We were most pleased with our Vesuvius Beach on Saltspring cottage experience. The cottage was most welcoming and beautifully maintained. We loved being so close to the water front and watching the boats and ferry arrive. We wish we could have stayed longer.
The cottage was the quintessential summer cottage - complete with board games! Some things were a bit rickety - like the sliding door that didn't slide very easily and the dining room table - which we made functional with a paperback! Beds were super comfy and the place was relatively clean - but could have used a once over to ensure light bulbs were working. The beach was amazing- warm for swimming and peaceful in morning and late evening. Thanks for sharing your cottage!
So not sure what you did to the sliding door, but it worked fine when I went to clean. Light switches can be a bit tricky in a funky old building. Unfortunately you missed a couple, or would have had a brighter dinner. If bulbs had really been blown out, a quick look in the front hall closet would have found you new ones. since we have extras of almost everything within easy access in the house.
Too bad about the table though as I thought I had fixed it. Another look, sitting on the floor underneath showed me where I went wrong.
Unfortunate about you breaking the clock and about spilling coffee on the bedding. Hopefully a second wash with bleach will get the stain out.
Our host communicated with me through email and explained clearly the necessary information for opening up and locking up their cottage. They provide a book with instructions and the house was well outfitted with linens, towels, games and a kitchen supplies. We felt very comfortable and enjoyed our stay.
Joanna's idea of tidy and mine are definitely not on the same page! Blinds and gates left open, a dirty mat at the kitchen door, towels on the back deck, a blueberry squished on the kitchen floor, dirty dishes and food on the counter, an egg sized rock on the living room hardwood. They may have swept, but left the broom sitting out in the hall. I had to wash several towels twice as they were not clean the first time! It felt like they left in a hurry.
I always clean after guests leave my home- floors, bathroom, kitchen counters, linens, fridge and stove, but I expect guests to wipe up their spills and respect that this is not a hotel.
It took me six hours to clean the house to my satisfaction versus the normal three hours!
I was extremely disappointed and will not welcome them here again.
This was a beautiful spot to go relax and enjoy the ocean. The cottage was fully stocked with everything we needed and was great to wanted down the path to the ocean.
We brought my cousin and her young family from Alberta. They were blown away by the island and the cottage was a comfortable and homey retreat. Lots of room. Hosts were kind and helpful.
Would love to go back.
Kathy was great to deal with via e-mail, we didn't actually meet but all descriptions and instructions about the house were accurate and well documented. We loved the house, it was perfect for our needs and felt like being at a summer cottage. The kitchen was fully stocked with everything you would need to cook including spices etc.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at your sunny home. They were so quick to respond to any questions that we had, and made us feel very comfortable. We made some great meals thanks to the fully equipped kitchen and relaxed in the beautiful garden and private beach access.
We had a great visit to Saltspring. The cottage is clean, comfy and cosy. We felt instantly at home and enjoyed the games, garden and going down to the beach. This is a great cottage for couples and families alike. We will hopefully be back soon. Thanks Jen, Steve, Jilly & Marin :-)
About the Host, Kathy
I am a Self-employed interior design consultant and mother of three. My husband and I enjoy the relaxed life on Vancouver Island where we can hike, bike, and kayak almost year round. Vesuvius beach is a relaxing place to go for our family. As soon as you step on to the island you are in a slower paced world.
I love to garden, but the deer eat everything here unless you have a seven foot fence, so I've gone to the easy care alternative of learning to paint them instead.
