The Space

We would love to share our spare bedroom with guests from all over the world! It's a 10' by 13' room, just steps away from a bathroom with tub and shower. The room has some closet and drawer space and internet access. Our kitchen and dining room are open and cheery. We also have a three season room off the side of the house which (email hidden) to relax and read. We have a fireplace in the living room that we can light for your winter pleasure! (We burn REAL wood!) Central AC keeps the house cool in the summer.

While here you can expect peace and quiet and beautiful sunsets out the front window of our living room. We offer coffee and tea in the morning.

Our neighborhood is a mix of farm fields and wooded lots. The Hershey Medical Center is 2 and a half miles away. Hershey town, with the attractions of the amusement park, gardens, outlet mall, the Giant Center, and many restaurants is just 3 miles away. To the west, on the way to Harrisburg, Indian Echo Caverns (email hidden) for family fun. Just 10 miles from Hershey there is the interesting capital city of Harrisburg including spots such as "City Island" in the middle of the Susquehanna River. To the east, at about 30 minutes drive are the Renaissance Fair, Lancaster attractions with the Sight and Sound theater and the lovely Amish community.

The Capital Area Transit bus makes many stops in Hershey. The nearest train stations are in Harrisburg or Elizabethtown. The Harrisburg International airport is 10 miles from our house.

Our "place" is unique in that my husband and I speak French, so we welcome French speakers! There are not too many French speakers in this "neck of the woods"!

Interaction with Guests

We enjoy interacting with our guests, but we are sensitive to their different personalities and we try not to be too talkative!

The Neighborhood

We like that our neighborhood is kind of out in the country, but just a block away, one can take a walk in a calm residential neighborhood on a less busy road than where our house is located.

  • They were fantastic! Very friendly and accommodating and understanding of my schedule. I was also concerned about disturbing them by leaving early and coming in late, but they were very polite about it saying they never even heard me and made me feel right at home. Would definitely stay with them again.

  • - Wonderful experience staying at the Haken retreat.

-During my three night stay there I was worried I would be disturbing them, returning late. But Debra and Paul did not seem to mind. Instead they were worried they had disturbed my sleep the next morning - which never happend (they were always very peaceful).

    - This home is very cozy and safe.

    - If you are looking to experience a peaceful homely place with lots of green to sooth the eyes, then this would be the ideal place to stay during Spring.

  • We greatly enjoyed our short stop at the Haken Haven. The home is very cozy and decorated beautifully. They have a little herb garden growing at the side of their house and it was very cute to see on a gorgeous morning sunrise. We thought the bed was the most comfortable we've ever slept in! The distance from the main Hershey attractions is a nice 10 minute drive (email hidden) view, quiet and quaint. Would recommend the stay.

  • Debra and Paul were wonderful hosts! It was my first time using Air BnB and I didn't know what to expect. They were both very accommodating and welcoming. I had a great time in their lovely home, chatting by their fireplace. I would highly recommend it to everyone!

  • Deb was a very nice host who actually take extra effort to go online to look for more information that we required. She even printed a discount coupon for us to use for a place we wanted to visit. Love her Apple pie she prepared for my family. A very nice house to stay with a nice fire place and a very nice host.

  • My boyfriend and I had a wonderful stay at Haken Haven! Debra and Paul were super nice and even baked my boyfriend a mini cake because we were staying over his birthday weekend. Also, the bed we stayed in was the most comfortable bed ever. Highly recommended!

About
My husband and I have enjoyed having many different people stay with us over the 40 years of our marriage. For 25 years we lived and worked in Africa and our lives have been enriched by many different people from all over the world. We love learning about other cultures and hearing the stories of other peoples' lives. One of our favorite countries is Switzerland where we lived for 18 months to learn French. Some of our favorite movies are "The Terminal", "Salt", "Argo", "Slumdog Millionaire, and "Les Miz". We enjoy different types of music and food...and playing with our grandchildren! We love to laugh and try to see the bright side of every situation!
