  • We stayed with Claudia and her husband while touring the island of St. Lucia. We made a stop in Gros Islet while we were up north and we're glad we did. We wanted to stay close to the street party on Friday night, and you definitely cannot get much closer than where they are (about a block from where they set up the stage and speakers, and the food is everywhere around there). It does get very loud, but I popped in some earplugs and slept just fine. If you want an authentic St. Lucian experience then this is definitely the place to stay. They also helped us out with ideas for places to eat and see, and we were pleasantly surprised with every suggestion (probably one of our favorite days was spent at a beach we had not planned to go to that they suggested we check out). If you do stay here, there is a band- Pantime Steel Orchestra- that practices in the town and they allowed us to sit in and watch; it was so cool, and if you go there definitely stop in and watch them. To summarize: this is a busy spot in the middle of everything, so if you want that then it's a good place to stay; if you are looking for something more quiet and fancy then this probably isn't the place for you. I would say it is not for everyone- just read the reviews and you should be able to tell if it is or not. We knew what we were signing up for and were pleased with what we got. It is within walking distance to food, Jump Up! street party, a block from a small beach, a few minutes drive to Rodney Bay and Pigeon Island areas, and definitely gives you a glimpse at what it would be like to live in the northern St. Lucian town for a very affordable price. Thanks again for your hospitality, Claudia!

  • Laura and I had a good time at Claudia's Guest House. Friday night there is a street party that is quite nice, so if you are into partying this is definitely the right place to stay, because you do not need to worry about a taxi getting somewhere else. During the day it was easy to go by local buses to Castries and then further on. What we really liked about Gros Islet as well was, that just across from Claudia there is a nice restaurant and around the corner is a local fish barbecue that was absolutely fantastic! Very fresh grilled fish, we loved it :)!! It was nice to experience the local way of living with Claudia and her husband and Claudia told us many interesting stories about living in St. Lucia, about politics and the culture. So for us it was a really nice experience. However if you want a luxurious house where it is quite in the evening, this might not be right for you. The room and bathroom however, was very clean.

  • We had a great time in Gros Islet, it was our favourite town on the Island. PJ, Claudia's husband, is usually around to give tips and advice. You can walk along the beach to Pigeon Island. Gros Islet is accessible by bus from Castries.

The house is right in the centre of Gros Islet and is 2 minutes walk from the beach. Gros Islet is a party town on Friday night so people are drinking until 4am. All the locals we met were very friendly and we had a great New Year's Eve dancing with them. As you are staying in the centre of the town you need to accept the noise from cockerels crowing and people drinking and talking until the early hours.

Claudia kindly did our washing. The wi fi signal was good. The room was basic and clean and has a floor mounted fan and a kettle. We had access to a fridge in the garden to keep drinks in.

  • If you want to feel the Caribbean Lifestyle, just go to Claudia and PJ!!! There you be a part of the daily life. They are nice, friendly and uncomplicated people. Claudia can give you good advices and tips, if you don't know really where to go. She booked a boat trip for us, so it was easy to go there. PJ (email hidden)cian and he knows his hood :-) very good and everybody knows PJ. That's a good thing.
The room was nice and clean, as decribed. Wifi worked good. The area was cool. Everything like Supermarket, Bars, Beach, etc. was close. And for the party you don't have to wait for the weekend, but Friday and Saturday Nights are special. Even we got no car and it was so easy for us to went with the local bus to the Mall, Castries, Marina, etc. and the bus wasn't expensive.
We enjoyed to share some authentic moments with Claudia and PJ and we will never forget our last evening with grilled fish and roasted breadfruit in the garden! It was delicious!
Last but not least, it was a very big pleasure to met Sam (a friend of PJ and Claudia). We hope to see them all again sometime!

  • Claudia and PJ are wonderful hosts. They are extremely welcoming and hospitable. Claudia went above and beyond by arranging for us to take a lovely boat tour in St. Lucia and also contacted someone for us to rent bikes from. She even did our laundry!! If your interests are to experience local culture then staying with Claudia is ideal. I recommend staying with Claudia if you want to be close to the action, party, and beach. If you do not like loud music and all night long entertainment then Claudia's is not the place for you.
