Amazingly sunny apartment on the last floor of a 5-floor building in central Athens. The apartment is facing south-west and has an unobstructed view all around. Yes, you can see the Parthenon from the huge balcony while you are having your coffee. Quite spacious for a one-bedroom with a fully equipped kitchen - recently renovated - the apartment is a clean and friendly space to spent your time alone or with your friends or family. The building is located on a footway between Metaxourgeio and Keramikos, 3 minutes from Metaxourgeio underground station. At this price you must be already a bit suspicious! So what is the catch? Its not the cleanest or safest area in the world. It is sort of an unofficial red-light-district/china-town. Many people consider this the most up-coming area in Athens but given the current economic situation in Greece, upcoming is a 'relative' term. If you are the adventurous type, you will discover the hidden coffee shops where local actors and musicians hung out and you may be surprised by the low prices of these places. The area is full of theatres and alternative galleries-studios - not always visible to the naked eye. Walking to Monastiraki from here is a matter of 12 minutes and the commercial centre is within 15 minutes as well. Gazi, which is the main nightlife centre is within 10 minutes walking, but if you are coming back late, its safer to take a taxi. The building has a locking entrance and we have never had any safety issues with the apartment. In our 4 years of leaving here, we actually didn't have any problems with the neighbourhood except having our car broken into a couple of times. By the way, there is plenty of street-parking available around and a very reasonably priced gated parking about a minute away. Clean sheets are provided for the double bed in the bedroom and for the bed-sofa in the living room on request. Last but not least, the bathroom. It takes 10 minutes for the water to become hot for a luxurious bath and there is a laundry machine that you can use. You will find clean towels and everything but don't hesitate to ask for more. Please DO NOT throw any kind of paper in the toilet. It has a history of blocking quite easily.
If you are not off-put by the area that is not what one calls upscale, we are sure you will enjoy absolutely everything about the apartment.
Very nice flat, sunny with view on the Pathenon. The district is very "particular". I think is the China town of Athens, Iasonos street is divided into two parts. On one hand there are homeless and druk people, on the other side, the one where is the apartement, there are many suspected entries...I think there are prostitutes or drugs pusher. So I don't really suggest this flat for single women but always accompanied by at least one man.
The flat is very comfortable and silent.
Great place, great location. Nice furnishings. Speakers. Good kitchen. Balcony etc . Stupidly I failed to realise there was no internet. So that was disappointing. Other than that- great!!
Top-notch - and I mean TOP-NOTCH - apt in a very real, colourful part of Athens. Sofia is super nice to communicate with and the apt is one of the nicest I have ever seen. Really good energy, light and decoration and the terrace is unbeatable. Made me wonna move to Athens:)
Beautiful apartment with lovely furnishings and great balcony. Never felt unsafe in the area. Had a great stay and would recommend it!
Sophia, like her apartment is sort of improbable - they both believe that beauty will save the world, despite everything. Anyway, it saved me in Athens, which is a wonderful but distressingly sad city at the moment. Sophia's apartment is very beautiful, it's really perfect in fact, though it is in the middle, as she says of a - the? - red light district and the assorted mini districts that congregate around that. i had no problems and a lot of happiness.
Best airbnb experience so far! The appartment was spacious, sunny and very clean. We enjoyed having breakfast on the balcony with the view of the Akropoli. Athough we would've enjoyed the wifi in the appartment, the downstairs neighbors accomodated us pretty decently. Overall, amazing stay in Athens!
Nice and clean apartments with beautiful view on Acropolis from large and cozy terrace. Easy to get to most historical sights by metro.
Sofia and her friend Mylonas were very helpful during our stay.
The apartment in Metaxourgeio is great, spacious, sunny, and the terrace a real pleasure. Sofia is a wonderful host, helpful and willing to do the little things that really make a stay great. Vangelitsa, the woman who helps with the apartment and lives in the building, is an absolute angel. She's kindness itself. As are her daughters. The only problem is the neighbourhood. It's pretty run down and ruined. I stayed in the flat for a month and after a while the surroundings really got to me. A stay of a few days would have been better. You can ignore most of what's out there on the streets.
Sofias' place is really amasing, it is a warm and causy apartment with a very beautiful terace and a view of Acropolis. It is fully equipped, so you can cook in the evenings and enjoy your meals at the terace. We were four people, two couples, and place was big enough to accommodate all of us. Sofia was very friendly and had no problem when instead of just two of us we decaded to take a vacation with two other friends. Though we never met Sofia in person, her neighbours Vaggelitsa and Katarina were helpful and always available. The only small minus that apartment has is the neighbourhood, which is very alive in the nights and seems a bit dangerous (though nothing bad happened to any of us or to our car parked at the street). If you decide to visit Athens, don't be laisy and go to Lycabettus hill- it is the best place to see especially in the evening.
