The Space

We tried out airbnb when we moved to Austin recently and found it to be an awesome experience. So we wanted to open up our new house to get to know people from other parts of the world. Our house is upgraded with engineered hard wood floors most of downstairs, tile in the kitchen and bathrooms and also lush carpeting in the bedrooms and upstairs. Also feel free to use our kitchen with granite countertops, gas and stainless steel appliances. We also have a pair of energy efficient front load washer and dryer for your needs.

If Austin doesn't keep you busy throughout the day, then you can unwind at home with my PS3, XBox360 with Kinect, high speed wifi, extended cable with 300+ channels (HBO, Cinemax, Showtime, Encore) and our home theater. You will also get to use a 7" Nexus tablet during your stay preloaded with apps including HBOGo to watch shows in the comfort in the room. You can connect your laptop to our 24" LCD monitor in the nook as your workspace. That's why you definitely won't be bored here staying here.

We have a few rooms available in our house. This room is the one with the queen memory foam bed. It has a 95% private bathroom next to it. This room is located downstairs. We are kids friendly and we also have a chocolate Labrador retriever.

Even though we might be strangers at first but we hope to become friends at the end of your stay. To see airbnb from our perspectives, you can check out our blog about our airbnb adventure in the social network f-b and search for "Cheah Welcome" or (f-b)/cheah.welcome

Thanks for reading this far. Let us know before you make a booking or if you intend to book many months in advance because we usually do not want to decline your reservation or cancel it in the last minute. We pride ourselves for 0 cancellations on any confirmed reservation so far because we know it would definitely jeopardize your Austin trip since you would have to scramble for other accommodations. Please feel free to contact us if you have any further questions. :)

The Neighborhood

Our house is in a brand new middle class subdivision and located just 5-10 mins walk to Southpark Meadows shopping center where you can find Target, Sams Club, Walmart, Best Buy, numerous dining options as well as a Cinemark cinema. It's also 10 minutes to South Congress, 15 minutes to the airport and 10-15 minutes to Austin Downtown. The infamous Austin traffic jam is not a big problem due to many access roads to and from downtown and this might add 5-10 more minutes to your journey depending on rush hour on weekdays. Weekends are a breeze.

Getting around

For those without cars, Rapid bus 801 with wifi and leaves every 15 minutes will get you to downtown within 30 mins for $1.50 one way. Bus 10 also gets you to the Greyhound bus station within 1 hour for $1.00. To get to the airport, you will take either bus 801/10 to downtown and then bus 100 to the airport (total cost ~$3).

  • For my husband and me it was the fist time using airbnb.com and it was a great experience.
Ernest and Lila have a very lovely home; I contact them and in just a few minutes we answered! The room and the bed were so comfy, bathroom is next to the bedroom very convent.
The neighborhood was save, near shops, easy to go a San Marcos outlet, San Antonio, New Fraundels, so we enjoy it.
However, we couldn't share much time with Ernest and Lila becouse of our shedule but they were kind people. We recommend your home,
    Thank you.

  • We were FIRST TIMERS using airbnb.com and it was an AWESOME great experience to meet Ernest and Lila! They have a very lovely home; they made us feel welcome like if we were family members that just meet for the first time! They accommodated us (even though we were a last minute unplanned stay) I contact them and in just a few hours we were greeted at the door!
The room was very comfy and clean, bathroom is next to the bedroom very convent. We stayed out until late and Max (their friendly dog) greeted us with a nice lick! :-)
We chatted in the morning over coffee and left with NEW FRIENDSHIP!
Looking forward on staying with them again!

  • Their address is incorrect on the Airbnb map. This makes their home appear right next to the express bus route into the city, when it's in fact a 15-minute walk to the bus stop. This makes it confusing when you give your cab directions from the airport and the Airbnb app sends you to the wrong place in the middle of a shopping mall.

