Modern, newly built garden house. Clean, simple, quiet and relaxing space. Earth-plastered walls, built-in window seat with tatami mat. Heated concrete floor, skylights and large french doors overlooking the garden. One open room and one separate bathroom, about 300 sqft. No kitchen, but a mini-fridge, electric water kettle and coffee maker, with necessary dishes for your morning brew.
Close to Dwight St/ San Pablo Ave shops, restaurants, and coffee shops. Easy street parking and a separate entrance through the garden.
This is the space you need to "get away from it all". Situated in a quiet, friendly, residential neighborhood, the studio faces a lush garden. Enjoy an evening outside by the fire pit, watch the hummingbirds in the morning or just relax with a book under the skylights. The studio is a perfect retreat if you need to be close to the city (any city in the Bay Area really) but want to come home to a quiet space.
Easy walking to several pleasant coffee shops, restaurants and shops. Take public transportation to San Francisco or use your car for day trips in and around the Bay Area.
The nearest BART station (with connections to San Francisco and all over the Bay Area) is North Berkeley BART. It takes 15-20 minutes, about 1 mile on foot to get there. There are several bus stops in a 2-3 block distance, part of the Berkeley and East Bay transit system.
Other Things to Note
The bed had a foam mattress and it measures 56" by 78".
This is a quiet space, so no loud parties please. No smoking in the studio, but it's ok in the garden. Please be respectful of the space and the surrounding garden.
There is a $50 cleaning fee.
Check-in after 4pm, check-out before 11am.
Nina was a delightful host and her private garden studio retreat is lovely. Highly recommended.
this is a seriously beautiful, extremely clean, zen-like space.
nina was great with (email hidden)d goes out of her way
to provide a great stay (i.e. the room is stocked with fruit,
water, cocowater, chocolates, etc). i could not recommend this
place more highly.
Nina's private garden studio retreat was even prettier in person than in the photographs on the website, with abundant natural light, even on grey Berkeley winter days. The neighborhood is colorful and charming and the neighbors I met were all very friendly and helpful. The backyard garden was lush and green even in the depths of northern California winter (with frost warnings some nights). The fridge was stocked with milk for my coffee, and a basket of fresh fruit awaited my arrival. The radiant floor heating was delightful; I was always comfortable, regardless of the outside temperature.
While Nina was out of town for most of my stay, she was a lovely host, and I am glad to be able to meet her as I was packing to leave. I would definitely stay here again!
The backyard studio was perfect! We wanted to be back in my hometown for Thanksgiving but have space from family and friends. Nina was warm and hospitable. Everytime I asked for something she was quick to respond. She had fruit, milk, chocolate, and wine waiting for us. It was warm and set up exactly as posted on AirBnB. The neighborhood is a great residential neighborhood only 2 blocks from my favorite brunch spot (Quince Cafe). It was a 5 min drive from where I grew up so it felt easy and comfortable. I would definitely return!
Wonderful studio to stay in. Very clean and peaceful interior, and beautiful garden to relax outside in. Nina was a great host, and made sure there were no problems. I definitely recommend!
Nina was gracious and accommodating from the get go. She seems to enjoy " hosting", which, of course makes it great for her guests. The location was great. Very central to UC, the Marina, etc. Her studio is so "smart". Every detail is in place. A cozy place, indeed, to end up a day filled with local activity. Her lovely garden and sitting area are welcoming, as well. I "stole" a few apples from her apple espalier...with Nina's urging, of course. Just delicious.
This was our second time staying with Nina--she is a wonderful host--personable, friendly, and generous (we always appreciate the bottle of wine, wide selection of teas, and fruit basket) and we can't imagine staying anywhere else in Berkeley. Her studio apt is in a classic Berkeley neighborhood within easy walking distance to a variety of cafés and restaurants. We look forward to staying with her again, the next time we visit the Bay Area.
I have been living in the Bay Area for the past 18 years, both in San Francisco and now in Berkeley. I own and manage a Green Building retail store in Berkeley - or maybe I should say that it owns me! Many of the features in my studio are earth-inspired: Natural clay and lime plasters, thick wall insulation and radiant floor heat for warmth and comfort.
Whenever I have free time I love the outdoors, be it a hike in Point Reyes, riding my bike around town or working in my backyard. I am also studying chinese medicine and acupuncture, (very part time) just for fun and interest.
