We stayed at Hitomi-san's home for 3 night. There are some pros & cons of that. Let me start from positive things: location is really quiet, there is absolutely no traffic in the street (it's a dead end) so it's really convenient & peaceful. The neighbourhood is clean and nice for morning jogging. Hitomi doesn't speak English but she is really nice host. She uses communicator to communicate, always smile and is there to help you. She played with our kid when we were eating so we had some peace. You get breakfast (toast, cereal, jams - very tasty) and Hitomi does dinners too (basic but tasty). Some cons: the house is just messy and filthy. For me it wasn't a big thing and I could accept that level of mess but my wife didn't like it at all. Additionally, there are pile of things in the house (necessary or not) that create extra "mess" experience. Room you get is packed of Hitomi's things so you have a bed but absolutely no other space to unpack things from your laggage. There is one bathroom downstars you need to share so when you have 4 people at home it is still ok, but I can imagine that 6 at one time would be (website hidden) is away from main Kyoto station (5 stops) but you have JR which is good.
Hitomi (email hidden) and I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at her lovely home. Even though I didn't speak Japanese and Hitomi-san doesn't speak much English, she tried her best to make my stay a comfortable one. Dinner time with Hitomi-san was also enjoyable with the chance to eat some simple homecooked Japanese meals as well as to chat with other guests (email hidden).
We had a fair enough stay at Hitomis house (but mainly due to the wonderful other guests) but it didn't live up to the expectations we had after reading the enthusiastic description. Hitomi seemed disinterested and very businesslike, speaks hardly any English and bathroom and kitchen were untidy (she didn't clean them during the 3 days we were staying although there were 6 people living and it looked like it hadn't been cleaned for a while). As for the food: don't have high expectations, it's very simple (mostly ready made stuff) and there were always too little side dishes for the 6 of us.
To conclude: we didn't feel welcome at her house and we had the impression that she only made it for the money the whole time.
We came late for dinner but Hitomi-san waited up for us and prepared dinner for us anyway. Thanks alot Hitomi-san!! We had a pleasant stay.
I was very glad to stay at Hitomi's home. She is a very kind, helpful and friendly person. Hitomi′s cooking is also very good. Just the ticket after a long day of sight seeing. It is situated in a wonderful area. The beautiful town of Uji is only two stops away. Kyoto and Nara are also very close. I would definitely recommend Hitomi's home, and hope to stay there agin someday.
Hitomi (email hidden)e room is super comfortable, and her dinner is amazing! She is also very kind. It's more like visiting a friend. :-)
The house is a bit of a walk from the station, but it's a pleasant walk and a good way to see the local residential area of Kyoto.
The station is not too far from Gion, where most of the main attractions are.
Would recommend this place to anyone!
We stayed for 3 days at Hitomi's house and we had a memorable stay in the place. The house is in a quiet neighborhood but still very close to the JR station, and a few stations away from Fushimi Inari, Uji and Tofukuji, three of the prettiest places in Kyoto. Hitomi is very accomodating and the house is charming and very homey. You will feel that you just stayed in a relative's house as most of her kid's stuff, photos, etc, are still in the room. The only downside is that the place may need a bit of a clearing and some cleaning especially in the kitchen and bath areas as too many stuff still trap stubborn dirt and dust. But the place is (email hidden) to stay and relax after a busy day of going places. As the house sits on a higher area, you can view a pretty suburban neighborhood, perhaps the Takeda area. I recommend this place especially for big group of friends.
Hitomi (email hidden) and the location is nice. I arrived a little earlier than coordinated but I was able to enjoy the surrounding scenery. The space provided was more than adequate for a backpacker like me. I was only able to enjoy her cooking for one night but it was good. I met some travelers from Malaysia who were also staying with Hitomi and it was nice to share traveling stories. Overall I would highly recommend staying with her.
Hitomi is very kind and helpful. It was short but I have passed a good time in her house and the curry udon was amazing :-p
I had a wonderful stay with Hitomi! The location of her place is perfect for sightseeing and going to and from Kyoto station, and while I was sadly never home for her meals they looked delicious. She made things very easy, from picking me up at the train station to leaving helpful tips on notes around the house. While it's a private home it does have a bit of a hostel vibe due to the multiple rooms, and I got to meet some really nice other guests while I was there. Overall a great stay, thank you again!!
