About this listing
The Cottage is a small building, behind the main house, with a queen bed, full bath and kitchenette, which includes a small fridge and a microwave.
NOTE: the cottage is hard to keep warm in extremely cold weather, which, fortunately, is not common here in the south. There are two efficient space heaters out there, but if it concerns you, see if the Bluesroom is available.
You will experience the charm of the Old South at The Farmhouse Inn, located in
Memphs, TN….Home of the Blues, and the former home of Elvis Presley… Graceland
My home is in an older neighborhood of Memphis, on a residential, mid-city, semi-busy street, with ample parking and is within walking distance of a library, a bus stop, the Greenline biking/walking trail, varied restaurants, and a shopping center. It is about 8 miles from downtown Memphis.
All 4 spaces at the Farmhouse are private, all have wifi access.
The property includes:
THE GRACELAND COTTAGE- a separate building behind the main house, which provides complete privacy and includes a queen bed, full private bath, kitchenette, and wifi connection.
first floor rooms…..
THE WEST MEMPHIS
queen bed, shared bath.
THE SUN STUDIO
two twins one full, and shared bath.
THE BLUES ROOM
A sunny space on the second floor, the Blues Room has two twins, a futon, and a deck in the treetops, shared bath.
You will find the accommodations at The Farmhouse will fit just about anyone's needs and budget.
You will feel like you are in the country when you enjoy the back garden, the front porch or the upper deck. When I am able, I love to visit with guests, with coffee in the morning and/or a cocktail in the evening.
My house is located two blocks from a bus stop that goes straight to Downtown Memphis. Also, a library, a shopping center, a post office. and various restaurants are within walking distance
Note...I normally rate all my guests with a perfect score and a very short, but positive comment unless they are really awful... I've had maybe 2 of those in over 4 years, so I'm very fortunate to host great folks.
My prices are low, my home is spotless, though old and worn, and I do everything I can to make everything right. If you are the type to criticize someone's home because of things they can't change, like location, please make another choice. I am a semi-retiree trying to make a living by providing a gracious and comfortable place for my guests to rest and refresh. I have lived in this neighborhood my whole life, peacefully and happily, so, please, don't create issues where there are none.. It's rude.
One more thing.. if you support the current president, you probably won't be comfortable in my home because the situation is very upsetting to me. I encourage you to look for something that suits you better.
Other things to note
During the Winter months, the Cottage can be difficult to keep warm because it is made of concrete. Many others have stayed comfortably, but if you are cold natured, you may want to consider the Blue Room on the second floor.
Also, please do not flush anything down the toilets that doesn't either come from your body or the toilet paper (URL HIDDEN) house has old plumbing. That's why public restrooms have those signs everywhere.
Also...LADIES.. PLEASE DONT REMOVE YOUR MAKEUP WITH MY TOWELS.. IT IMMEDIATELY TURNS THEM INTO RAGS.. IT DOESNT COME OUT.. THANK YOU
Dear Farmhouse Hostel Guests:
Help us run The Farmhouse Hostel as smoothly as possible
by pitching in with other guests and, please ….
*Ask other guests, who share the bathroom, if they need to use it before you
*Close the bathroom door when you are in the bathroom, and leave it open
when you finish...
*Rinse the toothpaste out of the sink after brushing your teeth…
*Hang your wet towel on a hook and not on wooden furniture...
*Park only on the concrete, never the grass, and don't block the driveway...
*Place cigarette butts in the garbage…
*Put all your trash in a trashcan…
*Only smoke outside.
*Let me know about friends visiting you at The Farmhouse.
I never thought I'd have to say this, but Hostel guests must be appropriately
dressed in public areas, including going in and out of the bathroom.
Thanks so much for your help.

I am a welcoming host, but keep in mind....
Be sure this casual environment is your cup of tea. I get plenty of wonderful, laid-back guests who love my home. If you are not laid-back, please look for something more expensive that suits you better...
I am a very liberal, open minded person, but conservatives may be put off by the environment in my home. It is my home, so be sure it works for you.. There are lots of options in Memphis to consider.
Also, the Farmhouse does not discriminate against any one except religious fanatics who judge others based on their lifestyle. This is an open and affirming home.
Having said that... I'm not inclined to host young children..... the keepsakes displayed around my house are just too tempting for them, and nerve wracking for me. ... sorry.
Many hosts charge a cleaning fee, but I do not, because I expect guests to clean up after themselves. Remember, I am someone like your mother, or your grandmother, and I imagine you would do the same for them? : )
Guests are allowed to have coffee and to use the frig, the microwave and the toaster in the downstairs kitchen, but no cooking on the stove, or in the second floor kitchen. I decided it was too risky when folks aren't familiar with my appliances.. Please check with me first before using my washer and dryer.
Please.. If your arrival time changes significantly from what you originally told me, please let me know, or you might not be able to get in. I try to be here or make arrangements otherwise, but you must let me know.
CHECK IN IS AFTER 3:00 PM...CHECK OUT IS 12:00 NOON.. no exceptions
