls. It is about a half an hour walk from Jemaa el Fnaa, unless you get lost like we did on our first day, and ask a friendly looking fellow for directions. Next thing you know, you will be at a leather goods store trying to extricate yourself from being pressured to buy a leather pouffe... The next day we got a bit smarter, we took a taxi.
The pools at the complex are lovely, well maintained, good sized and beautiful with the palm trees surrounding them. We spent half a day just lolling about the pools, when we needed a break from the intensity of strolling along the souks and being treated like walking money signs... To be fair, I should add that we also met some nice locals as well.
There are a couple of handy grocery stores and snack bars at the complex and a travel agency. The nice guy working there helped us arrange a day-trip to the beautiful waterfalls of Ouzoud. The trip was the highlight of our vacation, despite the overpriced, mediocre lunch.
We would definitely stay at Said's if we go back to Marrakech and wholeheartedly recommend his place. If you don't want and/or can't afford the cultural vacuum of the luxury resorts outside town and wish to experience more of the local life, it is the place for you.
A nice complex, a good location close to the center of the city. Amazing neighbors. We had a problem arriving to the complex since there is no accurate address. The owner of the apartment was very nice and was available at any time needed.
The apartment was very big and clean and looked just like the photos. The pool was lovely and we swam every day. Said's neighbours were very helpful and friendly. I would recommend staying here to anyone. Said rang me before we arrived to check if we wanted picking up from the airport which was very helpful and made sure our stay went very smoothly.
The location is really good. We walked into the Medina most evenings and it was a nice walk and felt safe (Turn right onto the main road, cross wherever you can the cars and bikes will go round you if you remain constant... or try to follow a local across ;) ) Take the first entrance into the Medina and then keep on that path until you come to a 'Y' intersection (the left is in front of you and the right is a bit to the right), go to the right, then keep going in original direction until a main ish looking pathway with a pharmacy on the right hand corner, turn right, then you should end up on the main square.(Map in blog mentioned below!)
Saïd was a great host, despite not being physically around to help us he was extremely responsive to our queries and seems to be a genuine, nice guy.
The pools were well kept and the pool staff were very friendly and our charades were well interpreted lol (It is closed on Fridays, there are 2 sun chairs in the upstairs cupboard). The on site supermarkets were handy, they had fresh bread and snacks and essentials. We did a trip to a big supermarket (We wanted oil and balsamic to have with the bread and just to see what was what) then just went to the local ones.
There were a lot of TV channels, We found MTV, BBC World news and a film channel which I've unfortunately forgotten the number of to be the main English ones.
I am working on a blog page on Marrakech in general I can't put a link on here but you could search for it.

Hope that helps!
I'm happy it worked out to stay at Said's place. He was a gracious and communicative host, forwarding us detailed instructions on checking in, and arranging for his neighbors to welcome us in his absence.
The flat was clean, spacious, comfortable, and in a good location just outside the Medina, and with a convenience store, cafes and beautiful pools just outside the front door.
Wifi prima . Airco in woonruimte en in beide slaapkamers .Buurvrouw zeer behulpzaam . winkeltjes vlakbij .
