Enjoy a relaxing Asian-inspired oasis in southern Sydney.
I am open-minded & non-judgemental of different cultural backgrounds or sexual orientations, so you can relax & be yourself in my home.
I have one room available at AUD$60/night for one person or AUD$70/night for a couple.
The room has a lockable door for privacy, & contains a queen-size double bed with comfortable therapeutic mattress, small air-conditioner & large ceiling fan, built-in wardrobe, free wireless broadband internet + broadband ethernet cable (in case you don't have wireless capability), own mini fridge (in kitchen), & use of the living room, kitchen & outdoor BBQ courtyard.
This open-plan, Asian-inspired residence features separate lounge & dining areas, 1 bathroom & 2 separate toilets (one with heated seat & automatic bidet), courtyard with BBQ and outdoor furniture, & separate relaxing meditation garden.
*Non-smoking indoor environment, but smoking is possible in the outdoor courtyard.
We share a complimentary platter of antipasto & bottle of wine to welcome you and get to know each other upon your arrival.
A simple breakfast (muesli, toast, jam & tea/coffee/fruit juice) is complimentary each morning.
My modern & sunny home is in a quiet location - 20 minutes from Sydney International Airport (car pick up can be arranged for a small fee). If you have a car, you'll find plenty of safe, free street parking right in front of the house.
There's a large park 2 doors down the road, another 2 parks within 5 minutes walk, & a small village of shops with a great alfesco café 4 minutes walk from the front door.
My home is 2 minutes walk to bus stop, 8 minutes walk to train station, 10 minutes walk to numerous ethnic restaurants (list of recommendations available) & supermarket (open 6AM - 12 midnight) , 10 minutes walk to golf course, 10 minutes drive (or train ride) to 5 Cronulla beaches, 15 minutes walk to both Sutherland Public Hospital & Kareena Private Hospital, & 15 minutes drive to the historic Birthplace of Australia - Kurnell, where Captain Cook landed in 1770 on his 'voyage of discovery'. (If you are interested, I am happy to take you to Kurnell & explain the history of Australia's discovery on a guided walk.)
The E.G. Waterhouse National Camelia Gardens (free entry) are 15 minutes walk away, or 5 minutes by car.
It's also 20 minutes drive to the heritage-listed, 16,000 hectare Royal National Park - the world's second oldest National Park, after Yellowstone in USA. This is a great weekend retreat for bushwalking & 'getting back to nature'.
Symbio Wildlife Park (an open-air zoo where you can touch & play with various native Australian animals such as kangaroos, koalas, wombats etc.) is a 25-minute drive, or 40 minutes by train & bus from home.
NanTien Temple (南天寺) - the largest Buddhist temple in the southern hemisphere, & popular international tourist attraction - is a one-hour scenic drive from home to Wollongong. You can also have a delicious traditional Buddhist vegetarian lunch here. (If you don't have a car, I'm happy to take you there on a day trip & guide you through the temple complex.)
We speak 中文(普通话, 広東話, 福建話), 日本語, Bahasa Malaysia, French - and English, of course.
*My home has no provision for children unfortunately, so I can only accept adult guests.
You have a Queen-size bed with comfortable therapeutic mattress, small air-conditioner & large ceiling fan in your private room with lockable door, & your own mini-refrigerator in the kitchen. You have access to lots of Maps & Tourist Information books & pamphlets (in English, Chinese or Japanese)to plan your stay, wireless & cable broadband internet, the sitting room with digital TV, & the kitchen.
Interaction with Guests
As mentioned in my introduction, I enjoy meeting & interacting with my guests. I provide a bottle of wine & some canapés on the first night, so we can have a chat & get to know each other.
You are welcome to become 'part of the family' & share our evenings, watch TV or DVDs together, join me at my favourite restaurants for dinner, or come walking around the neighbourhood with my dog during the day.
I'm always available to give advice on sightseeing & tourist attractions in Sydney, great local restaurants or places that we 'locals' frequent, so please feel free to ask me anytime.
If you prefer to stay in your room - I respect your privacy. The amount of interaction is entirely your decision.
