We would love to share our spare bedroom with guests from all over the world! It's a 10' by 13' room, just steps away from a bathroom with tub and shower. The room has some closet and drawer space and internet access. Our kitchen and dining room are open and cheery. We also have a three season room off the side of the house which is a lovely space to relax and read. We have a fireplace in the living room that we can light for your winter pleasure! (We burn REAL wood!) Central AC keeps the house cool in the summer.
While here you can expect peace and quiet and beautiful sunsets out the front window of our living room. We offer coffee and tea in the morning.
Our neighborhood is a mix of farm fields and wooded lots. The Hershey Medical Center is 2 and a half miles away. Hershey town, with the attractions of the amusement park, gardens, outlet mall, the Giant Center, and many restaurants is just 3 miles away. To the west, on the way to Harrisburg, Indian Echo Caverns is a great place for family fun. Just 10 miles from Hershey there is the interesting capital city of Harrisburg including spots such as "City Island" in the middle of the Susquehanna River. To the east, at about 30 minutes drive are the Renaissance Fair, Lancaster attractions with the Sight and Sound theater and the lovely Amish community.
The Capital Area Transit bus makes many stops in Hershey. The nearest train stations are in Harrisburg or Elizabethtown. The Harrisburg International airport is 10 miles from our house.
Our "place" is unique in that my husband and I speak French, so we welcome French speakers! There are not too many French speakers in this "neck of the woods"!
Interaction with Guests
We enjoy interacting with our guests, but we are sensitive to their different personalities and we try not to be too talkative!
We like that our neighborhood is kind of out in the country, but just a block away, one can take a walk in a calm residential neighborhood on a less busy road than where our house is located.
We expect our guests to entertain themselves and take care of the premises.Try to be quiet after 10 PM, although they can go and come as they please.
I came to Hershey for a wedding, having waited until the last minute to make accommodations. With all hotels in the area booked solid, I chanced upon Debra's. To my relief, the Hakens welcomed me with open arms, and my pleasant stay with them turned out to be the highlight of the trip. I am confident you will not find the same hospitality, good cheer, fascinating conversations, and comfort in any of Hershey's commercial establishments. Do not think twice about a stay with the Hakens!
Debra's Haken Haven is only 5-10 minutes off the highway via some pleasantly rolling hills and feels like you are in the quiet countryside, yet less than 10 minutes from Hershey Park, restaurants and other conveniences. I arrived late and there were arrangements for me to get in quietly. The house and porch are recognizable from the outside; readily findable via my Garmin GPS. EXTREMELY comfortable bed and room, I cannot stress that enough! Ample room for parking a pickup truck even. Lovely area. A sitting room then bathroom right beside the guest room. A guest account on a PC in the room, WIFI also available with a welcome fact sheet. I was in and out seeing family and napping without fuss; but enjoyed a few pleasant conversations over tea with my hosts, who have traveled to some interesting places and were truly friendly. Excellent and clean amenities; great temperature and water pressure; those, a comfy bed and pillows and WIFI are my top priorities. Also used the printer to print tickets for a nearby event. I had bought myself some snacks and something for a meal and had ample space to store them in the kitchen; plus I could make ready use of the kitchen table and sink. I stayed there for a couple nights, getting in late and leaving early - hopefully quietly - I was recuperating from surgery and so my sleeping hours were pretty messed up. I was very comfortable though and sincerely recommend this warm, personal atmosphere over that of a hotel!
Very friendly host. The bed is so comfortable that I don't not want to get up in the morning. Definitely will come back in summer.
Deb and Peter were great hosts. I really appreciated their flexibility with my check-out time which allowed me to comfortably get work done before my business meetings. Despite the rural feel, the location is only a short drive to Hershey Medical Center. The space was comfortable and cozy; I really enjoyed the bed. I only wished I had more time to chat with them and taken advantage of their lovely porch.
Deb and Paul were very kind hosts. They took us in and provided us with all that we needed, and despite arriving much later at night, they still made it a very smooth arrival to our room for us. They have a wonderful and warm house. The porch gets amazingly warm without electric heating at daylight; it simply uses the sunlight and insulates the heat while we sit surrounded by the view of snow. The room and bathroom were very clean and comfortable. It was a pleasant week, and we are very grateful for their hospitality.
This was my second airbnb experience and it was just as good as my first! Debra made staying with her very easy and accommodated our late arrival. Room was very comfortable with small, but appreciated, touches. Also enjoyed chatting with her and her husband in the morning. Would recommend to anyone.
Immaculate and lovely house, easy to find, beautifully decorated for the season, and quiet. I was passing through on a long-distance drive, and Deb accommodated me at short notice and made me welcome. Wireless was fast. I had to leave early in the morning, so didn't get a chance to talk much to Deb and her husband, but they were very kind.

My husband and I have enjoyed having many different people stay with us over the 40 years of our marriage. For 25 years we lived and worked in Africa and our lives have been enriched by many different people from all over the world. We love learning about other cultures and hearing the stories of other peoples' lives.
One of our favorite countries is Switzerland where we lived for 18 months to learn French. Some of our favorite movies are "The Terminal", "Salt", "Argo", "Slumdog Millionaire, and "Les Miz". We enjoy different types of music and food...and playing with our grandchildren!
We love to laugh and try to see the bright side of every situation!
