Hitomi is the nicest person in the world. Really good cook too.
The house is very close to Kohata station on the JR Nara line.
Check in at 6pm is important as no one is there during the day.
For future visitors, Hitomi’s house is the last on the right in a cul-de-sac. It would have helped enormously to have known this, because even with a navigator, the taxi driver was at his wits end identifying our destination. Normally she picks her visitors up from the station.
It was good to be welcomed with a hot meal, somewhat mediocre the first night, better the second night (“nabe”), when a “repeater” arrived. The room was comfortable. I was unprepared for having to traipse downstairs to the toilet, but then maybe Hitomi was unprepared for such an elderly visitor as myself. She takes things in her stride. That she has many "repeaters" is in itself a recommendation.
The location was good for the purpose of my visit, within walking distance of JR (closest), Keihan and Subway line stations, all of which I used.
A great hostess and wonderful cook! Thanks Hitomi!!!
Hitomi was a very nice host, she was very accomodating.
The room is very comfortable and there are a lot of cartoon books there. And the food is very traditional Japanese food. I like it.
Hitomi left clear instructions about how to get to her home and was happy to pick us up at the station which is very close by. She was helpful and encouraged the use of Japanese pleasantries such a what to say before and after the meal. I liked this. Hitomi is very easy going and we were able to access the kitchen for tea etcetera when we wanted to.
Most reviewers comment on the tidiness of the house and cleanliness of the bathroom but I think the communal areas were about as clean as the student homes I shared when I was young.
Hitomi is a great host! She is a very lovely person and you can get understand her even without knowing any Japanese like me.
The location is extremely easy to find with (website hidden) maps and 10mins walk from station. Plenty of shops around for food.
I'd recommend this stay anytime.
Hitomi is an excellent host! She was nice enough to pick me up from the local train station on the night I arrived. It was great to find other travelers staying at her home too, as they made for good company during dinner. Speaking of which, Hitomi is a fantastic cook! I'm glad I was able to try some traditional Japanese foods, thanks to Hitomi. The room had plenty of space, the internet was very fast, and the bathroom was clean. I was also pleased that Hitomi gave us binders full of information on how to get around & what to do. She doesn't speak fluent English, but the home has an abundance of signs in English to get better acquainted. Her daughter also speaks good English. Overall, the only bad aspect was how short my stay was!
I enjoyed a wonderful stay with Hitomi-san and her beautiful daughters. All the stories about her being a great cook are true! I highly recommend Hitomi-san for anyone visiting Kyoto.
We stayed here for one night. The room had decent beds and had good heat. In the morning you can help yourself to breakfast. The location is quite suburban as there aren't many dining options nearby. However, the train station is conveniently close by.
