About this listing
We would love to share our spare bedroom with guests from all over the world! It's a 10' by 13' room, just steps away from a bathroom with tub and shower. The room has some closet and drawer space and internet access. Our kitchen and dining room are open and cheery. We also have a three season room off the side of the house which is a lovely space to relax and read. We have a fireplace in the living room that we can light for your winter pleasure! (We burn REAL wood!) Central AC keeps the house cool in the summer.
While here you can expect peace and quiet and beautiful sunsets out the front window of our living room. We offer coffee and tea in the morning.
Our neighborhood is a mix of farm fields and wooded lots. The Hershey Medical Center is 2 and a half miles away. Hershey town, with the attractions of the amusement park, gardens, outlet mall, the Giant Center, and many restaurants is just 3 miles away. To the west, on the way to Harrisburg, Indian Echo Caverns is a great place for family fun. Just 10 miles from Hershey there is the interesting capital city of Harrisburg including spots such as "City Island" in the middle of the Susquehanna River. To the east, at about 30 minutes drive are the Renaissance Fair, Lancaster attractions with the Sight and Sound theater and the lovely Amish community.
The Capital Area Transit bus makes many stops in Hershey. The nearest train stations are in Harrisburg or Elizabethtown. The Harrisburg International airport is 10 miles from our house.
Our "place" is unique in that my husband and I speak French, so we welcome French speakers! There are not too many French speakers in this "neck of the woods"!
Interaction with Guests
We enjoy interacting with our guests, but we are sensitive to their different personalities and we try not to be too talkative!
We like that our neighborhood is kind of out in the country, but just a block away, one can take a walk in a calm residential neighborhood on a less busy road than where our house is located.
We expect our guests to entertain themselves and take care of the premises.Try to be quiet after 10 PM, although they can go and come as they please.
The house was set in a nice, quiet country location, but only a few minutes away from Hershey. The bed was very soft and comfortable. The house was clean and our room was nice. We will definitely stay again!
Debra's location was perfect. A close drive to Hershey. The room and house itself was comfortable and welcoming, as were both Debra and her husband Paul. She provided towels, linen and toiletries, and we were even lucky enough to enjoy delicious pancakes (in addition to coffee) on 2 of the mornings we were there! Thanks again for everything, Debra.
Great stay in Hersey. Good location and place to stay! Debra and her husband were very nice people and would recommend this and them to others !
Debra kept in touch online and met me at the door when I pulled into the driveway. She showed me to my room and explained the few ins and outs of the house and bath. The room was clean, comfortable, and quiet. The residential neighborhood was pleasant, and the short drive out from the Hershey Convention Center was quite lovely along a park and bike trail.
Debra and Paul are absolutely wonderful folks and staying in their home could not be more enjoyable.
My friend and I arrived at Deb's place late at night and Deb was waiting for us. She then showed us the room and explained the house rules. The room was very cozy and nice. In the morning, Deb prepared coffee and crackers which was very nice of her. The house is close to the Hershey Park. Overall, I loved staying at Deb's place!
My boyfriend and I had a fabulous time staying at the Haken Haven. It is such a beautiful home and Debra is so lovely. The bed is super squishy, it felt like I was being hugged by the mattress :) House is well located, easy drive to both Lancaster and Hersheypark. Would definitely come back!

About the Host, Debra
My husband and I have enjoyed having many different people stay with us over the 40 years of our marriage. For 25 years we lived and worked in Africa and our lives have been enriched by many different people from all over the world. We love learning about other cultures and hearing the stories of other peoples' lives.
One of our favorite countries is Switzerland where we lived for 18 months to learn French. Some of our favorite movies are "The Terminal", "Salt", "Argo", "Slumdog Millionaire, and "Les Miz". We enjoy different types of music and food...and playing with our grandchildren!
We love to laugh and try to see the bright side of every situation!
