The Neighborhood

The history of the neighbourhood:
In Rome's Regal period (753-509 BC), the area across the Tiber belonged to the hostile Rome conquered it to gain control of and access to the river from both banks, but was not interested in building on that side of the river. In fact, the only connection between Trastevere and the rest of the city was a small wooden bridge called the Pons By the time of the Republic c. 509 BC, the number of sailors and fishermen making a living from the river had increased, and many had taken up residence in Trastevere. The area began to be considered part of the city under Augustus, who divided Rome into 14. Thanks to its partial isolation (it was "beyond the Tiber") and to the fact that its population had been multicultural since the ancient Roman period, the inhabitants of Trastevere, called Trasteverini, developed a culture of their common people of famous tenacity, pride and authenticity.

Modern Days:
Today Trastevere still maintains its character through the winding streets covered with sanpietrini (the typical pavement of Rome) overlooked medieval houses. The night is full of people, both Italian and foreign, thanks to the wealth of restaurants and pubs for every price range.
It is one of the most lively, characteristic and self-sufficient of the city. Offers typical Roman restaurants and pizzerias as well, markets as Portaportese, the largest and oldest flee market in Rome, workshops of every kind and elegant shops.
Another trait that characterizes the area are the monuments to Gioachino Belli and Trilussa, emblems Trastevere and The Tiber Island that is the only urban island of the Tiber in Rome city center.

Getting around

The neighborhood offers all the amenities you need, typical restaurants, organized tours, many pubs and clubs for nightlife, every Sunday morning there is PORTAPORTESE, the most famous and historic street market of Rome and a excellent sports center at 100 meters.

The connections with the city are excellent! The house has the Tram n°8 right under the house, that in a few minutes can connect you to the historic center, to the Vatican the train connects you in 10 minutes, Ghetto and the rest of the city. Then in 3 minutes walk, you arrive at the train station for the airport. If you are by car, there is a payment garage under the house or also free parking. The environment is very peaceful on a quiet street.

Other Things to Note

Please note that it is essential to communicate the time of your check-in and/or the time of your arrival in Rome and also communicate any delays. We also warn our guests that if we do not received the correct arrival time we will not respond to any inconvenience.

The Italian law requests for B&Bs to serve only typical Italian Breakfast, with all goods pre-packed with expiring date.
But for people who would like to also have an American breakfast (eggs, bacon, cheese, etc..) We have an agreement and discount with a restaurant near our home.

Not included in room price: EUR 2 city tax per person per night.

When you book, we'll send you an email of confirmation with all the informations and directions to arrive at Raphael Suite.

While you will stay in here, we are ready to give you the best and unforgettable stay.

  • My husband and I were only able to enjoy one night in the suite, however, while we were there Alec was extremely helpful and hospitable. The room was clean, nicely decorated and wonderful aircon with the warm summer Rome air. We even booked a night for my family on our return from our cruise so they could enjoy the suite as well. We look forward to future trips to Rome and possibly seeing more of the Trastevere area.

  • When my friend and I arrived at Alec's place we kept saying Wow! The place is so clean and beautiful. It is like a nice hotel! The place is decorated with angels and flowers--it is really beautiful. There were nicely folded towels for us, water in a nice glass, chocolate. We felt so welcomed. Alec gave us a tour upon arrival and even highlighted places to go on a map, which we used everyday as we traveled around Rome. He recommended places to eat too which we went to and had good experiences. One of our favorite things was breakfast. We had a nicely laid out table in the kitchen along with two other tables for the other two rooms in the house. It was lovely to be able to enjoy a nice breakfast before going into Rome. We drank coffee and tea and ate toast with Nutella and little pastries. Alec also printed out of Vatican tickets for us which was awesome! We thought we would have to go find a place to print then but he offered to print if we emailed it to him. So nice! Alec was always available and responded quickly if we had any questions. Highly recommend you stay at Alec's. The tram nearby takes you directly to the center of Rome by the coliseum. We rave about our stay here to our friends. Thank you for your hospitality Alec! We will never forget it! :-)

  • Alec (email hidden) - very accommodating, spoke very good English, gave us recommendations, very thorough in his explanation of the B&B, and very sweet. Right away when we walked into the B&B, the place smelled fresh and clean - it was very inviting. Our room was delightful - very clean, perfectly situated for travelers with clothing racks, fresh water, mints, shampoo and body cleanser - all special touches to make our stay comfortable. The breakfast was also quaint and lovely with fresh juice and coffee. The B&B is a short walk to the train station, Roma Trastevere, that took us all the way to FCO. Thank you Alec and Alex for a pleasant stay - we will be sure to book again on our return trip to Rome.
