Donny's place was a great choice. Their home is warm relatively easy to reach from two Metro Stops and I felt safe walking there at night. Donny was very communicative and flexible about my arrival time (though it ended up being around 11pm). When I arrived we chatted about his long history in DC and he gave me a brief tour (including bottled water he had available). As for the basics: the room was clean, cozy, and quiet and I had a bathroom to myself. I expect to be back.
After two bad experiences in DC (both in Columbia Heights), I started to think that I would have never found a good accommodation. Fortunately, I met Donny and his beautiful family and I had the opportunity to spend 4 weeks in their apartment. First of all, I would like to emphasize how gentle and polite is the Gonzalez Family. They are always available and they make you feel at home. Secondly, the room that they offer is cozy and comfortable and, in my view, it is much better than how it looks like in the pictures. Thirdly, the apartment is located in a very good area. Either if you come to DC for vacation purposes or if you come to work (as in my case), Columbia Heights has all you need. On the one hand, it is a good area where to live (it has many shops and restaurants) and, on the other one, it is very well linked with the center of the city thanks both to the metro and to the numerous buses that it is possible to take on the 16th Street.
Finally, I definitely recommend this place and I am sure that if I will have the possibility to come back to DC one day, I will ask Donny if his bedroom is available.
Nice neighborhood, 10 minutes to the metro, convenient location; Donny and his family are great, kind, easygoing, receptive, nice to be around, and respectful.
It was my first airbnb experience and couldn't have been any better. I had a perfect time at Donny's place. The room is cosy and the whole house beautiful and comfortable. I had my own bathroom and my own little fridge. I could use the well equipped kitchen and the beautiful living and dining room. Donny is a wonderful host and very helpful. He even gave me a cell that I could use during my stay. Together with his wife Rose he made me feel like being part of the family. There was enough privacy but we also spend some time together, had great talkings and a lot of laughing. I hope to come back one day but will definitely stay in contact with them. I highly recommend staying at Donny's place!
I had a great experience staying at Donny's beautiful home for my summer in DC. The room is clean with soft carpet, sufficient closet space, and provided sheets/hangers/shelving. Also, I had a good amount of privacy since the room is located on the first floor, with my own bathroom in the basement (the family's rooms are on the second floor). Donny and his wife Hong were such wonderful hosts! Very hospitable, accommodating, and polite. They gave me full use of the kitchen and laundry machines. Anything I needed, I just sent a text and Donny always responded within minutes. Also, the location was convenient to lots of great nightlife, Target, supermarket, pharmacies, etc.
I stayed with Donny and his wife for about 6 weeks and they were very friendly, helpful and accommodating.
A very good host, I can recommend this place!
About the Host, Donny
I'm 31 years old lifelong proud Washingtonian. I love politics, news worthy news, debates, watching movies, drinking socially, and dancing bachata. I live with my wife Rose and toddler Donovan.
My favorite travel destination is Dominican Republic as I'm 100% Dominican by blood. I enjoy eating a lot but have recently been on a health binge - working out, eating better, cooking more and staying healthy.
I have a small business and have been married for a year now. I own a painting company, enjoy to travel and live life to the fullest. I enjoy family and friends very much and am an easy going, but serious when I have to be person.
As a host, I'm polite and friendly. I give you your space. Initially I get info like references and actually call them to verify. I am an optimist, but I know we live in a world of many untrustworthy people. SO, I do my due diligence to protect my home and family. But, after that, mi casa es tu casa.
I'm not new to renting rooms; I've done it in the past. But now, I'm only renting to 1 maybe two guests at a time - and only for short periods of time.
My life motto is DREAM, ORGANIZE, ACCOMPLISH. I feel that one should dream big, if you plan the steps and execute them well, you will always accomplish your goals.
Thanks for checking out my listing. Peace.
