ZAK House 2
Our apartment - lovingly named ZAK House 2 - is known to be the the most modern condominium in Chiang Mai.
1. NEAR MODERN FACILITES
With Big C Extra just 3 mins walk from the condo, it doesn't get anymore convenient to shop for grocery, dine at restaurants or food court, run banking errands (with no fewer than 3 banks), get a haircut, browse at the bookshop, shop for snacks, anything! It's also a place where you can easily hop onto a "Red Bus" that will take you to the city centre for about 120baht.
2. NEAR OLD AND CHARMING STREETS
Surrounding our condo are streets where life moves at a languid pace. It's what I love most about living in Chiang Mai. Here, the hawkers of the roadside stalls are also friends to their customers - lots of smiling and free sampling of food. No English is spoken here, you will have to get by with hand gestures. I guarantee that you will cherish the sometimes funny memories of your communication methods with the locals.
The best time to explore the streets is morning. You will see the parents riding with 2, 3 or more kids on their motorbikes to school. Walk past temples and hear children chanting scriptures. Have breakfast like the locals, sitting at makeshift tables along the road and watch the villagers go about their business. Get lost in the maze of streets and then ask for directions, you will be amazed at how helpful the villagers are.
3. NIGHT MARKET
Every Thursday, Friday and Saturday night, the night market (only 2 mins walk away!) which comes alive from 5pm is the favourite hang out of the locals. You will hardly find any tourist here. Here, you get a real experience of Chiang Mai's culture and the locals' warmth hospitality; taste Northern Thailand's various mouth watering delicacies. (See pictures) Unlike the more commercial Night Bazaar and Sunday Market, there is no need for bargaining here because their prices are guaranteed to be the lowest.
Getting around is very convenient. We are located very near to Super Highway which pretty much links up the major sights of Chiang Mai. Going up north on the Super Highway brings you quickly to the famous Doi Suthep, Chiang Mai University, Chiang Mai Zoo, the vibrant Nimman Road, Kad Suan Kaew Shopping Mall, the Inner City (aka Walled City); traveling by bicycle or the mini red bus brings you to River Bin in 10 mins, Walled City in 15 mins; Chiang Mai Bus Station is 1km away, the railway station is 1.5km away, the airport is a quick 15-min drive away.
Old City - 15 mins
Airport - 15 mins
River Bin - 10 mins
Chiang Mai Train Station - 10 mins
Chiang Mai Bus Station - 5 mins

We didn't chat for a long time, but he was so helpful and very kind. They also invite my friend for joining their lunch. BTW,Gideon is very HANDSOME , we do really enjoy talking with him.He is just a guy who enjoy life.
This room was much more nicer than expected. The layout and finish of the room was first class. The location was not exactly close to the centre of town, only 10-15 mins by taxi, but thats what we wanted, some peace and quite. The shower in the bathroom had the most amazing water pressure and looked forward to them regularly as Chiang Mai was like a furnace the few days we were there. Fantastic aircon. The downstairs staff in the Zak Cafe were great, the food and service was second to none and very cheap. Do be aware as in the listing that electricity is not free and for the 3 days we were there using a lot of aircon, the bill was about 500baht = $16 for the 3 days, but very well worth it and very much needed. Maybe in there cooler period of winter you wouldn't need it. We would not hesitate to book again this wonderful apartment. Thanks guys
Mr. Koh, proprietor, is quite charming and personable, and his staff, led by "Dream", are wonderful. Mr. Koh accurately describes the neighborhood in his promotion. It was great being able to walk to the Big C Extra, the Living Index Mall, and all the restaurants and coffee places nearby. Even the fabulous new Central Festival Mall is within reasonable walking distance. And there's a new fashion mall under construction next to Big C. Songthaews are available to transport you to the Old City, and there is a free shuttle for the night markets.
The 2 rooms in this condo are bright and spacious, and there's a super comfortable convertible couch in the living room. The bed is comfortable, and the bathroom is ok although the shower needs cleaning and re-grouting.
So why do I say "not recommended"?
