Beautiful, opposite the Aeolian Islands with a beautiful view. Near the village of Capo d'Orlando, it is just 15 minutes by bicycle.
I did not meet Alessandra but her lovely parents, Francesco & Maria who were in Capo D'Orlando the weekend I arrived (they are usually also in Rome), went totally out of their way to ensure that I was well settled in the apartment and knew my way around. They collected me from the train station which was so helpful as the apartment is located a good 40 minute walk from the town of Capo D'Orlando. They took me to a supermarket (as I had arrived late and there aren't any supermarkets in the little hamlet where the apartment is located), and bought me some typical Sicilian cakes and arancini to enjoy (delicious). Maria even came and collected me the next day and gave me a good orientation walk around the town so I would know where everything was. I was so appreciative. The apartment is lovely, and has everything you might need to self cater. It was very clean and comfortable and has aircon/heating. Alessandra provided a bicycle as well which I used when not walking or catching the little local bus (infrequent but handy if you don't want to walk both ways into town). It is a gorgeous ride (or walk) into the town along a road that hugs the spectacular coastline with many beaches on the way (it is around 3.5kms). And the scenery is stunning!!!! The photo you see is the view from directly in front of the balcony/terrace, but you can see 4 of the Aeolian Islands lines up in a row from left to right - an obstructed view with amazing sunsets. It is a gorgeous place. There is a Michelen star restaurant not too far away, and a cute cafe/bar with spectacular views from their outside area less than a 10 minute walk the other way. The town of Capo D'Orlando is a lovely seaside town which apparently gets very busy in July/August, but I felt like I was the only foreigner there in April/May. I stayed almost two weeks and wanted somewhere peaceful with great views, near the beach and it was certainly that. The lovely lady (also Maria) who looks after the apartment onsite was incredibly helpful and generous with her time also and checked when she saw me that all was ok. Her gorgeous daughter speaks English so my fairly useless attempts at Italian were able to be assisted by Monica's great English. I was very sad to leave Capo D'Orlando and could highly recommend this apartment if you want to get away from it all. The apartment immediately next door was not rented for most of the time I was there so I had the ample terrace/balcony all to myself which was very peaceful. bello, bello, bello! Grazie mille.
