The history of the neighbourhood:
In Rome's Regal period (753-509 BC), the area across the Tiber belonged to the hostile Rome conquered it to gain control of and access to the river from both banks, but was not interested in building on that side of the river. In fact, the only connection between Trastevere and the rest of the city was a small wooden bridge called the Pons By the time of the Republic c. 509 BC, the number of sailors and fishermen making a living from the river had increased, and many had taken up residence in Trastevere. The area began to be considered part of the city under Augustus, who divided Rome into 14. Thanks to its partial isolation (it was "beyond the Tiber") and to the fact that its population had been multicultural since the ancient Roman period, the inhabitants of Trastevere, called Trasteverini, developed a culture of their common people of famous tenacity, pride and authenticity.
Today Trastevere still maintains its character through the winding streets covered with sanpietrini (the typical pavement of Rome) overlooked medieval houses. The night is full of people, both Italian and foreign, thanks to the wealth of restaurants and pubs for every price range.
It is one of the most lively, characteristic and self-sufficient of the city. Offers typical Roman restaurants and pizzerias as well, markets as Portaportese, the largest and oldest flee market in Rome, workshops of every kind and elegant shops.
Another trait that characterizes the area are the monuments to Gioachino Belli and Trilussa, emblems Trastevere and The Tiber Island that is the only urban island of the Tiber in Rome city center.
The neighborhood offers all the amenities you need, typical restaurants, organized tours, many pubs and clubs for nightlife, every Sunday morning there is PORTAPORTESE, the most famous and historic street market of Rome and a excellent sports center at 100 meters.
The connections with the city are excellent! The house has the Tram n°8 right under the house, that in a few minutes can connect you to the historic center, to the Vatican the train connects you in 10 minutes, Ghetto and the rest of the city. Then in 3 minutes walk, you arrive at the train station for the airport. If you are by car, there is a payment garage under the house or also free parking. The environment is very peaceful on a quiet street.

Wonderful experience! This room is exactly as pictured and offered everything we needed - free (street) parking, air conditioning, private bathroom, wifi. It was in a great location and a quick drive to all that the city has to offer. The hosts gave us a map and offered advice regarding buses, restaurants, and best places to see. If you happen to be in Trastevere on a Sunday morning, check out the flea market - you can find some great bargains! I hope to make it back to Rome one day and would definitely stay here again! Thanks for the hospitality, guys!
Grazie ad Alexsandro per la Sua veloce disponibilità. Abbiamo fatto richiesta di mattina per la stessa sera e ha funzionato tutto bene. L'accoglienza è stata buona e ci ha spiegato tutto molto bene.
It was nice staying at Alexsandro's place. We got a map of Rome when we arrived, which was very helpful. I can only recommend his place.
Alexsandro is a great host. Apartment is very central, just 7 stops away from the airport with the Trenitalia train. My room was beyond clean, with tv and AC. Very happy to stay there. Thank you for everything.
This was my first time using Airbnb and I was somewhat disappointed, primarily for 2 reasons. The first was because of the airconditioning. Rome was very hot and the airconditioning is not built in but rather a mobile unit and it could not cope with the heat of August. The second is that there was no linen change during the 5 days we were at the b and b. Clearly this is an additional service but that was not explicit in the description of the property.
Alek has been very nice and kind with us. He gave us a lot of useful place and informations. His place was very clean, well organized, quiet, with a terrassa, and near a bus station. We definitely recommend this place!