My home is located in a leafy, up-market area with tree-lined streets, & 3 parks within walking distance. The neighbourhood is quiet, & safe to walk at all hours of the day & night.
Public transport is very convenient, with access to all parts of Sydney & entertainment areas. Buses to Cronulla Beach or Miranda Westfield Shopping Mall are available at bus stops just 2 minutes' walk from my front door, & the city centre is easily accessible from the train station, which is 8 minutes' walk from my home.
Sutherland Public Hospital & Kareena Private hospital are both 15 minutes' walk from the front door, while Kogarah Public & Private Hospitals are 15 minutes by car, or 30 minutes by train.
*This is a non-smoking indoor environment, but smoking is possible in the outdoor areas (BBQ courtyard & meditation garden).
*As in most Asian homes, shoes are removed & placed in the shoe rack just inside the front door. Slippers are available for indoor use.
*You are welcome to use the kitchen facilities, crockery & cutlery, but please clean up after yourself, wash & dry crockery & cutlery after use, & return them to the same place.
*Please switch off the air-conditioner, ceiling fan, lights & power points when not in the room.
*No drugs or illicit substances on the premises please.
*Please don't bring unregistered friends back for the night.
*This home has no provision for children, so we can accept only adult guests.
We had a lovely stay with Michael, Alex and Misha.
This was the most personal Airbnb experience we had so far.
Michael and Alex went out of their way to make our stay as comfortable as possible. They prepared a delicious Australian welcomes diner for us the first night. They were extremely helpful.
We can only recommend this place to other travelers. Thank you for having us!
Michael and Alex were lovely people - very welcoming, hospitable and so helpful!! Michael helped me out with directions, and even made me a special asian tonic when I started getting a sore throat (it really helped!) I felt completely safe staying with them as a solo female traveller. There's a lock on your room door, but you really don't feel like you have to use it. Lovely friendly people, nice homey place, safe neighbourhood - I'd stay here again :) Thanks again so much for having me!!
From the moment we arrived at Michael's we felt at home. We found everything to make our week's stay as easy and as comfortable as possible and the atmosphere was relaxed and easy. As we had just moved to Sydney Michael proved to be a great source of information and his generosity in including us in several social events gave us the opportunity of making us feel even more at home. He is a really good cook and prepared a feast for us on our first night.
The house was clean and the bed was really comfortable. The station is just a short walk and from there a 10 minute train ride takes you to Cronulla and a lovely beach. In the other direction Central station is a 50 minute journey.
We really enjoyed our stay and would recommend Asian Inspired Oasis to anyone who wants to feel at home and among friends away from home and away from the city centre.
Michael made us feel most welcome on our arrival and during our 2 night stay. He is a wonderful host. Michael's home is neat, tidy and inviting. He and his nephew, Alex are interesting, well travelled guys and proud of their home and surrounds.
The location of the property was great for us as we were visiting family nearby.
We have stayed at Michael's place for 5 days. He took us for a trip to the place where Australia's story as we know it started. He told us a lot about Captain Cook , Sydney and Australia it self. He even cooked a dinner for us the night we came :). He was very active, heplfull and very friendly.
From the moment we stepped into Michael's home in Caringbah, we felt among friends.
For the next 5 days we had a wonderful time, sharing excellent dinners and meaningful conversations in the garden. Michael, Alex & Misha (the Husky dog) are perfect hosts, who will make you feel at home.
We highly recommend their place, for anyone interested in having a true multi-layered Sydney experience.
We will surly remain friends for a long time...
I'm an Australian, born in Sydney, but have lived & worked in China, France, Japan, South Korea & Vietnam, as well as travelled extensively for pleasure in many countries.
My main aim during my travels is not just to take a photo with a famous landmark, as so many tourist do, but to emerse myself in the local culture, experience daily life, & most importantly, make friends & communicate with the local inhabitants. This background has given me a love of travel, a hunger to experience various cultures, & a plethora of friends around the world - many of whom have come to visit me in Sydney.
I love meeting international guests from different cultural backgrounds & hearing about their lives back home, & thus decided to list my spare room on Airbnb. I hope that international travellers who find themselves in my home, will gain an insight into the daily lives of Australians, & grow to enjoy & love my hometown of Sydney.
