112 year old notched Log Cabin in the middle of the rainforest,
1 mile from Volcanoes National Park on the Big Island of Hawaii.
There is a King Size Memory Foam Bed in the Master
and a Queen in the Loft Bedroom and Cable TV in Living Room & Master Bedroom.
Full Bath Main Level and a "throne" and corner sink on upper level for middle of the night business.
The kitchen is very well equipped, right down to a coffee bean grinder and a French Press as well as a regular coffee pot.
Gas stove, though oven does not work; therefore we have an
oversized toaster oven big enough to roast a small chicken!
There is a woodburning stove. Wood is provided for your stay.
A few good restaurants nearby as well as a general store right across the road!
With a mile of the National Park, hiking opportunities R endless.
There are also a few wonderful art galleries, including Volcano Garden Arts which serves lunch in itʻs cafe.
What a joy it was to move into the quirky log cabin from being in a hot urbanised city. Waking up surrounded by trees and birdsong was wonderful. We really enjoyed coming back to the cabin after a good days hiking, and putting on the log fire and playing games. The beds are super comfortable, there is ample space, plug sockets for those (city folk), wifi, nice hot shower with good pressure. We didn't use the kitchen much because there were great eating places just down the road. The Thai restaurant was really good (try the local beers out) and the cafe did fantastic breakfast. All in all we had a fantastic stay, so glad we weren't in a non-descriptt hotel room. Thank you Cynthia.
The Log cabin is very convenient to the volcanic Park and is a very interesting place to stay. A little spooky at first but charming. The cabin has plenty of space and bedding so would suit a large family or group of friends
Cynthia was very nice squeezing us in.
We had a very nice time. Staying at the cabin felt like staying at a location of a movie.
The living room is very cozy and charming. The fire place works well, and we needed it for both nights, as it rained quite a lot while we were there.
The place is very functional and has everything you need in the kitchen.
The kitchen and washroom look like a different house. It doesn't have the charm that the living room has, but it is functional and clean.
The bedrooms are on the second floor.
It is a very spacious house, and can accommodate a few people.
We had a great experience, and felt we were in a movie!
Of the three places we stayed in Hawaii, this was the best. My wife adored the log cabin. Rustic, yet modern, in the middle of a rainforest and literally 5 minutes from Volcano National Park. Cafés, restaurants, and a general store are on the corner/down the block (they are pricey and not the best food, but super convenient). There were some "characters" at the laundromat - but that somehow added to the mythology. The bedrooms aren't very private, and the second toilet is quite a thing to see ;) All in all an amazing place for a small family.
Wow! What a treat Cynthia's cabin is... so unique and fun! We stayed there three nights and enjoyed every moment. The location can't be beat, so close to Volcanoes Nat Park. It makes a perfect homebase for adventuring and exploring the area. The cabin itself is charming and cute as a button, as well as equipped with all you need for a lovely stay - from dishes and cooking utensils to coffee makers and coolers, we were pleasantly surprised to find it so well stocked. The woodwork and historic character are fantastic and unlike any other lodging you will find on island, guaranteed! It's rustic indeed, but only to the degree that it adds to the fantastic intrigue of the whole experience. The woodburning stove kept us nice and cozy, but there's plenty of space heaters too, just in case. Mornings were a bit "exhilarating" until my bf stoked up the fire and warmed up our little abode. The yard is blanketed in moss and feels like an enchanted forest, very neat. Upstairs bed was uncommonly comfy, and I'm pretty picky about mattresses. One of our favorite treats was talking to Cynthia and learning about the cabin's interesting past. She has great stories to share about it's history. I highly recommend you ask her about it... All around A+!! Our memories here will last a lifetime. Thanks Cynthia!!
Thank You for the stunning review. It has made me so happy to read each of these reviews as people really seem to "get" just how special the Cabin is and Yes, It IS the ONLY Authentic Notched Log Cabin in Hawaii. Others are kit homes, this one was one log at a time! @ 112 years old, Oh If Those Logs Could Speak!!! Aloha, Cynthia
The Log Cabin is utterly charming; my best Airbnb stay so far. Cynthia was a great host - she was very communicative and clear with directions. The cabin was super clean and cozy. I highly recommend this stay. Thanks, Cynthia.
This log cabin is just about my favorite place I ever stayed at! It is the perennial log cabin rich in history (112 years of it), but also chalk full of modern day conveniences. I was quite stunned to find everything from all sorts of blankets to flashlights to rain coats! Cynthia has decorated it perfectly also. Full of little details.I love a painting of a local bird species (Nene) done by a 7 year old! The photos on AirBnB don't really do this place justice. My only quibble is the front door has difficulty closing, but that in no way should keep you from renting this awesome place! It is worth every cent!
Cynthia covered it in her review. Her housekeeper and the surrogate hosts were lovely. Not much else to say since we didn't stay there. We did pay for the one night which was forwarded by Cynthia to the surrogate host for the stay. Thanks to all who made the stay pleasant, regardless of the situation.
Cynthia's Log Cabin is a wonderfully mythical, charming place minutes from the Volcano National Park. Cynthia was a wonderful host and made sure we had everything we would need to make our stay comfortable. We were so happy we had the chance to stay in this cozy cabin for a few nights during our travels! I highly recommend the Log Cabin to anyone planning to visit Hilo or Volcano, HI.