Problem 1: The bedroom faces South and West meaning that it gets the full force of the afternoon sun and heat. Instead of blackout curtains there are only very thin drapes installed making it all that much more stifling. Guests pay for electricity use over and above what is paid to AirBnB, so expect to shell out a lot of money to make the bedroom comfortable. I paid over 2300 baht extra even though I used the air conditioning very, very sparingly the 2 months I was there. Additionally, a screen is installed on only one of the 3 windows and doors in the condo so you do not really have the option of opening the windows to ventilate during Chiang Mai's cool overnights because of mosquitos.
2. Every morning from 6:30 for at least an hour, cigarette smoke from another nearby unit vents directly into the bedroom. 7 days a week. Truly annoying. And on 2 occasions there was marijuana smoke as well. The stench is only partially mitigated by running the air conditioning.
3. Mr. Koh advertises "cable" but it's not . It is the equivalent of a rooftop antenna for over-the-air broadcasts. So what you get is 8 or 9 channels, 2 of which are garbled, and none of which is in English. I did not come to Chiang Mai to watch TV, and I'm learning the Thai language, but I have not progressed to the point that I understand dialogue on TV. But it would have been nice to have watched a bit of TV at night while relaxing. Through an accommodation with AirBnB I installed True cable. I strongly recommended to Mr. Koh that he keep the cable after I checked out, even gifting him the 2000 baht deposit that I forfeited for canceling the contract under 6 months, but he declined. Somewhat spiteful, I thought.
Recommendations to the host: 1) Put in real cable. 2) Blackout drapes 3) Screens on the remaining windows/doors 4) Put in a washing machine where it had clearly been removed 5) Cleaning supplies 6) Better pool furniture 7) Better kitchen equipment 8) Drop the rental price.
I travelled to Chiang Mai with two friends and unfortunately we chose not to stay the whole visit at this apartment. This place may suit some but we chose to book alternate accommodations despite having a strict no refund police. Here are some of the reasons I was disappointed with the place:
1) The apartment is very bare bones. There was no hand soap, no shampoo and gels, only one roll of toilet paper, etc. I've stayed in a few apartments and all of them at least had a few essentials such as hand soap and toilet paper.
2) The place was a bit out of the way. Although there was a SuperC Extra nearby, there wasn't much else. It isn't too far from central Chiang Mai but the area isn't really developed and the commute required use of songthaew but weren't necessarily easy for late night travels. There is a free shuttle at 9:00 and 6:00 which may work but I felt quite constrained in terms of when I needed to make way in to the city. If you had a car or motorbike I don't think it would be an issue.
3) Minor things such as having to pay extra for a comforter (paid extra for 3 people) and apartment getting a little rundown especially the shower.
Overall, I don't think this (email hidden) to stay but I think it doesn't stand up to what it sells as and I think it is worth spending a little more and staying in a hotel in the city fringe.
Gideon's apartment is great and new. Just the location is a little bit far away from the old town. But there is a new shopping mall and Big C near the apartment. You can also eat and do shopping easily.
Besides, Gideon and his team is really nice. Everytime when I send them questions. They will reply me immediately.
Just unfortunately I could only stay in Chiang Mai for 2 days this time. Next time when I go to Chiang Mai. I will staying at Gideon's apartment again.
Ok. Nothing too fancy about the service.
We loved our stay at Gideons apartment. It was not far from town and walking distance to the Big C Extra as well as restaurants and markets. The apartment was very clean and the onsite staff and security are very helpful.
We have a great stay in Jingsaw Condo.
I would like to special thanks Gideon for being our translator all the time while we have problem in thai language :) and also thanks your team for all their help and guide, they are really very friendly. Please also thanks aunty chef for her fantastic food, we really enjoy it very much :)
My goodness, Chiang Mai (email hidden)e room itself was huge and wonderful. Modern with spacious comfort, this place was a steal for the price. I will definitely stay here again if given the chance
Gideon and his staff were so friendly and a pleasure to get to know. We very much enjoyed (email hidden) as it gave us a real flavor for the locals and how they live. We visited the local market (we were the only tourists there!!) and tried amazing food for super cheap. We explored the neighborhood and made sure to try the coffee shop Gideon mentioned...amazing! I'm so glad we were able to get a laid back feel of everyday life while at the same time, being close enough to experience many other Chiangmai must-sees! It's a short ride to Old City - just be sure to catch the 6:00 free shuttle from the place!
Overall, would highly recommend staying here if you want to immerse yourself in local culture. Thank you Gideon and staff! Hope to visit again one day!
