Sutri is an unspoiled cathedral town with three millennia of history, one hour from down town Rome, and little more than one hour from Rome's two airports. Founded by Etruscans, the hilltop town became an ancient Roman stronghold. In the Middle Ages, when our tower 'La Rocca' was built, a pope was elected here. Nearby sightseeing attractions include Rome itself, Etruscan ruins at Tarquinia and Cerveteri, and the Umbrian towns of Orvieto, Perugia, Spoleto and Assisi. Swimming, wind-surfing and sailing are available at the clean Lake Bracciano (11 km-6 m.) while the sea is just 50 km. (31 miles) away. Nearby clubs offer tennis and golf at a course built in 1990. The house is a listed property (national monument) with panoramic views of rolling countryside. For walkers, there are fine parks, including by the house a picturesque small fountain park, once the town's outdoor 'lavatoio' (laundry).
Other Activities: Outstanding thermal spa Terme dei Papi, Viterbo
Golf: Sutri's l8-hole golf course was built in 1990 for an international competition.

About the Host, Judith
From Cleveland, Ohio, I am a Northwestern University graduate and have lived decades in Rome, where I work as an author and journalist specializing in politics and the cultural heritage. It would be hard to live without enjoying a morning cappuccino in one of our half dozen friendly lakefront cafes - we live an hour north of Rome - where we read the newspaper, people watch and chat. With its deep culture, Italy is endlessly fascinating for music, the arts and archaeology, my specialty.
