***Ideally seeking house swap to London from Jan-Jun 2014 (or part thereof)***
My apartment is a semi-converted warehouse apartment in the middle of the cool Sydney suburb of Surry Hills. The building (external and hallways) is covered in graffiti and has many artists and musicians living and working in here - a really great community.
The suburb of Surry Hills is full of cafes, shops, bars and restaurants. It is directly across the road from Central Station (trains) so can easily be reached from the airport. It is also a short walk from the CBD and Chinatown - perfect location.
The apartment is essentially one big open room (90 sqm floorspace; 5m high ceilings) with queen sized bed, big lounge and beanbags, movie projector (for DVDs but no TV), awesome sound system, dining table, big kitchen and big bathroom.
The apartment can be a bit cool in winter but I have 2 heaters and you can borrow my slippers. In summer there is a good breeze and I have fans.

Cool place, close to the office which was the main thing. Dan is a good guy and the place has lots of character. I even found a spray paint can and wrote my name in the lift! ... Shower pressure was good in the bathroom.
Our stay at the warehouse apartment was excellent! It's such a beautiful space and in such a fun building as well. The location was really central and Dan gave us some great recommendations on where to go. We ended up having lunch at Orto Trading Company- highly recommended, dinner at Mexican Food and Liqour and then breakfast at Reuben Hills- and all of them were walking distance to the apartment. The building feels very safe and secure and I was a big fan of all the graffiti covering the stairway and elevator. The apartment has everything you need- the only thing we couldn't find were the cables to hook up the projector but we may have looked in the wrong place. Great place for a couple or solo traveller- highly recommended!
Stayed in Dan's sweet warehouse flat for a week, found myself wishing it was my own! The place is quirky and full of character, the building and its occupants are super cool, and you just can't beat the location. Managed to lock myself out the morning of checkout, Dan was very accommodating, found a friend in the building to let me in, and let me check out at my leisure. Cool place, cool dude, perfect location. Would highly recommend to anyone!
I stayed in Dan's apartment for over three weeks and really enjoyed my time there. The apartment is beautiful, spacious and bright and in a really unique building. Great location, walking distance to lots of good restaurants and bars. Dan was very accommodating and I really felt at home during my stay.
I really enjoyed my stay in this amazing spacious apartment. It's completely the opposite of a corporate apartment, I love it!! The apartment was very clean and tidy when I came in. Communication with host Dan was excellent, he really wants to make yourself home by using his wifi connection, spices in the kitchen, projector to watch movies on the wall etc. really appreciated! It was a bit chilly sometimes (winter period) - the 2 heaters will help a bit.
I will definitely come back next time I'm in Sydney!
Thanks Dan :-)
This place was awesome! Right in the middle of Surry hills, right next to the central station (which takes you everywhere in Sydney) and a few blocks away from Orto Trading Co., an amazing breakfast place. The loft is beautiful and has everything you need for a great stay in Sydney. Thanks Dan!
Dan's creative space (apartment doesn't do it justice) is definitely a welcome alternative to the hotel scene. It was very spacious, very accommodating and very different.
I booked this place for my sister and she found it very easy to get around town. However, her favourite part was watching movies on Dan's projector.
If you're visiting Sydney and want a place that's close to the city, public transport and is a bit eclectic than get in contact with Dan's place.
Dan's warehouse flat is an awesome open space in an AMAZING warehouse type building. The building itself is filled with creatives and happens to be covered in graffiti on any and every surface. Just walking to and from dans flat is a journey through creative inspiration.
And Dans flat itself, is a fantastic, clean and modern space, yet still raw with exposed beams, industrial bathroom, and original old windows and random bits of building. Great view, nice bed, strong shower, visually open and inspiring space with a bad ass stereo to play bangin' music. In short I didn't want to leave.
Although I only saw Dan for about 10 minutes, he was very friendly and helpful, especially considering my 9pm train was delayed and didn't arrive until nearly 11pm.
In short, highly recommended if you want to a unique experience staying a raw and modern warehouse in the heart of Sydney. I would come back in a heartbeat.
Dan has a cool, converted warehouse space in a cool building in a cool neighborhood. The building is covered in graffiti and full of artists, musicians, designers, etc. It's walkable to lots fo cool bars (the Clock Bar was our favorite) and restaurants, and central enough to everything else that cab rides were cheap. The bed was comfortable, the temperature was nice (we were there in the Summer).
All that said, you should know that the space is a bit raw. The bathroom is especially so (sinks had nonstop water going, bathroom windows don't close, bathtub up on supports, etc.). Basically a dude lives in this apartment (quite evident from the ratio of booze to food and the algae in the Brita pitcher). So, not a great place for your honeymoon, but if you don't care much about everything being "nice" then you'll be fine.
Dan's apartment is great. It's very close to the central train station. I just picked up a 1 week 'go anywhere' ticket and I could make my way into town anytime I wanted in a matter of minutes. The place is big and has that warehousey charm. The outer building it's in doesn't instill confidence, but honestly everyone I ran into seemed friendly, and the music and art that occurred while I was there was really cool.
