The Space

NOTE: Please read all of the details here before sending me any questions. I'm happy to address any that these details don't cover.

My calendar is always up to date. If the nights you want aren't available, you can let me know to put you on the list in case those open up, but otherwise the dates and prices are what you see.

Also, if nights you want are taken, go to my profile, click on my Dallas wish list, and you'll see Airbnb places from some of my Cedars neighbors; I know each and highly recommend their places.

That covered, the details on my apartment:

* A 1 bedroom, 1 bath apartment (500 sqft) located in The Cedars, a trendy neighborhood on the southern end of Downtown Dallas. The apartment is within walking distance of the Dallas Convention Center, the Sheraton, and the heart of Downtown Dallas. See the Guidebook with this listing for more things to see and do around The Cedars and Downtown Dallas.

* The building is 80 years old and was once home to a small hotel ("Hotel Newland") and a Piggly Wiggly grocery store. The building has since been converted to 14 one-bedroom apartments on the second floor, located above several private businesses on the first floor, including a couple art galleries.

Guest Access

* There is free on-street parking and usually spots available. There is a private, secured lot with limited space, so my landlord charges $20/night for access to it. Please let me know in advance if you want access to the lot.

* While pets are not allowed in the apartment, there is a nice pet hotel one block away. I can give you more details on this if you're interested.

* There is a coin-operated washer/dryer in the building, just outside the front door of the apartment.

* There is a queen-size, inflatable air bed available for an extra $20. This is covered with reservations for more than 2 guests.

* There are a coffee maker, toaster, pots, pans, and eating utensils should you wish to to cook meals at the apartment during your stay.

The Neighborhood

* The South Lamar entertainment district is a few blocks away; home to several bars, Opening Bell coffee shop, restaurants, entertainment venues, Southside on Lamar art galleries, etc.

* The most famous dive bar in Dallas (Lee Harvey's) is a few blocks up the street; great food and live music most weekends

* The heart of downtown Dallas (Main Street) is a 10-minute walk away

Getting around

* You can see from the map images with this listing that the apartment is just a few blocks from the Dallas Convention Center.

* The apartment is just a few blocks from the Cedars train station (G-gle Maps has Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) website routes and times).

* There is a DART bus stop (route #26) right outside the building.

* Downtown's eFrogs electric shuttle service will pick you up and take you door-to-door to and from anywhere downtown, for a small fee

  • This was a really nice spot! The hardwood floors and old architecture are really beautiful and the location is great if you're into the art scene. Mike was a more than wonderful host. He emailed me several recommendations for galleries and connected with me gallery owners he knew. The apartment was clean, the privacy was ideal, and the essentials were waiting as promised! This trip exceeded my expectations. Thanks, Mike!

  • Very nice, no-frills stay in a cool, old building. Comfy bed. Mike was just the right amount of responsive/attentive and hands-off. Would return & recommend. Thanks!

  • Mike was a great host! He was very helpful and responded very quickly to all my questions. The apartment had everything we needed and was a nice place to relax in after a day of exploring Dallas. Will recommend this place!

  • Mike was very helpful and attentive. He would text me and ensure that I was checked in okay and ask me if there was anything I needed. I was in Dallas for pleasure, and let me tell you, Dallas was HOT! Mike's place was nice and cool and a great sanctuary from the heat! The place was very clean and it had everything we needed for a short stay. I would definitely stay at this place again. If you are visiting from out of town and don't have transportation, take advantage of the dart and things like Uber and Lyft, that was really helpful when we stayed so that we didn't have to walk around in the humidity. There was only one minor problem, it was with the wifi. Since the place doesn't have a television, we brought our iPad's to watch movies on, but the internet would time out about every 20 minutes and it would say "check wifi connection", but it wasn't that big of a deal. It probably just needs to be reset, but I'm not very tech-friendly and probably would have made the situation worse, so I just dealt with it. Once it would time out, I would just hit "ok" on my iPad and restart the movie, no big deal at all.

  • In a few words: All the Essentials, Nothing More, Nothing Less. This was a great place to stay and was as described on the listing. Mike was a fantastic host, with check in and out being seamless. It was a great value for the money and afforded access to all of Dallas. We were very happy staying here and would definitely do it again!

  • My stay was very nice and comfortable! The apartment was just enough for my stay with all the essential amenities. Even though I didn't pay for parking, it was never a problem to find a spot directly across the street. This is a quaint building and pretty quiet and I was never bothered by any noise or other tenants. The room is spacious with tons of natural light and has a great little kitchen area. Mike also has great restaurant options in a booklet on the kitchen table for you to use and get around during your stay as well! He was quick to communicate and easy to work with. Overall, great stay!

  • Great apartment just south of the main downtown area. Mike was super helpful with info, directions, and responses to any text inquiries. Building is cute and cool with fans and a/c for those hot days, and very comfortable overall. We found parking very easily on the street, and used some of Mike's recommendations for local restaurants and public transport (whole binder-full!) Thanks, Mike!
