A charming apartment, made especially cozy by a recent remodeling. It is located on the first floor (without elevator) of an ancient building which dates back to the sixteenth century.
A very noiseless place right in the historical center of the city, in Urbana street, a road which two thousand years ago was named “Vicus Patricius” and throbbed with life during the Roman imperial government.
The “Suburra” – the previous name of this district located on the sloped of the Quirinale and Viminale hills spreading as far as Esquilino hill – was a suburban neighbourhood of ill-fame, but where also new freedmen and patricians built their houses, surrounded by taverns, brothels, prostitutes, thieves, traders and some respectable people. The heart of Rome was like this. During the Emperor Vespasian time the Colosseum was built down the eastern part of the city, while on the south you could admire the Arch of Tito and the temple of Nettuno on the west.
Today the district of Suburra is called “Rione Monti”, the first neighbourhood of the city, one of the few places where you can have a real, genuine breathing area.
The apartment consists of one room (even if it is divided in two parts by a corridor) perfectly acclimatized (air conditioned) and endowed with an elegant cooking alcove finished in travertine marble (where guests will find everything necessary for cooking).
The sleeping area has got a chestnut boiserie which has been made out of fifteenth century beam floors of the building that today homes the Teatro dei Satiri, previously cavea of the Teatro di Pompeo (the place where the Emperor Julius Caesar was murdered). Beside the double-bed there is an intermediate wooden floor fitted with a single bed.
The loft is made precious by the restoration work of the ancient sixteenth century beam ceiling, by the sight of bricks from the original construction, by a mosaic whose “unicum” you can see in the Museo Nazionale Romano di Palazzo Massimo alle Terme and by a modern liquid crystal television.
The bathroom, also finished in travertine marble, contains a shower and is well stocked with everything that guests need (towels, soap, shampoo).
The flat has also free wifi Internet connection!!!
The location of the apartment is exceptional as you are actually close to all the classic sights of Rome. The Colosseum and Fori Imperiali are no more than an easy five minute walk. Moreover the “Cavour” underground (subway) station is approximately one hundred meters far from the apartment.
In the immediate vicinity it’s worth a moment to linger along the narrow lanes of the Suburra, the church of Santa Pudenziana and its Byzantine mosaic (this is the oldest church in Rome, it dates back to the third century A.D.; the tradition says that Saint Peter might have found shelter there during the Christian persecution), the church of Santa Prassede and obviously the magnificent and imposing Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore.
The perfect starting point to best enjoy the best of the eternal city!

Try to respect Via Urbana silence and the quiet of this condominium, your neighbours will appreciate it very much.
You can use the kitchen as you want but please leave it in order for the next guests.
Please remember to turn the lights and the air conditioned off when you leave the flat: saving energy is a problem which regards everybody.
Try not to smoke in the flat. In this way you will protect the wooden ceiling and tapestry too. You will also respect people, perhaps not smokers, who will live the flat after you.
Grazie e buon soggiorno
Thank you and have a nice holiday
The flat is in a great location - walkable to attractions, Cavour metro station is close by and lots of restaurants and things to see in the neighbourhood. Alessandro was patient to tell us how to reach all the sites, recommended great places to eat and also provided some tasty biscuits in arrival. The flat was enough for two of us and just as the photos depicted, albeit the shower is a bit of a squeeze. All in all, a comfortable stay in a great location. Thanks Alessandro!
The appartment of Alessandro lies in a very nice and calm street near the historic center. He received us with delicous cookies in a very friendly way and gave us very good advices. So we were very happy with the appartment and its host.
Ale was a great host! Due to extenuating circumstances, I was delayed in meeting him for the key exchange. When I finally arrived, he was extremely professional and kind. The apartment was just perfect - quiet and private. The hot water kept on going and going, I stayed on my own. The place was very clean, tidy and everything you could need for a short stay. The photos are an accurate reflection of the apartment and of Ale's personality. Thanks Ale!
Alessandro gave us comprehensive directions to the flat, which he met us at promptly upon us letting him know we'd arrived. He had a map for us, which he circled his favorite restaurants, gelaterias, and things to do that are off the beaten path. He gave us tips on when to visit what. The apartment was clean and seemed to be very well renovated recently. When our train was departing later than we had planned, he allowed us a late check out which was a total life saver. He was always available for our questions and answered quickly. The location of the flat is UNPARALLELED. Fabulous, fabulous neighborhood that was far less touristy from other areas we'd walked through during our stay. Great food and gelato near by. Loved it and would return in a heart beat.
We loved our stay in Alessandro's apartment!
The apartment looks a bit bigger in the photos than it actually is but nonetheless it is big enough for a short stay in Rome!
The location is perfect, just 5-10 minutes to the Colloseum and Termini. Restaurants and small supermarkets (which are a bit expensive in my opinion - we preferred walking to other supermarkets) are in the same street. You can reach everything easily by foot. Just in case you don't want to walk: There even is a metro station at the end of the street.
There were just two things which bothered us a little bit.
The ceiling in general is high, but unfortunately the shower is really small. For me it wasn't a problem but for my boyfriend. I think that people taller than 1.90m will have problems showering. ;)
The street is quiet, but the people in the aparment aren't. Maybe we caught just a bad moment but I woke up every night because people stood outside the apartment and talked. :( But that isn't Alessandro's fault, of course. I just think that people who are sensitive to noise should know.
All in all I would recommend the apartment to people who want to see as much as possible of Rome because it really is in a perfect location and really cosy. :)
thanks for your review and of course we'll be happy to welcome you again in Rome anytime!
About the noise I am so sorry about that but probably you have been very unlucky during your stay... My flat faces a private courtier and not the street so usually It's a place wher you really can't hear any noice...
We had a very warm welcome. Alessandro met us on time and explained everything we needed to know.
The apartment was great . It was well equipped and very comfortable. The Location in Monti is fantastic and we liked that it was so quiet.
We always enjoy Rome.
Thank you Alessandro.

I am Alessandro, born in Rome and in love with my city... I am on call 24/7 and do my best to help people have the best experience possible during their stay. Archeology is my first passion, then food and good wine (my wife is a sommelier).
I think that living in Rome means… walking through the streets of history, where around every corner you come upon an architectural wonder, written about in history books, or a museum rich with original and important works of art – all objects of beauty that were created for your enjoyment by artists throughout more than two thousand years of history... discovering that, even during winter – when the entire peninsula is under snow, from the Alps to Sicily – you can enjoy sun-drenched spring-like days, guaranteed from the affectionate and protective embrace of the Abruzzo Apenines. Rome is the only city in Italy where the sun is always brilliant and the moderate temperatures never end....To experience the constant struggle between christianity and paganism; to worship the beauty of the eighteenth century churches while bowing to the graces of the ancient temples. ... To stop in at the local shops and chat for a while with real Romans who can be sceptical, are often impatient, but underneath it all they’re big-hearted.
What I wanna say is that no one of my guests should come away from a visit to Rome, eternal city of history and art, without having relished the experience completely, in the best way possible, and with a full understanding of her finest characteristics…
