About this listing
Our farmhouse is almost 200 years old. We are in a quiet spot yet nestled between Aberporth on the coast and Cardigan with all the amenities. A great location for walking the coastal path or visiting some of the best beaches in West Wales.
The house is on a quiet 8 acre small holding near the beautiful coastline of West Wales. 3 miles to Cardigan and about a 40 minute drive to the Ferry to Ireland at Fishguard. Cardigan has a Aldi, a Tesco, and Co-op supermarket A few miles to 6 beautiful sand beaches, two that are National Trust. Our local beach is Mwnt, listed as No. 1 in the Daily Mail's list in the Top Ten: Europe's Secret Beaches. You can easily walk to the Ceredigion Coastal Path. There is a small bedroom with 2 single beds, another small one with a double bed, and a larger one with a King Size bed. Two bathrooms (one for exclusive use by guests) and a shower in an outbuilding if you hate baths and want an invigorating experience. We have our own eggs if you like a big breakfast.
It is a 15 minute walk to the local bus stops if you are using public transport. In the summer and selected days in the winter there is the Cardi Bach, a small bus that serves the Coastal Path so you only need to walk one way. The Cardi Bach bus stop in Felinwynt is close to our drive. Closest train stations are Carmarthen or Aberystwyth. If you come by bus, happy to pick you up in Cardigan. If you like to cycle, we usually have a bike you can borrow. Plenty of good places to eat nearby and if you are on a tight budget you can cook in the kitchen. In season you can see what vegetables we have in the garden.
If the dates you want are booked, contact us we may have another bedroom available.
One of the most popular trips in Cardigan is a boat trip called Bay to Remember-On most trips you will see dolphins, seals and plenty of bird life.
As a side note, all money we earn from airbnb goes to a building fund so we can convert one of the stone barns into a holiday home to cater for families who have a disabled child. I work at a charity for disabled children and our youngest daughter (now 23) has a disability.
Guests are welcome to use the kitchen and the washing machine and dryer. Guests are also encouraged to make themselves at home.
Interaction with Guests
We are usually at home. Our daughter (23) is also living here. We are usually around as we need to care for the horses and chickens.
We live in a rural location although there is a convenience shop 2 miles away. You can walk to the coastal path from our house.
There is a bus stop via a footpath (10-15 minute walk) for an hourly daily service. When the Coastal bus is running, that makes 4 stops a day near the top of our drive. If you are using public transport to visit, last bus from Carmarthen to Cardigan is 6.15 pm. Also no buses on Sunday except the small coastal buses.
Other Things to Note
Unfortunately we do not take pets.
If you are a smoker you can smoke in the outside porch/conservatory. The cats are outside cats and the dog is a small poodle and does not shed hair. We ask our guests to take off their shoes when they go upstairs.
Many of our pillows and duvets have down and feather in them. If you have an allergy, let us know so we can use polyester pillows and duvets.
Great hospitality. Wonderful location. Alex and Renie are very flexible and understanding.
Our hosts were wonderful in all regards. Communication was terrific-timely, responsive, and accurate. They went put of their way to accommodate us and to assure we felt welcome and safe. Alex even drove out to meet us late at night when we were having difficulty finding the location. The accommodations were very pleasing-clean, well appointed, very light and homey. We felt immediately at home and at ease. Each morning, when we walked I to the kitchen we we found coffee and a lovely breakfast waiting for us (on the first morning Alex prepared tasty waffles). The location is extraordinary-a lovely old farm, stone house and assortment of barns, am impressive garden. We would love to have stayed on longer. We recommend this property highly.
My short stay with Renie and Alex and their family was completely wonderful. The farmhouse and it's surroundings are a paradise, perfect for switching off and relaxing. The bed was incredibly comfortable, the house warm and very inviting. The coast line is absolutely stunning and the whole area is peaceful and has some amazing coastal walks which Renie recommended. I felt right at home with Renie and Alex and that has everything to do with how welcoming they are. I wish I had stayed longer and I absolutely cannot wait to return soon!
Alex and Renie were lovely hosts. They gave us great information and their house is really beautiful and comfortable. We really enjoyed our visit and would certainly return. Our kids were welcome and they had wonderful advice to share with us about the area.
Alex, Renie and their family are the most welcoming hosts. Nothing was too much trouble and they gave us recommendations on where to go and where the best places were to eat. The rooms are clean, tastefully decorated and comfortable, as is the rest of the house. The breakfasts were varied and plentiful, fruit, yoghurt, eggs bacon cereal and homemade bread! Myself and my friend stayed for a week and we didn't want to leave. I cannot recommend this place and the hosts enough, thank you for a fantastic time.
Renie was a wonderful host. Such a beautiful and quiet home to tuck away for a night. Would be a great place to base yourself for a few days and explore the area around or relax. Warming and welcoming home and had everything you needed. Great to meet you Renie and would recommend to anyone travelling through.
We loved it on this beautiful farm with these kind, wonderful hosts. Comfy accommodations, delicious breakfast (including eggs from the chickens), and so conveniently located for exploring Southern Wales. Alex and Renie are very knowledgeable about the area and gave us great advice (we hiked and explored along the beach in Mwnt). It really felt like "home." We are so glad to have stayed here.

About the Host, Alex & Renie
After almost all the children left home (we have 9 of them) we wanted to share our home with others. Sometimes they come back so it can be a busy household at times. Originally from the USA, we have been in Britain since 1980. When our youngest was born with a disability, our life direction changed. We moved to Wales in 1997. I love my work at a charity for disabled children. We also are involved in disabled skiing.
We have met so many interesting and lovely people through hosting with airbnb. It has been good fun and a good excuse to keep the house tidy. Also the funds have helped us convert an old stone cow barn into a beautiful holiday let. We just finished it in September 2014 We like walking and cycling and exploring all the beautiful parts of the UK.
