The Space

Experience the charm of the Old South at The Farmhouse!

My home is in older neighborhood of Memphis, on a residential, mid-city, semi-busy street, with ample parking and is within walking distance of a library, a bus stop, the Greenline biking/walking trail, varied restaurants, and a shopping center. It is about 8 miles from downtown Memphis.

All 5 spaces at the Farmhouse are private, all have wifi access, and all guests have access to the public areas in the main house, which include kitchen, tv and dining (website hidden) should be done in the main kitchen downstairs.

The property includes:

THE FARMHOUSE COTTAGE- a separate building behind the main house, which provides complete privacy and includes a standard bed, full private bath, kitchenette,  and wifi connection.

FIRST FLOOR:
THE FARMHOUSE WEST TWIN with 2 single beds and shared bath.

THE FARMHOUSE SUN ROOM TWIN- a room with 3 twin beds, and shared bath.

SECOND FLOOR: includes a deck in the treetops, full bath, full kitchen, washer/dryer, and wifi connection.

THE FARMHOUSE BLUE ROOM is a sunny room on the west side of the second floor with a queen bed.

THE ARTISAN ROOM is a large room with two twin beds, and not much sunlight

The second floor is an apartment which can be rented as a whole @ $70/night, or by private room for $40/night.

Other Things to Note

During the Winter months, the Cottage can be difficult to keep warm because it is made of concrete. Many others have stayed comfortably, but if you are cold natured, you may want to consider the Blue Room on the second floor.

Also, please do not flush anything down the toilets that doesn't either come from your body or the toilet paper roll...My house has old plumbing. That's why public restrooms have those signs everywhere.

  • What can I say about Patty? What a welcoming, generous, genuine, kind soul! My girlfriend and I stayed in the cottage out back, which was cozy and clean but luckily Patty opens her whole home to her guests as well! On top of the cottage we had access to a huge kitchen, living room, porch and deck. Patty shared her food with us, shared stories and even showed us around. If you are someone who likes solitude then you can enjoy all parts of the house and cottage on your own. If you happen to want to get to know a lot about Memphis and want an instant super friend, Patty will show you the way! Lovely home, amazing host, cannot recommend this place enough.

  • I stayed over in this place during the 4th of July weekend. It was my first visit to Memphis, and thanks to this place it was a very pleasant experience. Although this is a farmhouse, it has all what you need for a short to mid-term stay including wifi, refrigerator, and TV. The place is located in mid-town Memphis, so most of the sight-seeing locations are accessible at a short driving distance including Graceland and the Pink palace.

I also had the pleasure to meet Patty and chat with her briefly. She is a delightful person, communicates the condition of the house clearly, and responds to questions and inquiries in a timely manner.

If you are looking for an experience to stay at a traditional southern farmhouse while being close to the city, this is your place!

  • I would recommend staying at the Farmhouse Cottage if you're looking for a place that is cheap, a quick drive many Memphis attractions and are not looking for a fancy hotel-like experience (think more like a cabin). It worked very well for us just staying over for one night. Patty was pretty quick to respond to any messages and was very helpful once we arrived.
We did during our stay encounter two big roaches. We called Patty kind of late at night asking her if she had anything we cold kill them with, and she was very quick and helpful. We had never been to the South before, and Patty informed us that these are tree roaches and are very common down south. So she lent us her bug zapper for the night and we managed to get one! Other than that our stay was pretty nice.

  • Patty was a warm and receptive host who was prepared for our visit, displayed warm and helpful hospitality and checked in with us several times throughout our stay to assure we had everything we needed. Conveniently located, the Cottage provides accessibility to local restaurants and many mid-town touring sites, as well as the Greenline for morning exercise or walks. Those who want to spend less on lodging and more on the sites and experiences of Memphis will find Patty's hostel a great fit.

  • I stayed in the farmhouse cottage for one night. Patti made my stay very easy - very accommodating, in the fact that she was flexible with time. I never met Patti, however.

While I don't want this review to appear negative, I want those that stay there to know what they re getting.

    1. Bed is lumpy
    2. Air conditioning is a window unit, and has black mold if you look in the vents. I noticed this after I started getting a headache and wasn't feeling well when I woke up.
    3. Shower is literally taped together.
    4. Beware of the spider that lives in the bathroom. He is large and brown and I named him Harold, affectionately.

Overall, it just seemed like the place needs a good cleaning. It is in a central location, and the price is ok, but I'm hoping that my other experiences with air bnb will be better!

  • This review is for the cottage. Patty was very pleasant and easy to communicate. She made me and my friend immediately comfortable and I enjoyed her eclectic sense of style. The sheets were impeccably clean and there were plenty of clean towels.

Sadly, the bed was very lumpy and uncomfortable. The area was supposed to have wifi and there was a code, but there was only 1 bar available if you sat on the edge of the bed by the door, which made it difficult to use the internet without going into the main house. There were multiple small to medium sized bugs on the sink counter as well as some ant-looking bugs that crawled across the bed. The main house kitchen had lots of dirty dishes on the counters and in the sink. Patty is a lovely person and maybe it would have been a smoother stay at another time.

  • The Farmhouse Cottage was cozy and just what we needed for an overnight stay in Memphis. The house was located near some great eateries. Patty was friendly and very accommodating abut a change in our itinerary. Thanks so much!

About
Hello!..I am a life-long Memphian, and mother of a wonderful daughter, and a fabulous son who grew up and left me with an empty nest.. : ( When I learned about Airbnb, I posted my accommodations immediately, and my life has been blooming ever since. PLEASE.... Always message me on the Airbnb site, rather than sending me an email. It's easier to keep up with what's going on when all the correspondence is in one place... thanks. PLEASE.... post a photo of yourself on your profile, rather than children, animals or yourself in costume. I believe it is in the best interest of all of us using Airbnb for our security. It's nice to be able to recognize my houseguests, as I assume they appreciate knowing what I look like.... Thanks As much as I would like to give discounts, I assure you that we are all on a similar budget, and this is how I make my living, a very conservative one, in fact. Please keep that in mind when you are looking for a deal... I believe my rates are very reasonable. In the same vein, my rates are based on the number of people, for the most part, and most rooms accommodate two people. I charge an extra $10 for a third person. I am not set up to provide fresh towels every day, so please bring your own extras, and, please don't wash my laundry. I try to keep the loads as minimal as possible. One more thing... Keep in mind, this is my home, not a hotel, and I work very hard to keep my spaces as comfortable and your stay as uneventful as I am physically and financially able, and my reviews reflect my past successes, which are numerous. However, this more 'casual' environment is not for everyone. What I love most about Airbnb is that all of us are on the same playing field, so to speak... We both get and give reviews.. There is no 'customer is always right' with Airbnb. When a guest makes what I believe are petty, or overly critical remarks, they are forgetting that I have a say as well, and consequently, I would not recommend that guest to a potential host. I am a very generous person, and have never given a negative review to any guest who is a part of the Airbnb community no matter what happened because they are a guest in my home....UNLESS, they unkindly criticize me or my home... I consider it an insult and would never welcome that guest into my home again...just sayin.
