About this listing
A lovely room with central access to Tucson, includes Wifi, garden, indoor and outdoor kitchen in an artists home. Near restaurants, cafe, 15 minutes to University and downtown. Shared bathroom, and two friendly cats. For women only only.
The "pink room" is fully furnished with desk and linen in an artist's house in central Tucson, and rooms are available for WOMEN ONLY, as there is only one shared bathroom.
The University of Arizona is just 15 minutes away with easy access to buses. Around the corner is a friendly WIFI Cafe, a Mexican Bistro, a Polish restaurant, American breakfast cafe, bakery, a health food Chinese restaurant, a Tiki Bar, and of course a convenience store. Buses to downtown are half a block away, and beautiful Sabino Canyon is 20 minutes drive away. Shared bath, and a dining area as well as patio for additional dining (with an outdoor kitchen with barbeque). Full kitchen in the house, wifi internet. Please smoke outside if you're a smoker as there is no smoking allowed in the house. There are indoor cats (Lulu and Lucy), so if you have allergies or don't love cats this is not a home you would be comfortable in.
I have a big yard on a quiet street - but, this is central Tucson. There are neighbors dogs, occasional traffic. It's not pristine silence, just a quiet neighborhood.
I'm an artist with a 40 year career, and my work is to be found throughout my house. I'm very interested in sustainability and green technology, and I love to garden. I'm a vegetarian (although you don't need to be), and I enjoy meeting interesting people. I've been a world traveler myself, and I keep my prices affordable so that others can afford to travel as I've been able to. Privacy and quiet is important in the house, but so is a friendly atmosphere.
Tucson is a great place in the winter, and beautiful at any time of the year!
Guests have access to everything - two dining areas, kitchens, yard, movie collection, and two very friendly cats.
Interaction with Guests
I require a profile from guests, and will not rent to people who won't tell me something about themselves. It is also difficult to accept same day reservations, so generally I will only accept reservations with two days or more advance.
Friendliness and courtesy are very important to me and other guests, as well as respect for privacy.
I'm very central, the neighborhood is quiet and middle class, with pharmacy, convenience store, restaurants in walking distance. I think the Wifi cafe around the block (Crave Coffee) and Guilan Vegetarian Chinese restaurant (across Broadway) are especially great to have in the neighborhood.
buses can be had a block away, and bicycles are always good to have in Tucson.
Other Things to Note
We all lead busy lives, but I find that sometimes I am bothered by guests that, well, treat my home as a cheap motel, barely noticing that it is a home, with other people in it. If you have a need for extreme privacy such that saying hello in the morning, or sharing the kitchen with others bothers you.........please seek the impersonal autonomy of a motel, instead of a shared household.
I'm often busy myself, and can't always interact with guests as much as I would like to, but it is always my joy when I see guests connecting, sharing a meal, creating friendships.
If you smoke please smoke outside on the patio. Help yourself to coffee and tea at any time. Lulu and Lucy are indoor cats, so please be careful not to let them outside - they just aren't ready for the "great outdoors" yet!
Room was accurate to description. Had convenient notes on the house rules and neighborhood area. Convenient location and comfortable place to be, was glad to have stayed here during my stay in Tucson.
Lauren was welcoming and friendly and made sure I knew of all the local amenities. I particularly enjoyed the cozy and colorful patio. Thank you.
It was wonderful staying in Lauren's inviting, colorful home. The bed was cozy, the bathroom was clean, the neighborhood was quiet, walkable to late night food and early morning coffee, in an accessible location. I was out early and in late, but it was nice to unwind at end of day... and hang out with Lucy and Lulu. Lauren was helpful and welcoming. I really enjoyed my stay.
My stay at Lauren's was great. Lauren was a fine host and made me welcome.
My room was exactly as shown in photo, and conveniently located next to the bathroom. I (and the other guests) had free use of the house's common spaces and outdoor patio---all decorated with Lauren's art.
I was typically out during the day, but would sometimes come home to find an interesting conversation going on amongst other visitors, over glasses of wine--a pleasant and mellow ending to the day.
The neighborhood and area are fine.
I would stay at Lauren's again, and would definitely recommend it.
Lauren was a great host. The room was nice and quiet. She had a wonderful outdoors area for relaxation. It was a great place to stay. Thanks again Lauren.
Staying with Lauren is always enjoyable. The location is easy to find and is relatively quiet. The rooms and home (and cats) are inviting. Everything is as described. Lauren's a remarkable person - a gifted artist, world traveler, articulate communicator with a vast body of knowledge and wide variety of life experiences, and gracious host all rolled into one.
I really enjoyed staying in my colorful and cozy room at Lauren's home. She is a warm and welcoming host, and I liked the people I met who were also staying with her. It was a perfect place to be.

About the Host, Lauren
I'm a professional artist specializing in masks and community arts. I'm 63, love conversation and creativity. I'm a vegetarian, concerned with the environment, and have traveled internationally. I had so many good experiences with B&B's in the British Isles and Europe, where it is very traditional for families to open their homes, that I decided to try it myself. I had the same good experiences when I travelled in Indonesia, and stayed at "home stays".
Because there's a great wifi cafe around the corner, I no longer cook breakfast, but I do enjoy creating a bright, colorful, serene space for the women who come to visit, and am always happy to share what I know about Tucson and the Southwest. I love Arizona, especially its warm, sunny winters.
Renovating the 1962 Airstream trailor in the back yard, and creating a patio for it, has been my latest "art project"..........I love making things old new and inviting.
