Modern, newly built garden house. Clean, simple, quiet and relaxing space. Earth-plastered walls, built-in window seat with tatami mat. Heated concrete floor, skylights and large french doors overlooking the garden. One open room and one separate bathroom, about 300 sqft. No kitchen, but a mini-fridge, electric water kettle and coffee maker, with necessary dishes for your morning brew.
Close to Dwight St/ San Pablo Ave shops, restaurants, and coffee shops. Easy street parking and a separate entrance through the garden.
This is the space you need to "get away from it all". Situated in a quiet, friendly, residential neighborhood, the studio faces a lush garden. Enjoy an evening outside by the fire pit, watch the hummingbirds in the morning or just relax with a book under the skylights. The studio is a perfect retreat if you need to be close to the city (any city in the Bay Area really) but want to come home to a quiet space.
Easy walking to several pleasant coffee shops, restaurants and shops. Take public transportation to San Francisco or use your car for day trips in and around the Bay Area.
The nearest BART station (with connections to San Francisco and all over the Bay Area) is North Berkeley BART. It takes 15-20 minutes, about 1 mile on foot to get there. There are several bus stops in a 2-3 block distance, part of the Berkeley and East Bay transit system.
Other Things to Note
The bed had a foam mattress and it measures 56" by 78".
This is a quiet space, so no loud parties please. No smoking in the studio, but it's ok in the garden. Please be respectful of the space and the surrounding garden.
There is a $50 cleaning fee.
Check-in after 4pm, check-out before 11am.
Nina was a wonderful host: very communicative and helpful. Her garden studio is cozy and remote. We had a lovely visit, and would definitely recommend this spot to anyone looking to explore Berkeley, Oakland, and the rest of the Bay Area!
Nina is a great host and her garden studio is an oasis. The studio is conveniently located within walking distance of shops and cafes, and is as clean, spacious, and warm as it looks in her photos. It's built with good materials, as well as solid and crisp doors and windows. The reading nook was a favorite. Nina clearly put a lot of care into the space. The studio was stocked with coffee, tea, a variety of cold drinks, and fruit (all organic!). When she found that I'm vegan, she came right back with a carton of oat milk. You can't ask for a more thoughtful host and beautiful place.
Splendidly beautiful studio in a wonderful neighborhood that has easy parking, is eminently walkable and near many excellent and affordable restaurants. Nina was an excellent host and the studio is a marvel of superb design, beautiful colors, textures integrated with the site. I counted ten different kinds of flowers - and as many trees besides. We had coffee and chocolate and slept soundly. We will be back!
Awesome studio, awesome neighborhood with easy parking. The place is exactly like the pictures, and a kind host.
Nina's studio retreat is absolutely beautiful and impeccably clean. My daughter is at school at Berkeley and we had a wonderful retreat together. It is a lovely residential neighborhood close to many restaurants, a coffee shop and a fabulous salvage store. Unfortunately we did not have a chance to meet Nina, but she was in email contact. I highly recommend her Garden Studio Retreat.
Nina was a delightful host and her private garden studio retreat is lovely. Highly recommended.
this is a seriously beautiful, extremely clean, zen-like space.
nina was great with (email hidden)d goes out of her way
to provide a great stay (i.e. the room is stocked with fruit,
water, cocowater, chocolates, etc). i could not recommend this
place more highly.
I have been living in the Bay Area for the past 18 years, both in San Francisco and now in Berkeley. I own and manage a Green Building retail store in Berkeley - or maybe I should say that it owns me! Many of the features in my studio are earth-inspired: Natural clay and lime plasters, thick wall insulation and radiant floor heat for warmth and comfort.
Whenever I have free time I love the outdoors, be it a hike in Point Reyes, riding my bike around town or working in my backyard. I am also studying chinese medicine and acupuncture, (very part time) just for fun and interest.
