This working farm is situated half way between Inverness and John O'Groats overlooking the village of Brora and has the grandeur of a stately residence, but the atmosphere of a relaxed home. We offer travellers a warm welcome, comfortable room and delicious breakfast.
Whether you're a returning visitor, enthusiastic cyclist, travelling Orkadian, golfer, hoping to catch some fish or just experieincing everything the beautiful Highlands has to offer for the fist time, Clynelish Farm will provide the perfect place to lay your head, relax and refuel.
This historic farmhouse was built by the Duke of Sutherland in 1865. Guests wind their way down the tree lined drive way to be greeted by an impressive front entrance. Situated next to the Distillery of the same name, this is the perfect place to start exploring Sutherland.
The village has a pub, chippy, hotel restaurant, bistro and Indian, so plenty of choice (relatively speaking) for a Highland village! Head East and you'll find Brora beach is one of the nicest in the highlands. Head West and wind your way up some of the beautiful glens in the area.
Your hosts can tell you the best place to see fish jump, best view of the beach, best place for seals and all sorts of other information that comes with having explored the area ourselves. This is a working family farm, with 80 suckler cows and 600 ewes, so during spring and early summer you'll no doubt witness some of natures miracles if you take a wander around the local lanes!
Rolling farmland with mountains and glens in one direction and the North Sea the other way.
Best to have a car or at least a bike. Trains and buses do run North to South 4 times a day.
Please advise arrival times - not before 4:30 without previous agreement.
This is a farmhouse B&B. The front door will be left open until 11pm and locked after that. Guests planning to be out later than that will be given a key. Breakfast from 7-9am, other times by prior arrangement. No dogs in the rooms, but they can sleep in the front porch. Bike storage available.
Victoria made us very welcome when we arrived in the evening. There is a comfortable lounge to relax in complete with hot drinks. The breakfast was exceptional with a wide choice of cooked options including mostly local produce. A lovely old house, full of character and interesting furnishings, in a beautiful setting.
Victoria is a wonderful hoste and made my wife and I very welcome and went out of her way to help us with directions to finding the house.
She really looked after us, including lighting a fire for us in the louge room and offering suggestions on local places of interest.
We had a lovely stay with Victoria. Loved the house. Great setting, loads of space and lovely fire in the lounge in the evenings. Victoria was a great host and went above and beyond eve doing our washing! We will hopefully be back one day. Highly recommended.
Both and my girlfriend and I had an absolutely lovely time; Victoria was very accommodating and the breakfast was fantastic! Thanks very much.
We had a fantastic stay with Victoria and have taken cards to pass on to our friends who often travel in Scotland. The location is great and easy to find using the information provided. Thanks again George and Dorette Louw, Cape Town, South Africa
Such a cool old house and Victoria is super sweet. Victoria turns out a great breakfast. This is good choice if you are looking for a quiet holiday. There aren't many options for local dinning but the Indian in Brora is very good and there is a grill that can be used in the garden, we had great success with prawns, salmon, sweet potato and courgette. We also enjoyed cold suppers by the warm fire in the sitting room with a dram of whisky.
A farmers wife running a B&B for the first time! Love travelling and know what I do and dont like so hope to provide you with a stay that you'll remember for all the right reasons! (Like an amazing breakfast!) Love my sport and being outdoors. Also really into food, it's provenance and trying to source stuff sustainably. Also love a good party (but promise we wont keep you awake - winter parties only!). Have trips to Italy, Paris and Australia planned for the year (once the season is done) so can't wait to start organising those!