Ernest and Lila are really nice and friendly. Unfortunately we were in and out a lot for SXSW and didn't grab a chance to share a meal, but that was our fault.

On the first night, we were exhausted, so we went to bed before midnight (early, for us). I thought I was having a fever dream when I heard children laughing all night, but it turned out to be their visiting extended family. Ernest had warned us they would be visiting as well, but did not know we'd hear them in the living room late at night, or that the kids stay up past midnight.

Our stay was a gamble whether or not we'd get sleep. The kids woke up early in the morning, as kids do, and would run around the house yelling and playing with the dog. We both got sick with fevers, which I can't help but think is linked to the lack of sleep.

We didn't really get to enjoy any of the amenities listed on this page because of the number of guests. We were basically contained to our small bedroom, as people were always in the other rooms.

Ernest and Lila are probably great hosts when there are fewer people staying. They clearly care about the guest experience and do cute things like write your name on a little chalkboard on your door.

    Response from Ernest & Lila:

Thanks Matt for honest feedback and of course we are always trying to improve to be better. Also thanks for the bottle of red wine you left for us which says maybe we did something good after all. To address your concerns. We can't control what airbnb puts in the map. Maybe our house is new (~1+ year) and the address is not defined correctly in whatever mapping system airbnb uses. But this also highlight how close it is to the center of the major shopping area from our house (~15 mins). Our house is in a middle class neighborhood (house prices almost hovering around $300k) and a bus stop next to our house would make the place noisy and undesirable. We didn't intend to have that many people in the house because of SXSW. However Lila's family hit hard times and contacted us at the last minute that they need to move to Austin due to a job. We promised all our guests that we would not cancel on their reservations because this would definitely jeopardize those who had planned for SXSW. That was why I had contacted you whether you have the right to cancel and that there could be potentially some noise from the kids. I agree that the first night they arrived from Nebraska, they were a bit hyper to see their beloved uncle and aunt and it took a few days of getting used to our house. We also tried to reach out to you to ensure that you are ok by sending messages to your airbnb account but I didn't get any reply. We also did not get to meet you to talk because you were out of the house early and came home in the wee hours of the morning which the lack of sleep might have caused the fevers. We also tried connecting with you by inviting you to dinner. The amenities are free for you to use if you have the time from your busy SXSW to socialize with us. There were others who were also here during SXSW like Cesar, Spencer and then Olivier who had no problems with Lila's family. In fact they gave glowing reviews about the quietness and Lila's family! To quote your private feedback to me: "Hi I appreciate that you didn't cancel on us with so many guests at your house, because we would have had nowhere to stay. Thanks for keeping our reservation, though, and take care." Like I said earlier, all these inputs will be taken into consideration to make us better airbnb hosts in the future. Family is very important to us and we had to help them when they wanted a place to stay because our values is to take care of family (and of course our airbnb guests whom we hope to become friends later) :)

We are new to Austin and tried Airbnb for the first time. It has been a wonderful opportunity to make new friends and we decided to host fellow travellers and those who are making Austin their new home. We love to travel and we've been to many countries. We can also be considered foodies because we really enjoy trying new and different types of cuisine. Ernest loves sports and is a tech geek whereas Lila is more of a homebody and loves to bake and cook. It has been a year since we became airbnb hosts and we have hosted guests from England, France, Germany, Spain, Switzerland, Holland, Poland, Malaysia, Indonesia, China, South Korea, Japan, Philippines, India, Bangladesh, Thailand, New Zealand, Brazil, Mexico, Chile and of course the many states of the USA. There's also young, old, married, kids, moving to Austin, Christians, Muslims, Mormons, Hindus, Buddhists, Jews, grandparents, moms, dads and many more. What a wonderful world we live in! If you are not in this list, then there's always a first and we embrace diversity. Hopefully you will enjoy our company as we embark on this adventure together. In the meantime, you can know more about us by checking out our webpage at f-b/cheah.welcome
