This working farm is situated half way between Inverness and John O'Groats overlooking the village of Brora and has the grandeur of a stately residence, but the atmosphere of a relaxed home. We offer travellers a warm welcome, comfortable room and delicious breakfast.
Whether you're a returning visitor, enthusiastic cyclist, travelling Orkadian, golfer, hoping to catch some fish or just experieincing everything the beautiful Highlands has to offer for the fist time, Clynelish Farm will provide the perfect place to lay your head, relax and refuel.
This historic farmhouse was built by the Duke of Sutherland in 1865. Guests wind their way down the tree lined drive way to be greeted by an impressive front entrance. Situated next to the Distillery of the same name, this is the perfect place to start exploring Sutherland.
The village has a pub, chippy, hotel restaurant and Indian, so plenty of choice (relatively speaking) for a Highland village! Head East and you'll find Brora beach is one of the nicest in the highlands. Head West and wind your way up some of the beautiful glens in the area.
Your hosts can tell you the best place to see fish jump, best view of the beach, best place for seals and all sorts of other information that comes with having explored the area ourselves. This is a working family farm, with 75 suckler cows and 700 ewes, so during spring and early summer you'll no doubt witness some of natures miracles if you take a wander around the local lanes!
There is a large and comfortable sitting room with open fire where guests can relax after dinner and help themselves to the local dram Clynelish Whisky.
Interaction with Guests
Depending on what's happening on the farm I can be in and out a bit - feeding lambs, moving cattle, helping with shearing - it never seems to end. Happy to leave you in peace or answer any queries you have about the area, house or farm.
Rolling farmland with mountains and glens in one direction and the North Sea the other way.
Best to have a car or at least a bike. Trains and buses do run North to South 4 times a day.
Please advise arrival times - not before 4:30 without previous agreement.
This is a farmhouse B&B. The front door will be left open until 11pm and locked after that. Guests planning to be out later than that will be given a key. Breakfast from 7-9am, other times by prior arrangement. No dogs in the rooms, but they can sleep in the front porch. Bike storage available.
I had a really lovely time at Clynelish Farm. Victoria is just the best hostess you could wish for. The house is gorgeous, the setting is beautiful and I couldn't have felt more welcome and relaxed. Oh, and the eggs (layed by Victoria's hens and cooked by her expert hand) are pretty spectacular! I will definitely be going back. Thank you, Victoria.
We had a warm and lovely room in a beautiful house and Victoria was welcoming, friendly and accommodating, despite being busy with the demands of a farm. An open fire in the living room in the evening and a beautiful breakfast in the morning - altogether luxurious.
Victoria most hospitable, great farm setting, fabulous beds, and lovely breakfast... Would love to have stayed longer!!!
Thanks, and looking forward to coming back
Magnífica casa con espléndidas vistas. Victoria ha acomodado con talento su casa para recibir huéspedes. Ofrece espléndidos desayunos en los que destacan los productos de su granja. Es un sitio altamente recomendable. Fue un acierto reservar allí.
Thank you for a wonderful stay. The house is lovely and well appointed. The location is convenient to the main roads but very quiet and peaceful.
Victoria was very sociable and helpful, welcoming us into a beautiful old home. The farm fresh breakfast was delicious!
Victoria made us very welcome when we arrived in the evening. There is a comfortable lounge to relax in complete with hot drinks. The breakfast was exceptional with a wide choice of cooked options including mostly local produce. A lovely old house, full of character and interesting furnishings, in a beautiful setting.
Victoria is a wonderful hoste and made my wife and I very welcome and went out of her way to help us with directions to finding the house.
She really looked after us, including lighting a fire for us in the louge room and offering suggestions on local places of interest.
