About this listing
We have lived in our beautiful Creole cottage since 1996. It's full of character and historic charm, it truly represents old New Orleans architecture and style. Step back in time but with all the conveniences of today.
Come and enjoy your stay at our 1830's Creole cottage, Montegut Manor, located just down the river from the French Quarter in the historic, trendy Bywater. The French Quarter is a mere mile away, a quick cab or bike ride or a 15 minute walk. If you want to just stay and enjoy the neighborhood we are a just a walk away from such great restaurants as Maurepas Foods, Jim's, Suis Generis, and Elizabeth's and just a mile from some cool bars like Bj's and Vaughan's Lounge and even closer to Mimi's and Love Lost Lounge.
Our upper floor apartment has a private entrance and plenty of on-street parking. The apartment sleeps 4-- 1 bedroom with a real double bed and a den with a fold open double bed couch.
The bedroom is off of the large, open kitchen/living area. This place is not "shotgun style" so everyone has their privacy. High ceilings, lots of windows, a small balcony, French doors, a claw foot tub, new kitchen completely furnished for cooking with halogen stove tops, refrigerator, microwave and coffee maker.
All with a complimentary bottle of wine to celebrate your stay in New Orleans...
My sister and I reside downstairs. We are native New Orleanians who have lived in this house since 1996 so we know the neighborhood as well as the city. We have a mask studio downstairs, New Orleans Masks, so check out our web page: (website hidden)
Thanks for checking out our home,
Guests have their own entrance to the property. A gated alley leading to the door which takes them to a gorgeous staircase to the second floor apartment.
Interaction with Guests
We are always available via text/phone to answer any questions or tend to any needs of our guests. However, if solitude is your style we will respect your privacy.
Our neighborhood, the Bywater, is one of the most popular areas of New Orleans. Located on the bend of the Mississippi River, this funky part of town is convenient to all the happenings downtown, Frenchmen Street, the French Quarter, most music festivals, as well as, a growing hip culture of trendy restaurants, shops and bars.
On street parking is available for those who drive/rent a car. There are public buses just a block away and we are walking/biking distance to most downtown locations. We are about one mile to the French Quarter.
Other Things to Note
The apartment is on the second floor.
No smoking but smoking allowed on balcony.
Laura thought of everything and we couldn't have been more pleased with our stay. Great location to walk to all of the best places in the Bywater & right on the main roads to get anywhere else we wanted to be. We loved the decor, the privacy, can't say enough good things about our stay!
Laura was an excellent host. The apartment was incredibly charming and spacious. The wine and beer in the fridge was definitely a nice touch. Although the house is old, it's been nicely renovated and was very clean. Plenty of extra blankets and sheets to make the couch or blow up mattress into a bed. Laura was also incredibly flexible as I had to change my trip from 2 nights to one and she was accommodating and responsive to my messages. In terms of location, the apartment is definitely in the Marigny and is a close walk to the Frenchmen and French quarter (maybe 20-30min) but using uber is definitely more recommended. I've been to New Orleans before and love the area since it's a little trendier/hipster but if you've never been to NO before it's not your "classic" experience. But if you want something unique with a great host, clean apartment and charming neighborhood definitely book this place!
We had a really nice stay at Montegut Manor - it felt like home. Laura welcomed our children, who also had a great time, and was very hospitable. Loved it and would love to stay there again next time in New Orleans!
Excellent stay in the bywater. Walking distance to Frenchmen street and the quarter. The space was very authentic and the air conditioning was a godsend. We had a spectacular stay, and would highly recommend this space to anyone looking to enjoy New Orleans but stay a little bit outside the hustle and bustle of more touristy neighborhoods. We had a great time. Thank you!
We had a great stay at the Montegut manor. Beautiful spacious 2nd floor apartment with private entrance and balcony.
Well stocked with everything you could want (towels, toiletries, wine opener and a list of local spots and places nearby).
Easy and efficient communications and key drop. (One of our light bulbs went out and Laura had it replaced in no time). We enjoyed our welcome drink that was provided by our hosts, very thoughtful and a wonderful way to start your vacation!
About 15min walking distance to Frenchman so taxis and bicycles are helpful after a long day.
Thank you very much. We enjoyed your home a lot.
Our time at the Montegut Manor was absolutely wonderful! The house itself was beautiful and Laura and her sister were warm, welcoming, and patient hosts. The neighborhood was the perfect spot for walking around, visiting local restaurants, bars, and cafes.
I stayed at Laura and Ann's Montegut Manor with two of my girlfriends to celebrate our 35th birthdays. We found the apartment cozy and quaint--it was exactly the kind of place we wanted to stay in for our first time to New Orleans. The house is about a 15 minute walk from the French Quarter and a $10 cab ride (we took cabs at night because we learned that the neighborhood, Bywater, is an up and coming neighborhood, but still has areas of great poverty--several people we met during the weekend said to be careful in the Bywater, but we didn't encounter any problems). The apartment comes with lots of little happy surprises (coffee and Kahlua, lots of toiletries, a list of places to visit) and Laura and Ann were super accessible with any questions that came up. They were also very accommodating with our early arrival and late departure times. Although guests were coming in after us, Ann let us keep our luggage in a safe place while we went to brunch, so we wouldn't have to bring it with us. This was a great experience and I would definitely recommend the Montegut Manor! Thanks Ann and Laura!
