The Space

Modern, newly built garden house. Clean, simple, quiet and relaxing space. Earth-plastered walls, built-in window seat with tatami mat. Heated concrete floor, skylights and large french doors overlooking the garden. One open room and one separate bathroom, about 300 sqft. No kitchen, but a mini-fridge, electric water kettle and coffee maker, with necessary dishes for your morning brew.
Close to Dwight St/ San Pablo Ave shops, restaurants, and coffee shops. Easy street parking and a separate entrance through the garden.
This is the space you need to "get away from it all". Situated in a quiet, friendly, residential neighborhood, the studio faces a lush garden. Enjoy an evening outside by the fire pit, watch the hummingbirds in the morning or just relax with a book under the skylights. The studio is a perfect retreat if you need to be close to the city (any city in the Bay Area really) but want to come home to a quiet space.
Easy walking to several pleasant coffee shops, restaurants and shops. Take public transportation to San Francisco or use your car for day trips in and around the Bay Area.

  • I had a wonderful time in Nina s beautiful studio surrounded by peace and flowers.
Nina is an exquisite host , very caring and generous.

  • Nina's garden studio is not only environmentally sustainable but also stunning. It is exactly as pictured on airbnb. It was impeccably clean, and we were welcomed with fresh fruit, chocolate, and wine. We rented a car, but it's certainly walking distance from restaurants and other attractions. Most definitely a place I would recommend to those looking for accommodations in Berkeley. It is obvious Nina really takes pride in the studio and her garden.

  • I can't say enough good things about Nina and her studio. My mother stayed a week, and enjoyed her cup of tea in the mornings looking into the wintry garden. Everything is very cosy, especially the heated floors (why doesn't everyone in the Bay Area have these??). The light from the skylights, the lovely charcoal drawings on the wall, the window seat and comfy bed - everything was great. We would love the chance to have other family members stay here when they visit, and hope to see Nina around the neighborhood. Thanks for everything, Nina!

  • Nina's garden studio was the perfect place for me in Berkeley!
I experienced it by sunshine (the bench and "lounge area" outside the studio is perfect for a nap or reading a book while getting kissed by the sun) and also by rain: but believe me, even then there's no better place to stay! You can listen to the raindrops falling on the roof lights and feel cozy and comfortable inside your romantic little hideaway.
It's very quiet and convenient! You can easily get downtown Berkely by bus or a 15-20 minute walk. The BART station takes you directly in the heart of San Francisco.
Nina is the perfect host! Everything was set up nicely and there was nothing left to be desired! A 5-star airbnb experience!
    I can highly recommend!!

  • The place is great in a nice and quiet area of Berkeley, very clean and tidy. Nina is super nice, sharing her local knowledge which was particularly helpful with our settling in Berkeley. The tatami bed is so awesome that we got one for ourselves (if you have back problems, stay a week at Nina's and you won't regret it).

  • We had a truly wonderful stay in Berkeley! The studio is cozy and spacious and very quiet. It's a very convenient walk away from BART so getting around was easy. We will definitely stay here again if we travel to the Bay area again.

  • I enjoyed my stay in the garden retreat. Though I did not meet Nina, she was responsive via text throughout my stay. I found the space to be very clean, peaceful, spacious enough for 1 or 2, and aesthetically pleasing.

  • It was a pleasure to stay at this wonderful place, very beautiful indoors and outdoors in the garden. The small house is nice and quiet, and had everything we needed. Plenty of storage, and perfect for reading or looking out at the garden. Very good location near cafes and coffee shops, the university, and just across the bridge from San Francisco.

I have been living in the Bay Area for the past 17 years, both in San Francisco and now in Berkeley. I own and manage a Green Building retail store in Berkeley - or maybe I should say that it owns me! Many of the features in my studio are earth-inspired: Natural clay and lime plasters, thick wall insulation and radiant floor heat for warmth and comfort. Whenever I have free time I love the outdoors, be it a hike in Point Reyes, riding my bike around town or working in my backyard. I am also studying chinese medicine and acupuncture, (very part time) just for fun and interest.
