The Space

Cozy, quaint loft/studio apartment located in Carnelian Bay, about five miles north of Tahoe City and west of Kings Beach, or about 20 minutes from Squaw Valley and Alpine, and Northstar. The studio has two futon-style twin beds and a slightly larger bed not quite full size for any combination of 1-4 guests. Perfect for a family. The apartment features a small balcony with a lovely view of the lake to enjoy a glass of wine, or to barbecue. The apartment also has a kitchenette, with sink, microwave, small refrigerator, toaster, and full kitchenware. Bathroom and shower also include lovely tree filled views.

The apartment has cable TV, but if that's not your thing, it is filled wall to wall with books on every subject, as well as a sturdy desk to pen your deepest thoughts. Perfect retreat for bibliophiles and aspiring novelists.

No lake access at the apartment, but about five houses down there is a homeowner's association pier accessible with a key. There is also a bbq and large beach to enjoy.

If the ten minute drive to Tahoe City or Kings Beach seems overwhelming, Carnelian Bay has a few restaurants, including Gar Woods, where you can eat on their beautiful deck overlooking the lake, and a delightful mini-golf course that the kids won't forget.

Guest Access

Guests will have access to a lakefront lot with pier, beaches, and BBQ (about five houses away). Main house and pier are off-limits.

Interaction with Guests

I am usually living at the main house, and always available by phone.

  • We had a wonderful stay at Greg's studio. The studio was exactly as described and shown in the photos -- lots of charms, very clean, had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. We were looking for a relaxing vacation with more quietness than activities, and the studio and its location was perfect for that. However, Kings Beach and Tahoe City are both a short drive away and have a lot of activities to offer such as bike rentals and all kinds of water sports (for the summer). For those who plan to use the grill, it's an electric one -- we liked it for the hassle-free and easy-to-clean aspects of it.

Greg was a great host -- very responsive and his communications were clear and helpful. We would definitely love to come back again!

  • The pictures don't do the "studio chalet" justice - its beautifully crafted and is bigger than the garage it sits above. The entry alcove is big enough to leave skiis or a bike. The upstairs unit has 3 built-in single beds, a small food prep area (micro but no stove), and a gazillion books. Its on the lake side of the road, the small rear deck views the lake thru the trees. Gregory was very attentive, thru text and email. Its near Carnelian Bay. We had fun!

  • Greg is an awesome host during our stay. He's friendly and able to assist us most of the time. We love the apartment and it is definitely enough for 3. If there is a chance in the near future, I would love to stay there again! Cheers.

  • My daughters and I had great time during our stay at this little chalet in North Lake. Beautiful little cabin, very comfortable with high ceilings and a very convenient location. Only down side is that it's rather close to the highway and it can get noisy.

  • Charming is exactly the right word. A beautifully designed studio with a cabin feel, filled to the brim with books. Yeah, the bed is a little snug, but it's also very comfortable. Fantastic location right on the lake, with pine as the dominated scent. We're already planning a trip back. Also, Greg was a very responsive and helpful host, from restaurant recommendations to emergency key retrievals.

  • We loved this little place.

  • This place is really lovely with lots of character. From the apartment, you can see the lake glistening through the pine trees. The apartment was very clean (the no shoes policy definitely helps) and pretty much has everything you need (except for a hairdryer but we brought our own anyway). We didn’t have a problem with the size of the beds but I can see how it could be uncomfortable for taller people. Greg is very responsive and friendly. We’d definitely go back!

  • Greg had a beautiful place! The kitchen was well stocked with nearly everything you might need. The chalet is fairly small but in a cozy way, and the shelves were stocked with a great collection of books. There's even a beauty and the beast type rolling ladder to get to the top shelf. The balcony is perfect for two people and overlooks the water and some trees.

The driveway is right next to the highway so make sure to look both ways before entering or exiting.

Definitely book a weekend here. You won't regret it.

  • Beautiful space and an excellent person to work with. Greg was great host, and I hope to visit again.

  • Me fiancee and I stayed at Greg's studio chalet this past weekend and it was great! It's everything you expect from the pictures and descriptions.

We spent a lot of time in the chalet just relaxing and reading... it was quite comfortable in there! It was also close to everything (restaurants, grocery store, the lake, etc).

Other reviews mentioned that the bed is small and they're right, but it wasn't too bad for us since it was snowing out and we like to cuddle up anyway.

Greg is very communicative and made sure we had everything we needed to have a great trip... and we did! I highly recommend this place!
